How I understand a patch date
Topic like this wont help.
Maybe make topics like : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Timezone/first#post1306087
Yeah, this invites an unhealthy discussion as we have already seen from the other topic in this forum about, nearly, the exact same thing.
Hence, Yonarq. Thanks for proving my point ;D
If the patch comes out on the 28th….then it comes out on the 28th.
ArenaNet is on the West Coast in Washinton, so there’s 24 hours in which they can release the patch on the 28th and still have it be released on the 28th.
If they don’t release the patch until 12:01am on the 29th…..THEN you MAY have something to discuss. Until then…it’s still the 28th where they are.
You say not say “you are pampered babies” and “we demand satisfaction”…..but how can someone reading your post NOT think that?
If you’re NOT located in Washington and they decide to release the patch at 11:59pm on the 28th in THEIR time zone….then it’s likely that YOU won’t see the patch on the 28th….but they still released it on the 28th.
Just be patient…..my god!!!

Was the wrong thread, didnt even read this. Sorry omg
Currently I like the way it is handled. We are told the patch day is the 28th of Jan 2013, so I know that by the end of the day (PST) to expect a patch. They have not missed this mark, historically. I look forward to playing this content tomorrow (Jan 29th), or tonight if it is pushed around the time of the daily reset.
I am not speaking specifically about this thread, as it seems reasonable, but due to other threads and the general tone about patch dates, if I was in a position to do so, I would simply state that the patch will come before the end of January, and shoot for the same target date of Jan 28th.
28th PST is 28th PST, thats just how the world turns… litteraly.
Having a set patching time would be the most “professional” and “clean” solution, but I don’t have a problem with the way things work right now.
Just be patient…..my god!!!
Again, I don’t see how people get so worked up about this. It’s not like my suggestion somehow attacked you personally or even offended you in any way.
The point is, does the date mean the patch will hit when the clock strikes Monday, or just before the clock ticks over to Tuesday. I’m not attempting to get anyone heated up on this, and it’s odd that it somehow succeeds in doing so.
Basically, at the end of the day a lot of people on both sides get angry, therefor I thought there might be a better way to deal with this entire issue. And please leave divine beings out of this.

Since when is 28th a time that can have PST added ??
You managed to confuse me.
I look at it like it’s the cable company. They tell you they will send a guy out between 9-5 on the 28th so you know what time frame to expect. They don’t tell me a timezone because I can correctly assume they will use the time zone the cable company is in unless they said differently.
So Arenanet saying they will patch on the 28th means to me sometime between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm PST.

What he means by that is that between the hours of 12:00am PST, Jan 28th, 2013 and 11:59pm PST, Jan 28th, 2013, the patch will be released…..it was simplified to Jan 28th PST in the hopes that people would understand the times that make up the date of Jan 28th, 2013.
Obviously, not everyone understands how times / dates are configured so more explanation was necessary.

The other side to a professional timeline includes setting proper expectations. They want to leave a window for themselves, which I support.
Just look at all the people complaining about the patch already and they haven’t even broken the expectations they set.. imagine now if they stated noon PST Jan 28th and then didn’t get to release the content until an hour later due to CDN issues or any number of last minute gotchas.

Uh what? How can you not get that? PST is a timezone, if its the 28th in that timezone its 28th PST (Pacific Standard Time) meaning sometime within those 24 hours.
So the patch will be out on the 28th PST means the patch will be out before midnight PST. Big difference from say 28th GMT or CET, which ends 7-9 hours earlier.

Exactly, which is why I used quotation marks. Any professional software developer knows that things are always late. Especially complicated things, like a patch of GW2.

A date is not a time.
28th for me is between 00:00 and 23:59 and i live in CET.
They only say 28th on there own website no mention of PST anywhere.
So when i look at that site i can think that they are smart people and adjust the displayed date to my own timezone wich they can read from my browser.
So 28th january11:59PM PST whould display 29th of january on my browser.
Am i off that much ??
Hi everyone,
Please refer to the following thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/January-28th-Update-Anticipation-Thread for the discussion of the patch anticipation.
Thanks for your understanding.
