Gah, 50 ectos as well as 40 laurels?
Sure, no grind here.

Well, 40 laurels by just playing the game, and 50 ectos from TP or salvaging rares you get by playing the game.

The only grind I see is the one you put on yourself. You can get your ecto from pent/shelt runs and Plinx over and over again. Ill get mine from fractals, the rehauled AC, and another dungeon or two.

Your way is grind. My way is fun and lends progress to multiple goals. Perception vs. reality is a kitten.

The whole ascended set has to last people until at least Jan 2014, thanks to the overreaction of some fraction of the player base. That the ascended items are a lot grindier is basically their fault. Had they not complained so much, we could have had much quicker releases of gear at lower costs, and a completely new tier by summer. ANet did the best they could while staying true to their “no new gear tier in 2013” statement. :/

So whats the reason for these being harder to get? While other accesories go for only 30 laurels… I dont care i have made a better build now so those new items can go die.

I can’t even take this screenshot at face value, as it is completely illogical to make the accessories so much more expensive. I guess maybe this means they are giving out the laurels for achievement points soon? A month of dailies + 50 ectos PER accessory is a bit ridiculous.

75 laurels? Thats not even possible. Why do I think this is fake?

I’ve never had 50 ectos at one time. Running a full stable of alts puts paid to that, and my rare/exotic drop rate isn’t what I’d call generous. I’m more likely to get to 40 laurels before I get 50 ectos.
This new gearing policy of theirs that relies on grind is positively hateful.
I want max gear for peanuts, just the way it was in GW1.
All these eejits insisting that max stats should require grind because that’s how every other MMO does it have spoiled this game.

Ah well, yet another reason to continue not to buy gems.
As long as they continue with this despicable behaviour, I’ll continue to play without giving them a cent of money.
They can pay for me to play.

Keep in mind that the laurels+ecto method seems to be the alternte way of acquiring these items. You can also obtain them by cashing in 12 Guild Commendations + 5g.

Yea this makes ZERO sense considering how “easy” the commendations are to acquire. One week with a large-ish guild + 5g will net you an ascended earring vs. over a month + 50 ectos…uhhh I know which route I’m going.

On top of that, 40 laurels is just silly when compared to the AMULET which is 30. The amulet has a much higher stat increase…makes zero sense.

That said, it’s quickly getting to the point where I don’t foresee myself being able to gear an alt with ascended gear in the near future(most likely not for many months ahead). Oh well, guess I need to pick a class and just stick with it through all the nerfs.

This is obviously a faked SS. You can’t even HAVE 75 laurels yet, not for quite a while actually. Plus Ecto’s aren’t a currency, I highly doubt they would make them into one as they are already used for too many things as it is.

So im also forced to join a guild or farm for over a month? =/ I have no time to be in a guild neither!

You realize that this pic must have been taken on a test server, therefore they might as well have a million laurels over there already? Beside, ectos are a currency right now, they are an important part in just about any “luxury” item recipe.

Lol what. 250 ectos to get +5 infusion on a back piece, 50 ectos AND 40 laurels just to GET an ascended accessory (and you need two for your gear), and God knows what the hell it’ll cost to get infused versions of either the amulet or the accessories. Honestly, what do they want from us? Do they have no sense for the market? Do they just want ectos to keep rising in price until only the top 1% of players can afford anything that uses ectos?

I don’t get it, I just don’t get it. It’s like they have a plan of making the game a nightmare for anyone who wants maximum stats on their bloody equipment. It’s like I’m not allowed to enjoy maximizing multiple characters in this game. I should just delete all of my alts because God only knows it takes 3 months to get 115 laurels, the needed amount to gear up any specific character in accessories and an amulet.

Bah this is so frustrating.

Look, this is a level 80 mesmer called “Mesmer C” who is still on the first intro mission and likely being played on a test server… of course he can have 75 laurels.

Sorry guys, but this is outrageous. There’s no way I’m forking over 50 ectos in addition to a month’s worth laurels for ONE accessory.

If you look in the screenshot and see where the SS was saved, this user was using the Stage client which is essentially the in-house test instance of GW2.

Those extra laurels are probably for testing purposes.

Thinking about it some more, clearly ascended gear is intended to satisfy the “gear progression” faction. But at the same time, ArenaNet doesn’t want to start a treadmill. The solution that they’ve hit on is to slowly roll out new accessories and make obtaining them time gated.

This hurts alts because you can only gear up one toon at a time. But if they did it any other way, the people with one toon would just create throwaway alts for laurels, would quickly obtain the gear for their main, and would be qqing about no end game.

My solution is that I am only getting ascended items on 1 character and that’s the only one I will use in WvW (the only place it really matters).

I agree. The price of ascended gear makes having more than 1 toon impractical.

Yep. It’s going to be absolutely INSANE to gear an alt(just one alt) if they don’t give us some form of recompense for our achievements we already have(which they discussed possibly doing). If not, you’re looking at an already hefty wait for most people(guild missions + dailies + monthlies = a good chunk of time just for one character)

I wonder… If we can get ascended accessories by way of Laurels, what are the ascended items that we get with Guild Commendations from the new guild missions? Are those also accessories? If so, that makes acquiring them much easier if you play with your guild (only 12 commendations per ascended item). It’s also possible, however, that the guild mission accessories are different slots… But somehow I don’t think so.

I think the laurels + ectos might be an alternative to the guild missions for those who don’t want to do them. You know, “play how you want to and be rewarded for it” and all that.

