There are blue symbols on the map. Go there and do what it ask (mostly you need to fight.) you will gain a skill point

WSR→Piken→Deso→Piken→FSP→Deso

well you can do those missions that give skill points. if you go to the map and see a light blue arrow, that is a skill point you can go and unlock.

D/D Elementalist takes no skill but is good at everything in the game.
Mesmer is unfun to play against and does everything better than thieves.
Hoping those two get gutted with nerfs

There are unfilled in blue chevrons on the map. You go there and do what it requires and it gives you a skill point, and the chevron fills in completely.

This show you what they look like and gives you places where they are.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

It’s funny how people complains about NPE dumbed down the game and yadayada. Now the game tells you at level 13 that you can now do Skill point challanges and still there are posts like this?

At level 20 you get your first chunk of 8 skillpoints, and you can also get skillpoints from Scroll of knowledge wich are found in some special loot chests.
Since they made the NPE it has been harder to get enough SP to play around with skills as a Newbie… But “soon” they will change the whole skillpoint and trait system so don’t worry to much about that in the future. Just my advice, don’t go buy Traits later, go find them in the world instead.

As Edgar stated, they are locked behind level 20 currently. Hopefully that gets rectified after they dismantle the current New Player Experience after the huge negative feedback they got for it.

I think you are mistaken. Skill Challenges unlock (on new accounts, and only the first character; subsequent characters are able to do Skill Challenges at any level) at L13.

This is correct. The first char on an account must unlock skill points at level 13. After that it’s unlocked on the account and a level 2 can do skill points, if they can reach them.

I just remember trying to help a new player a month or so ago with this and I was dumbfounded they locked skill points away at all. Let alone until after level 10. The newbie experience is already painfully dull. You start with your autoattack and your heal. That’s it. At least when the game launched you could see the other skills and unlock them as you use your weapon. Level unlocks feel bad.
