Q:

What is it? Why should I get it?

A friend of mine has one and I see them go in and out of their Home Instance everyday with it and then manually wp to the city to let me in. Why can’t I go in with him the first time? Thank you.

It’s an item that just lets you go directly to your home instance; that’s all it does. You can’t travel to it with him because that’s just not how it works.

It’s a gem store item that costs 900 gems. It’s in your inventory and ports you to your racial home instance from non instanced PvE when you click on it and back to where you were you click on it again. Since it only ports you, it does not port party members.

Should you get it? It’s overpriced in my opinion unless you have a well stocked home instance.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Should you get it? Depends on what you plan to use it for, and how much you value convenience. I use mine for cleaning my bags after a champ run and farming my nodes but if I used it on my Sylvari it would be less useful because not all home instances have Vendors. I wouldn’t buy it just to farm my home instance and I don’t know that I would pay the current price, I got mine when it was on sale, so it comes down to personal choice.

You can get “better” functionality by going to the Heart of the Mists (the PvP lobby):

  • Basic vendor
  • Account bank
  • Port to LA
  • Option to return to your original location

Compare that to the portal stone:

  • Enter your home instance
  • Some homes include vendors, some do not.
  • No access to bank, unless you leave instance (in which case, no option to return to previous location).

Your mileage might vary.
