How Personal story could effect?
You’re right, PS is nothing more than a way to take an interesting individual and boil it down to a second fiddle backup for Trahearne.
The problem is, the kind of diversity you’re looking for would take some kind of system to take into account how often you’re doing those kind of things. Something we don’t have, like, I dunno, dialogue options.
Maybe we can have like three different kinds and have cosmetic effects for whichever one you take to the most?
and if you can be light or dark how about grey middle of the line.

I think an idea like this is definitely on the right track, the “Personal Story” has no affect on anything, besides the fact that most of them are so boring that it ruins a character.
Something that adds depth to a character whether its simply cosmetic or not is a plus hands down. unfortunately I don’t think ANET will do anything about it, But hey I hope they prove me wrong!
The problem is, for every choice, the consequence has to be coded into future story steps and things accounted for.
Player A may get Character B killed but not Character C.
Player B may not get any of them killed.
Player C may get Character C killed but not Character B.
Player D may get all characters killed.
If they had plans for Character C and Character B to be involved in a later chapter, they have to code 4 separate stories. One for both B and C being there, one for just B being there, one for just C being there, and one for neither B nor C being there. And that’s assuming that’s the only instance of past decisions having an effect.
That’s a lot of work for an MMO. Because they have to remember all of those possible combinations when designing future content for the game.
RPG’s only have to worry about the current game. Most will canonize one path when they do a sequel or the choices won’t really affect too many aspects of the game. Mass Effect is the only series I can think of where this does not seem to occur.
But MMO’s add more to the game more often than single player RPG’s. Think of how convoluted WoW’s story would be if there were choices given how long it’s been around.
This OP’s description sounds a lot like Fable or Infamous. It’s a cool idea, but not for GW2 please. I like choosing the appearance of my characters, regardless of in-game story choices.
Added suggestion: an optional aura depending on personality choices for being charming (heart – purple or pink), honorable (crown – blue or yellow), or a brute (fist – red or black). The aura options and colors could be controlled through the hero panel.
