I’m curious actually what the economic ramifications are. Let’s use Sigil of Force due to it’s popularity. What would you be willing to pay for it? 10g? 50g? 100g? 1,000g?

It’s permanent so you’ll never buy it again. This means that market will flood but at the same time the value of the item is absolute and can be decided by the sellers not really by the buyers. What do you think would happen to the market if sigils were permanent and essentially “collectable”? Would the price of less renown sigils go up? Or down?

My first thought would be to pay for it 100x over in order to make “legendary” sigils/runes. Then they can be issued through the interface that also does the celestial/hellfire armors.

Wow, that’s a lot! I think it is a lot anyway; so if it’s 2,000g for just one sigil the cost to just take the sigil is 3x the full cost of a set of ascended armor. That’s crazy.

probably 10g. I dont really change sigils. Yeah, im a n00b.

But if there is a permanent sigil, i don’t think it would affect the market too much tbh. The price would be so high that it would not make economic sense to buy a perm version over consumables that are in abundance. You will be paying a high premium for convenience. So for the vast majority of players, they would still pick regular ones over perm assuming the supply is low enough due to cost.

Permanent sigils make no sense. What does make sense, however, would be the permanent ability to remove upgrades from a piece of armor or a weapon — which should be a feature for Legendaries IMO.

I was thinking about it differently than the OP and meant to elaborate but got sidetracked and forgot.

My assumption was that it would be a legendary sigil that goes into a specific slot (not applied to armor itself) and that you could consume sigils to permanently unlock them as an option on the legendary sigil.

To be honest, I’d just rather have Anet move the sigils/runes to be used in their own slots rather than applied directly to weapons/armor.

I don’t think it’s worth tweaking the system to make it better. I’d rather see ANet spend time overhauling the system. There’s no particular reason why we can’t make arbitrary stat combinations and easily swap sigils and runes into ascended gear, other than that’s an artifact of the system we had at launch.

I’d rather see a 0 disappear from the end of that ridiculous 250 gem price of the extractors. Anet I would have bought SO many of them it’s not funny if they were 25 gems…you could be making a killing off me and my armor swapping but I am not buying them at 250 gems -.-

The last I heard, they were working on separating runes from armor. Or maybe I was confusing it with AR.

Before we worry about unlimited use Sigils/Runes, I’d prefer that we get all of them craftable and salvageable first.

Once they can realistically be created/destroyed, then there should be a Mystic Forge recipe that uses a full stack of one to unlock an unlimited use version.

This way the glut of pointless Sigils/Runes can be converted into materials and then into useful Sigils/Runes and then those can be converted into unlocks.

By doing it this way, you can maintain the value of the Sigils/Runes during the transition period AND once the unlocks are in place.

I’d heard that whisper about AR before.
Hadn’t heard anything about the runes, so I think we’re stuck with the system we have now, unless ANet’s being really good to us. (For character convenience, they have that as a habit, so my fingers are crossed for something awesome.)

I’d pay coin for this, but not for perm sigils. Upgrade extractors mean those are permanent anyway.

That being said, the existence of this item would crash the sigil market if obtaining it was even reasonably easy, so might not be that interested in having it made.

Thats what I keep on suggesting basically already since a longer time.

Implementation of Ascended Upgrades as accountbound “Unlocks”

These permanent sigils should cost NOTHING and should be ulocking permanent upgrade effects, because only when these thigns are the creme dela creme of all upgrades as accountbound versions which can’t be traded between playrs, – only then will they be highly valuable rewards for players, only then will they feel like PROGRESSION to the player and only then will the market on the inferior exotic sigils that are one time uses, if not perfectly demontaged from the equipment with a 100% chance removal item, only then will these items not crash on the market in their values and become basically worthless over time so more people get what they want and need unlocked permanently for their account.

Fact is simply. Jeweler 500 needs something that can be used for 500er recipes.
Whats best and easier implemented and done, than upgrade recipes for Upgrades, that should be the speciality of Jewelers.
They are the masters of Upgrades and should be the crafting job, that should be the ones, that are responsible for creating the ultimate Upgrades for our equipment and should get the best out of our exotic stuff and get it higher onto their next level – Ascended/Legendary.

Thats how I do see that and we wait already way too long for Jeweler/Chef 500 to get done and become implemented to the game to complete the Ascended Crafting System.

And i also believe, that ascended/Legendary Upgrades as accountbound unlock system are are neccessarity for a “Build Template System” to ever find the day of light for GW2 .
Gearign up our chararacters on high end level must become simpler, because only if Anet simplifies the system, it will be then easy enough for the build Template System to handle everything, while staying overviewable enough for the player and also easy enough for the player to handle per se the Build Template Sysstem itself.

Only if the Build Template System isn’t too overcomplicated to program and to create will it be an enrichment for the whole game as a massive quality of life improvement and for that to be – are simply accountbound automatic mechanisms the best and most simplest way that can be used to build up the Build Template System around that fact.

I won’t see a Build Template System ever to work in GW2 functionally good, if all the smaller mechanics and systems in it are soulbonded and different for every single character of the accoutn of the player.
Thats just too overcomplicated for a Build Template System to handle, when you have to remember, that we can have like 60+ characters or so per account max if not more …

No, the solution is accountbound ascended/legendary upgrades – the only way that a Build Template System – should it ever come – will work in the future.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Perhaps they will go this route. After all the introduction of bloodstone and the bloodstone capacitor and various other elements like this give a new, versatile easily accessible way to change the stats on ascended equipment and get “everyone” up to speed so to speak.

The only real contention I can see is that you can’t mix and match things anymore (albeit they changed the rune system so you wouldn’t be tempted to anyway) so combinations like Trapper and Nightmare would fizzle into the darkness. The “old” sigil system would likely be required for that to work since running a massive dropdown set and then requiring a reset over and over will just produce the same complaints and feel cumbersome.

Even then I completely agree with you. The current system is just not valuable. Runes just need to be done up so that they really are a “one-stop bargain”. Ironically there are too many of them.

One sigil that gets “refunded” when you replace it?

or a sigil that you can right click and change to any like a legendary?

If the former then I wouldn’t even want it at all. If the latter, probably ~2000g.

I hate to break it to you, but the upgrade market’s already crashed, the vast majority of sigils and runes are only worth vendor price as it is.
