Maybe they assumed that the Tournament would be of interest to Chinese speakers, regardless of whether it was EU or NA. It’s not an illogical assumption.

And also because more people on the planet speak Chinese than those that speak English, German, dutch, polish, norwegian, italian, portuguese, romanian, swedish, maltese, hungarian, finish, spanish and 15 more languages put together.

Russians don’t play the game? Or Spanish talking people? Those two are both European and with more countries involved than German or French.

French is a very commonly spoken language in the world. Many African countries’ main language is French, or minor adaptations of it, not to mention, of course, Canada. As for German, I believe there are regulations that require translations into the German language for certain games to be released there – someone will correct me if I’m wrong no doubt.

I personally think the game should be translated to Portuguese too, though, but I’m taking a stab and speculating southern american countries to be populous in the game.

It’s a language for the stream. They want to drum up interest in China ahead of the launch there. What’s the problem?

More people speak french in europe than chinese, this is a european tournament, not an asian one etc etc.

And yet it will still be of interest to those outside of Europe.

I’m surprised that there wasn’t a Spanish stream since that is one of the game’s official languages.

But with China going live in two weeks and PvP/WvW style play is popular there, I understand the need to provide a Chinese stream as a marketing tool. Still disappointed over the lack of a Spanish stream. But then again they only rated a single server.

If I was wearing my tinfoil hat I’d say it was part of Anets marketing NGE strategy to grab as much as the asian market as they can.

But yeah, kitten us right?

Most people, if not everyone, in Europe speaks a bit of English, German, or French. So, they have Europe covered. They are also providing it in Chinese for extra coverage.

Oh, serves me right for not following the link. I was under the assumption french got canned in favour of chinese, considering I was looking forward to watching it in a language I understand better than any I was a little annoyed.

So what part of more people speaking and understanding that language in europe is hard to understand, sorry?

The part that seems to ignore the fact that the “European” part of the Tournament applies to participants, not spectators.

Yes, that is the surprising point. All the languages used for the streams are official game languages. There is an English, French and German version, there will be a Chinese version soon – well, actually there is one already if we consider betas. There is no Russian version (or, “dutch, polish, norwegian, italian, portuguese, romanian, swedish, maltese, hungarian, finish”), and so the only language missing is the abovementioned Spanish.

Actions, not words.
