Why is it that it’s okay to be bombarded with whispers from hopscotch merchants in-game…yet to merely mention hopscotch, on the forums, and the thread get auto-locked almost immediately?
Why isn’t the same level of policing, that we have here, being applied to the game?
If it were the same then hopscotch merchants would become a thing of the past.

It would be nice if we could collectively assist Anet in combatting the hopscotch merchants but it is as if they’re sticking their heads in the sand and pretending as if hopscotch messages don’t exist.

And no matter how many times the merchant messages are blocked & reported, that still doesn’t solve the immediate issue of the constant bombardment.

I know they can’t force people to use secure passwords and keep their login information secure but there should be some type of lockout in place if the game recognizes you logging in from a different location.

Rift for example will let you log in from a new computer but you’re required to unlock access to your bank, guild bank, messaging, etc. before you can do anything. This would be a good solution to help protect accounts that are not as secure as they should be.

You dont see hopscotch offers on the forums. Closing a thread about hopscotch has lighter consequences than shutting down entire accounts because someone reported that it was offered in game. The forums are open, easy to see, the proof of the action is right here, for everybody to see, and it doesnt take that much of an effort to shut the thread down with a simple note, no further hassle. Whereas getting a report about hopscotch requires them to dive into masses of text, gather evidence, initiate the lock-down, then deal with the actual player behind the account who was probably hacked.

Much more complicated process with much more serious repercussions.

There already is…via email – I’ve used it several times when logging in whilst travelling.

Hmm, that’s true. So I guess it’s people with lax security with their email being the bigger issue and not using the two factor authentication (which is awesome to have).

I’m pretty sure that accounts that turned into hopscotch are from played that tried to buy from hopscotch merchants, and for those, I have no sympathy at all and should be banned without a second thought.

Discussions of gold selling, in-game abuse, hacking, exploiting, and the like are not allowed on the forums. If you feel a player is abusive in-game, please report them using the in-game ticketing system so our Customer Support team can properly investigate the issue and take any appropriate action.
