Hey everyone. I returned to GW2 after a 3 year break, a new PC and new motivation. Now basically I only have 5 character slots, and 4 were always taken with 2 just being sort of “try outs” for 2 professions where I didn’t put much thought into their character/race/details etc. So… wait for it… not knowing the anniversary is based on character age not account I deleted 2 of them so I could make way for the right prof/race combo I wanted.

Now I am having a blast, and I promised myself to try not take grinding seriously so that if I am still having fun in April I will by HoT on the next sale. However, I am pretty sure there’s no character restore function and even if there were I don’t have any room lol. I’ve used my 40s scrolls and got 3 classes to 45-65 over the last few days.

Will this oversight bite me in the end? I mean atm the only really ice bonus was 4 sets of dye awards. The rest like the backpack are only 1 per account regardless of how many characters you have. I still have 2 characters eligible, but I have a feeling I may regret that decision if I am still playing in years to come.

If you still have two characters you don’t really need to worry. You will still get the “main” birthday bonus on the launch date with them. The rest are mostly cosmetic goodies and boosters that may or may not be useful to you. Just don’t delete those last two!

Yeah, I was somewhat thinking that, and as it is I have way too many boosters and randoms stuff taking up precious bank space. I’ll miss out on 2 expensive/rare dyes each year but I don’t need them all and they are BoA. With 8 already I picked abyss and charred, saving the others until I can make my mind up. I love the ruby red and that really expensive bright purple but they aren’t a part of the year dye award just yet.

If you buy an extra character slot you can ask very nicely to have lost characters restored and it may be attempted, but at the discretion of anet staff. good luck.

I don’t think you need to worry.

Of course we don’t know what will be in the 5th birthday gift (and future ones after that) but based on the past 4 years you won’t really miss out on anything by not having those extra 2 characters.

For the previous birthdays it would have meant missing out on birthday boosters, XP scrolls and dye packs. The birthday booster is the same as the celebration booster from the login rewards but with a longer duration (and like all boosters it’s nice to have but not essential). The dye packs are nice but the worst that will come of not having as many is you’ll need to buy the dyes with gold.

And the XP scroll is basically just a bundle of Tomes of Knowledge which are easy to get. I actually prefer Tomes because you can pick exactly how many levels you want to gain. I tend to make sure I have at least 80 Tomes, just in case I decide I want a level 80 at short notice, and then I just use the birthday scrolls for key runners, story characters or other randoms.

Other people getting the dyes already reduces the prices of the most expensive of those dyes by a significant amount.

So… that stinks. I had assumed that we would at some point get access to the additional backpack skins, either through a fifth year birthday present or some other avenue.

I now regret having chosen the Grove Hydria. I picked it because at the time it meshed well with my character’s appearance, but I should’ve chosen the Rata Sum Apparatus. Soon after selecting it I changed the look of that character and no longer use the Hydria.

I understand that it’s my mistake for not doing my due diligence and researching the skins more thoroughly, but being that it was a birthday present I had naively assumed we would eventually be able to get all five skins unlocked.

I really hope we get another chance at earning those extra skins.

Nobody knows the answer at this time, but it’s very likely you will get to choose the other options in the coming 4 birthdays.

So here’s the thing. You still get all the birthdays, it’s just that two of them are now pushed back. But it isn’t like they won’t happen.

I agree that none of the anniversary stuff is so awesome that it’s worth a freakout. It’s all neat but unnecessary stuff.

Obviously this is unconfirmed at the moment but a lot of people are assuming the backpack will be a reoccurring gift, so we’ll be able to choose 1 per year.

I can absolutely guarantee that if it’s not part of the 5th birthday there’s going to be a massive out-cry on the forum and people begging/demanding that they add another way to get it. It’d be pretty harsh to make it a 1-time thing where no one can ever get all of the skins.

Funny story—-well I guess funny—but I was undecided between the norn backpack which was auto awesome for any large character, the rata sum one which was the “safest” and the grove.

In the end the grove unique animation and glow made me select it. Then I saw it sort of hang out oddly when you’re unsheathed and I instantly regreted my decision wishing I had picked the Rata one. Oh well.

I picked charred and abyss black and saved the others for the future. I was surprised that some were still 600g+ each.
