Megaservers have destroyed much of the RP community in GW2. But in addition to that, there’s the added bonus that other games have real housing systems, something that ANet discussed but never implemented.

Housing would help the RP community in GW2. It has done so in other games where players can create and control specific environments for themselves and other players. But more to the point, these housing systems become huge cash sinks. I know that in another game i play where housing has been added since August, that I have spent over $300 on housing related stuff in that game since August.

If there had been housing here, if GW2, that money would have been spent here. Instead, with megaservers destroying any sense of community, and with no real housing whatsoever to consider, I’ve moved on to another game except for one day a week I still play GW2, and that may be coming to a close soon as well.

If only a thousand players like myself would spend that much money on housing, it would gross $300,000. And in a game like this, which at one point had a large population, that number could have easily been 100,000, meaning $30,000,000 in lost revenue.

How much ANet has lost by failing to provide the very systems that players want (like housing) is truly mind boggling. Does ANet want my money? Show me! Bring me an innovative and robust housing system that allows players to create environments for themselves and their friends. Or, I can spend my dollars elsewhere. It’s your choice, ANet, but if I’d been given the chance, that money would have been spent here first.

While I don’t know how many players the game has / how many copies have been sold, about 3.5 million copies were sold in the first year. That was two years ago, so let’s be super generous and say the number is 7 million now.

Do you think one out of seventy players are likely to spend money on housing doodads at the same rate that you do? If we -don’t- assume that the game went full-steam ahead after launch year, is that number still realistic?

If it seems like these numbers seem a bit too arbitrary or incomplete to firmly say how much money would or would not have been made, that’s because they are arbitrary and incomplete. Food for thought, as long as we’re saying things like “That’s $30,000,000 in lost revenue because ArenaNet isn’t implementing <niche feature>.”

Guild Halls, if and when they arrive, are supposed to be customizable, so you may get your ‘housing’, just in a different form.

Feel free to spend as much cash as you desire. I’m sure ArenaNet will be most appreciative.

Good luck.

When a company doesn’t care about RolePlay in their game, adding such a feature would’ve been “lame” from their part. So even though you’re right, and even though other games added housing and got a huge cash grab from all the RPlayers (and not) in their game, it’s not going to work in GW2.. Why? You say it yourself on the first post of this thread. Why would they bother now? The damage has already been done, and i doubt the two once grand RP communities (TC and PS) will return to their former glory if Anet decides to throw a bauble at their feet and try to lure them back in.

The reasons we love the new downgra…..er….feature patch :

They won’t add “housing”. Guild Halls will hopefully be for same thing as in GW, Maps for Guild Battle PvP

Well they said they wanted to make an MMO… inho Housing belongs in a good MMO

Boxie Togg (main)… probably Tyrias only Asuran Mesmer that ultimately fails at jumping puzzles
Stinky McLane… the only Necro known to have a toothpaste fetish
Lefty (give me a second) Fiddlesticks… one Engineer, two clumbsy hands…

I disagree completely with your statement about community distruction, but I’d love instanced housing, rather than just a “home” instance with the only personalisation being adding nodes to it