BiS gear is optional, making it just as much an end game progression as skins and titles. If you want the privilege of equipping the best possible gear, you have to put your mind to it, not expect it to be handed to you after saving up for half a week.

There needs to be a way for the really dedicated players can differentiate themselves from those without the time or conviction grind out this slightly better gear set. People have said in the past that MMO players need to be weened off of wanting a gear treadmill a.k.a. becoming more and more powerful, but the same can be said for the permanent gear cap faction with demanding easy to reach power plateaus.

@Chuo: Yeah, I hate that kind of response; “Oh it’s easy! Just play the same thing over and over again for weeks on end and you’ll get it eventually! That’s not boring at all!”.

BiS gear is never optional. All of the benefits from the ascended items so far make a noticeable difference in end-game content like WvW, and visibly improve your contributions. It may not be as huge as the jump from rares to exotics, but it is noticeable with a keen eye. This will only continue to be more relevant the more items that get released. If you want to compete with the best, you need to gear like the rest.

Character a): do p1+p2 = ~130 tokens(the little bags give extra)
Character b): do p1+p2 = ~130 tokens
Total = ~260 tokens/30 per rare metal headpiece(for ori chance) = ~8 headpieces which usually equals 5-8 ectos.

So no, not 30 runs, more like 7-10. Even at the max, that’s a little more than a week to get the ectos required for an ascended earring…BFD bro, BFD.

WTF anet is being totally crazy, i will never put 50 ectos to win +10 on some stats.you need 5 ectos to craft a exotic jewel,and 50 +1 months farming laurels for ascended ?

And we didnt get any new skins like on armor and weapon.

Lazy way to get people farming for months with absolutly NO new content,where we were suposed to get " like a free extension"…What a joke !

I wouldn’t have a problem with this if anet didn’t lie and had ascended gear available through fractals/wvw/laurels/guild from the start instead it seems they are focusing on rings/back through fractals accessories/amulet through laurels and i’m guessing armor/weapons will be wvw….

So… 4 path runs gets you access to potentially 8 ectos, per your above example. Since you need 50 ectos per accessory, that would mean you would need to do that set of 4 path runs at least 7 times.

That would be 4 paths done 7 times or…. 28 runs through the same dungeon.

I think 25-30 times through the same dungeon was actually right on. Different paths is still the same dungeon.

Oh don’t flip over that stone, I will have to read through 3 pages of people explaining the origin of the game name and how it is not about guilds or being in guilds, but the historical lore of the in-game-world and a reference to a historical event in that in-game-world.

All i have to say is that i hope that screen shot is some sort of mistake.

I cannot and will not invest that much time to ever even getting close to 1 accesory, not talking about a full set of them.

It’s really unfair that by such little things it divides the community in 2 -

1. People that invest WAY too much time in the game. (I’m sorry, but any way you cut it,15/20 hours a week + is a kitten-ton).
Being way more viable in WvWvW and PvE content, making future divide between these 2 even worse if this trend continues.

2. Casual players that play the game less then 2 hours a day or at weekends.

Group number 2 gets the short stick as they rapidly fall out of the arms race…

Well as far as I see it, you can also get the accessories with the new guild missions stuff, and you only need 12 tokens and 5 gold per piece, which is a lot less than 50 ectos. I only hope that all the stat variation will be available to get through both methods. I don’t think I’ll put 40 laurels and 50 ectos just for a piece, imo it’s too much for a price.
I think that it’s just another way to get them, unpractical, but still a different way. Just look how you can get a ring with just 10 fractal dailies while it costs 25 laurels from the vendor.

First they came for our time, now they have come for the money. If they implement this we will see their revenue base drop quite a bit.

40 laurels (over a month to get 40) + 50 ecto is rather stupid. WTF are they thinking? Over a month to get a ascended accessory and you have to spend ectos which people are most likely saving for upgrading ascended backpiece/mystic forge unique weapons/legendarys. Yeah, this game isn’t grindy at all.

I played GW1 for seven years, and if they had ever made better items, I’d have gotten them. I want skill to be the only determinant in my battles with other people, so I will always maintain BiS gear so that I don’t have to worry about other people having advantages over me when it’s so close that it matters. I’m definitely not alone in that view either.

Yay for Cleric Ascended Gear. This patch will hopefully introduce Cleric + other combinations to rings/amulets too. I’d be very happy about that.

Ubernay for insane ecto cost. Greatly pisses me off.

I wish they would just come out and have the accended items available through a multiplicity of way to obtain, not just rings here, accessories there. Make these items available through Karma and crafting as well. I do not see why it should be that difficult to do that.
As others have stated, you are basically being left with playing one character and leaving alts left behind because of the time commitment to just gear one character out. Is doing dailies difficult, no, but it is just being gated behind laurels and time. Give us the option to buy these items with Karma and be able to craft them already please.

If it’s test server, then this addition would also be accompanied by the change to the daily/monthly system. We don’t really have a good context what timeframe 40L is attainable in. I would guess that the secondary coin are not Ecto’s – it would make more sense to use Gold if that were the case.

Ectos are a secondary gold sink like everything in this game, you see, if you farm a lot, you are prolly going to make a lot of rares as well, which would become a lot of gold, so instead of converting them to gold you make them ectos and items for ur personal use!
However rares wouldn’t be that expensive if we didnt need ectos for everything so this is kind of a circle…

I need all my ectos for my Legendary. Anything else requiring ectos can go die in a fire until it’s done.
