I have always avoided using the MF because I was too lazy for the learning curve of the different “recipes” and whatsoever. But recently i’ve heard you can throw in your exotics in there and get something back. How exactly does this work? I was always just salvaging, selling, or god forbid.. destroying (if non-salvageable soul bound) any exotic.

Could anyone please clarify to a noob like me?
Thanks a lot fellas

It works like this:

Zomorros offers a few useful but expensive recipes that have a guaranteed outcome.
You can make all sorts of nice things by following the recipes in the link posted above.

For for most part the mystic forge is gold/item sink meant to remove excess stuff from the game, as the main recipe is this:
Throw in 4 items for a chance to get 1 better item or even a super rare one.
Since only few people happen to hit the jack pot, many many other people keep throwing stuff into the forge hoping for their one lucky day thus kindly removing lots of excess loot items from the game economy.

The main function is a lottery with super rare but super valuable top prizes and thousands of no-win tickets to drain the economy so it won’t overflow at one point from dropped loot.

In other words, there’s no logical reason to use it?

It does have some uses in upgrading materials – mats, dyes, minis etc. Plus people use the specific recipes to make skins to use or sell on the tp

I throw rare weapons in and salvage rare armours. In the last year that’s netted me 2 precursors. But, that’s me playing the lottery in a way that I feel I don;t lose out.

There’s plenty of uses for the MF that do not involve gambling:

You can make this gear (nice skins on many of them!):

These salvage kits are nice for scrapping rare gear:

Combine low-end mats into higher-end mats:

other than recipes (essentially the same as crafting discoveries), you put four matching quality and type items (eg yellow armour, green weapons) in the slots. pray. then flush.

Other than using it for specific purposes like mat upgrade or making weapons only available, it’s a gamble.
I generally throw in my green for rares and salvage it for the sigil/ rune and throw those rare for a chance of exotic as I view selling those green and yellow chump changes (yes I can guess you can still make alot of money from selling it due to how many greens you get but I had made some money from selling my exotic runes and sigils).

one thing is for sure, don’t expect something better then what you used.
i have tried the MF enough times to know the loss outweighs the gain…..

its more entertaining to use the forge than to simply destroy items you cant sell/salvage. that is all. other than the rare recipes.
