Holy Trinity and Compromise

1) Look up the definition of “grasping at straws.”
2) Try to learn business administration a little bit better.
GW2’s target audience is gamers, any MMO/PC gamers, stagnation doesn’t necessarily lead to satisfaction.
Moreover, your idea that a game can’t be revitalized and well advertised shows just how little understanding of a business model you actually have. Guild Wars 1, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo and Killzone are all perfect examples of games with developers that push advertising to their target (usually web-based advertisements since they know the majority of their audience also surfs the internet) effectively and make respectable use of changes and expansions. Guild Wars 2 could easily do it – their niche is not “no-trinity,” their niche is that they offer one of the best F2P games on the market.
Games can offer little or major changes and still be advertised and sold to a new market. You’re just…so far off the mark it’s not even a relevant discussion at this point.

What got me here to begin with is no trinity. I’m seriously really really tired of stagnation. If I wanted soft trinity I would be playing F2P (completely F2P, not even B2P) Tera that provides me with constant updates, new dungeons and is soon launching an expansion.
And Guild Wars 2 can’t advertise as the best F2P game on the market, because it’s not even F2P.

They are aiming at a specific subpopulation of what you would call " gamers" and while a game can be revitalized you can’t turn it around 180 and have players swarm in.
You mentioned call of duty – do you know why that game has a cult following? Because it caters to a specific sub-group of FPS players. The twitch reflex players.
If Call of Duty suddenly reinvented itself, went 180 on its core principles and became let’s say Battlefield would that make BF players pick it up? Unlikely. They already have the game they want and caters to them.
What would happen however with the CoD fans? They’d go nuts and abandon the game since it isn’t what they’re looking for anymore.
You mention games that have innovated over the years but their core gameplay is the same. The franchise has remained mostly unchanged.
CoD? What’s CoD these days ? A reskin of last year’s cod with a few tweaks here and there but the CORE gameplay is still there – and it’s still CoD. That’s why people buy it.
GW1’s expansions, WoW’s expansions, The Halo games never really attempted to change or innovate the core aspects of their games – merely to add on new features and improve on it – but the main part of the game – the franchise defining aspects were left mostly untouched.
What you suggest is that a franchise such as GW2 that has put tine and effort into establishing itself would be better off if it gave all that work up and attempted to beat multiple other well established game franchises at their own game.
Plus – you have to factor in that unlike WoW, CoD or Halo – GW2 doesn’t have that sort of scope, cult following or hype around it. It simply isn’t on the same level as these other names in the industry.
Sadly you think you know so much you can’t really accept that you might be wrong.
Also you’re grasping at straws trying to convince yourself this game will be turned into a trinity base game at some point in the future.
Why do we still get threads like this? For years before release this game was advertised as NOT having the Holy Trinity. It wasn’t a surprise. People purchased the game specifically for this reason. Anet had tried something different that they haven’t perfected yet, but they are working on it. If you want the outdated trinity then go play a game that has it. Anet will NEVER completely rework the game to add Tank, Healer, DPS. NEVER. They had an entire blog post explaining why during development.

Good times, good memories
So if everything is a matter of catering to the majority, why are the people who have access to the game metrics making changes? Changes that add up to a fairly clear pattern of intent.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Their making changes to the DPS meta because of a minority of QQers who just refuse to make their own groups because they want to tag along with the zerkers.
That doesn’t equate to them creating some kind of trinity system. There might be a decent amount of players that want some form of trinity, but you better believe if they do change course now, the game will have a mass exodus.

Nice excuse, but not based in reality. 100 million dollar a year enterprises DON’T infuriate the majority of their customers to appease a minority.
So either your presumption of ratios is flatly wrong or there are other compelling factors at work.

