Yes and no. If you own HoT you can get on the new maps at low levels through guild halls or teleport to a friend, but the mobs in the new map are going to roflstomp your low level.

If you have HoT you get a level 80 boost for one character. So that character ill be able to do the HoT maps.

Ok thanks guys !!! – So at least 1 character thats Boosted can do HoT, so can that be a character from the new slot you get as well? You have a choice as far as which one gets boosted and when?

Yes you can select which character you want to boost and when, a brand new character or one that already exists. Here is Anet’s tutorial video on how to use the boost.

Be very careful with taking a freshly Boosted character into Heart of Thorns, unless you already are quite familiar with the game and Profession.

Otherwise, you are likely to be surprised. I would test any and/or all L80 Boosted character(s) with the free trial in The Silverwastes first, before making any permanent decision.

Good luck.

I’d strongly suggest finishing core content first and, as you are newly returned, treating it as a chance to get experience with the mechanisms and gameplay as it exists today.

I used the boost at level 79 for the extra gear, but you can of course do as you please.

I’ve tried running through the first map (Verdant Brink) through the guild hall, just to see how many Hero Points I could pick up. Unfortunately was hard, had I been thief and could stealth, I could have gotten a few more. But I managed about half, forgot exact numbers.

But by then I already knew the map fairly well, and had gliding 5 unlocked, so I could use a few updrafts to access anywhere on the map. If you don’t have those, make a perma stealth thief, or prepare to get 1-2 shot everywhere.

Dulfy has guides for the HP in HoT, which include notes on which are soloable – for the definition of soloable that is “requires no particular skill to acquire”, rather than, “yeah, I can totally solo a champion mob on my <insert class here>, l2pskrub”.

I just went through the first 3 maps with my lvl 32 ele. Ended up being 42 by the end of it. I just did a HP train as a commander. Had plenty of help.
