Don’t feed the trolls? If it’s honest: WoW-Fans go to WoW. You’d know that GW2 would be different for… 5 years?

Not sure why people think the players of this game care.

I wish that latter part were true, but it’s like every single person complaining right now completely ignored the ANet blog, beta reviewers, the wiki, GW2 Guru, and the main website, and then bought the game because it’s an MMO and in their minds MMO = WoW clone.

It’s like: WoW is bad, you can’t aim at enemies like in Battlefield… Wait… WoW isn’t a shooter? Hm. Still bad…

(Hope WoW-Player don’t think I’m “hating” WoW or anything, just absolutely not my game)

OMG BF3 is the worst shooter ever. I bought it thinking it was going to be like Quake Live, because it’s a shooter, and it’s nothing like Quake Live!

Seriously, people. Get out of this “every MMO is the same game” mentality.

I don’t expect the OP will be around to answer this but if you are I have a question for you.

You say that you pay $15 a month to WoW for consistent updates. If that is so why do you pay extra for expansions? I guess some updates aren’t so free.
Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm and your coming Mists of Panda exp all cost you extra.

You can buy a whole game with updates almost nightly and play GW2 for $60. That is exactly 4 months of your $15/mo. Are your updates coming out quicker than every 4 months ?

So what exactly does the $15/mo you pay them give you?
-They charge you already for the game.
-They charge you for each expansion.

Only thing they don’t charge you for is the bug fixes which seemed to take forever to fix when I played that game. Is that what they charge you $15/mo for?

I see GW2 rolling out updates and new builds here just about every night or two.

It’s even not “their” fault. There where too many MMOs being nearly exactly like WoW (or pretty much the same mechanics and systems).

And don’t forget they basicly have a cash shop. $25 for mounts and what is it $10 for fluff pets. They may have added more, I haven’t cared to look.

You mean to tell me that it cost them $25 each to have that sparkle pony in the game? But those folks over there keep dishing out money to them like its totally justified.

So pay to buy the game, then pay to play the game, and pay to play new content, and pay to get in game items…

The only thing wrong with this game is the amount of trolls and gold sellers.
I don’t even know why there is gold sellers, no one should even need a pl in this game and crafting is easy enough.

ok two things (an I actually read your post)

1. Wow is not an “MMO” to be held up against. It is an insult to the name MMO. As such it is irrelevant to this discussion.
2. GW2 has not failed, it is a mix of oldschool MMO an todays…..shiny trough. which is all gamers seem to want anymore.

Alot of GW2 I see taken from AC an Daoc an I love it. the wow parts (community, an demands for shinys) I pretty much ignore. But the game has most definitely not failed.

It has been out less than 3 weeks. The fact you say you have gone back to wow, I don’t believe for a second or els you would not have posted here.
MMO’s (real) MMO’s were never about following a shiny path an being held by the hand, they were about going out an “doing something” That is the crossover Anet have tried to do between today’s yellow brick road of hand held follow the leader an true MMO freedom of play. I think they have done a good job all things considered.

I could sit here and pick away at every one of your points, and while I may not agree with all of them, I think many of them are valid.

But it is a new game. Something as large as an MMO is going to have issues. The later levels were never beta tested. Like it or not, this is essentially still one giant beta test, but most large-scale games have lots of issues upon release. And you will never see a “finished” game in an MMO anyway. It is always changing, always updating, always having new content brought in. So to see things the way they currently are and already have a definitive opinion about the game is a little short-sighted. They already talked about how in the future, they want to go back through the game and completely change quests so that when you make a new character, it will be a completely different experience going through the same areas.

GW2 may not be better than WoW on release (I personally think it is, but I never liked WoW), but I am willing to bet that in a year, it definitely will be. WoW has had 5+ years to build a world full of content based on years of player feed-back. Guild Wars 2 has been out for 3 weeks. Give it time.

It’s obviously the OP is a troll, but be realistic here, why do you think people come from WOW to play another MMO time and time again, for me it’s to play the next generation of MMORPG, the game that will be as good and fun to play as WOW was in the early years, and this is not it.

This is not a revolutionary MMORPG, it feels like a dumbed down alternative for people who are not hard-core and want to devote time to playing a game.

To say removing the trinity and adding dodge is revolutionary and innovative is absurd, this game doesn’t push the boundaries nowhere near that extent. There lies no depth to this game, no innovation, just a dumbed down action RPG, which is fun for what it is and for a single playthrough. But Revolutionary? No.

Completing the map, farm dungeons (30~ times for one piece) for gear that isn’t as good as your crafted. These are not solutions to progression at 80. These are achievements you can get when you beat the game. Just like on any console game, the only thing to do is to go back and try to get trophies or achievements to have something that has absolutely no benefit other than aesthetic and bragging rights…I guess if you’re the person that likes to get all the trophies than this game has tons of progression at 80

I don’t get why people just don’t admit that there literally is no progression after 80, you just do WvWvW, farm explorable mode on dungeons or try to get the legendary (which takes 1.5 million karma, correct?)

It isn’t a game designed around endless progression. That’s a core design vision of the game. People who want/need endless progression in a game will disagree with that vision, but it is the vision of this game.