Why not let the builds be trinity? Nobody wants trinity! Nobody wants to be waiting in LFG asking for a half spec healer type compromise build any more than they want to be waiting for a full trinity healer. That is not better than the status quo and never will be better than the status quo. If nobody needs a compromise healer, like now, then nobody will ask for one and the role is redundant anyway. You can go into the dungeon as a healer if you like right now. There’s nothing to stop you if you want to play with like minded people.
If a group needs more healing, CC, condition cures, finishers, mobility, etc then they can already change utilities and weapons to do that. Trinity is dead. RIP.
not true i like to wait healer ill play healer ill tank you do not talk for all of us

then why are you in a no trinity game?

The crit damage changes happened for a reason.
So they can possibly push other gear types in the future / perhaps add more vertical progression.
So that the content is harder to navigate and requires more time especially now that a year + after launch people have gotten incredibly effective at it.
This is not the reintroduction of a trinity – just changes that have been made in order to keep people in the game more, and spending more on the game.
The pattern here is obvious – slowly the game is going to change to make it harder for players to farm rewards. Gems to gold is always going to be there and will gradually become more appealing.
The problem is that people will always go for the most efficient build. If the trinity was the most efficient, everyone will go trinity and leave the anti-trinity guys annoyed. And vice versa.
Nobody wants trinity!
Nobody, eh? So why is WoW so insanely popular?
Because it was game-changing when it came out, created a giant following of up to 11million players, and can still maintain a little more than half of that because they have loyal players.
Have you spoken to someone who has quit WoW, then come back to it after yet another expansion? Odds are they aren’t currently playing anymore. The ones still playing it have been playing it for a long time and will likely remain. They are the die-hards. You also have the reluctant to quit players: they have a sub they continue to pay, log into WoW to stand around for a little bit, then log out and play something else. They will defend WoW to the bitter end, but don’t personally enjoy playing it anymore, they just have the nostalgia and the time-investment to continue giving Blizzard $$.
No one can argue that WoW didn’t get the formula right when they released the game. But no one can argue that others have tried that formula and failed simply because it was a “WoW clone”. GW2 is trying something different and people like it.
There are a TON of other games with the trinity system. I recommend you go play those rather than suggest GW2 jumps onto the bandwagon that has seen so many games fail.
It’s like you guys don’t want to play WoW anymore, but want to play a game that has all of WoW’s features with different lore. No. That has been attempted too many times, and it has failed. Time for something different.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
I don’t understand either why people come to GW2 of all games to say that they want trinity. It’s one of the few games that clearly stated from the very beginning that it won’t have the trinity. That’s one of the major reasons I bought it. I don’t want trinity, whenever I feel like having some of that I play some Tera. I come back pretty quickly though, because I like to be self-sufficient.
If the one-sidedness of the dominance of the DPS builds is the problem, then the solution isn’t going back to the healer-tank-dps trinity, but making cc, support and conditions viable instead. We should aim at making this game one where you can run a great variety of setups.
As for LFG getting emptier, I did a dungeon last Saturday, and my party was full within the minute.
As for LFG getting emptier, I did a dungeon last Saturday, and my party was full within the minute.
That is the primary reason why LFG looks so empty… ironically because it’s actually quite active and parties are filling up as quickly as they are formed.
There is no trinity in gw2 because the vast majority of the playerbase knew what they were buying and didn’t/don’t want one.
Even if all players were ok with introducing the trinity into GW2, and we’ll make it easy on ANet and say they could just add two classes to fill the healer and tank role (we have the DPS), like Monk and Knight, whatever. It still wouldn’t happen.
Why? Because the game is not balanced around the trinity. ANet would have to redo/rebalance all the mobs, all the dungeons, all the personal stories. Not. Gonna. Happen.
There will never be trinity in Gw2 so No.
Well if everyone is so stuck on no Trinity in gw2 and claims all these other mmos suit the playstyle, name one with dedicated healers that has decent dressup and repeatable gameplay draw like gw2 and I will go play that.
This expresses my opinion the best:

Other then that i have a problem with the distribution of tools to fit one of the roles between the classes.
Warrior is just the best at most things.
Giving each class something they a superior at comapared to other classes would give way more variety in a party.
Necro: fear, weakness
Warrior: might (for party)
Guardian: protection (for party)
Thief: Fury (for party)
and so on.
those are just examples
