Hello world!

I have a question on how many levels it takes to really get the big picture of a profession. I currently have a ranger in the works but I am pretty sure he isn’t going to be my main but can’t figure out which other class I should play. I was just hoping for an idea of what levels I should play other professions to so I can figu out which class is best for me. Thank you very much!

You get your last utility slot ability at level 30.

You get your first utility slot at 5, then next at 10, then 20, last one at 30.

I believe level 10 gives your first inkling, level 20 gives you almost the full sense, and many players believe you need to hit 30 before you can say you’ve got the full picture.

I might experiment and get a few to 10, then go back and revisit the ones that seem to fit you best/feel good. And go from there.

Also, different weapons can make a huge difference in playstyle. So experiment with those also in the 5-10 level range.

And welcome to GW2 and good luck!

Hey there Rolt. I’m a firm believer that you can’t get the just of any profession before 80. If you just want to try out professions, sPvP is the easiest way to get a full overall view without having to level that character to 80.

I’d have to agree with Viking Jorun on this one. Level 80. While obtaining all the skills at lv30 is a good start, the professions just do not feel complete until you have all the traits. A lot of the skills just do not shine until paired properly with traits, and the same with various play styles.

Absolutely correct that level 80 with a build that works for you and is properly synergistic with traits is the only “true” picture.

For someone starting out, trying out different professions to get a “feel”, by 30, they should know whether or not it’s a profession they want to stick with and would be looking forward to accumulating more traits to have it work the way they want.

Using the insta 80 SPvP or WvW, if you are the kind of person that can get your head quickly around the ins and outs of the profession, instead of learn-as-you-grow, is good advice. Just be advised that your experience may not be entirely positive, nor representative of what the profession can do with proper skill over time.

Use whatever method gives you the best data you can use.

Again, good luck!

Imo, somehwere between 30-50, so around ~40s. The reason being is that you get your elites, and you get 30 trait points to try out.

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.
