Q:
How about Russian language
not enough russians are playing this game to invest money into translation.
To be fair, can you really expect a very large regional player base to exist in a game that does not support their native language? Most of them can’t read English.
Anet are concerned that Russia would invade the Shiverpeaks and hold a ‘referendum’ for it to secede
“And we are only available in Europe, North America and Australia. We haven’t launched in China, Korea, Russia, Southeast Asia, Brazil – many of the world’s biggest PC gaming hotbeds are places that the game is not yet even available.
Source. So it looks like Russia may get a localization after China and Korea are rolled out.

There are several sites which tell us that a Russian fanbase exists. There’s a fair amount of Russian guilds at Piken Square, and I see clearly Russian names every now and then. I even remember a party where all players turned out to be Russians:)
That said, despite being a Russian player, I wouldn’t have used a Russian server even if it had been launched because Russian gaming communities tend to be toxic. As for the Russian language, Russian voice-overs are generally awful, and I would’ve used the original sound and UI anyway since English is a de facto international language and it naturally receives most attention.

Most games I’ve played with a russian player base has been toxic and bad. I don’t know why that is.

I have no doubt that there is a significant russian player-base in GW2.
But given how accustomed russians are to playing on international servers the question is “how many more players could ANet get from translating the game into russian?”.
I would wager that most russian players who want to play Guild Wars 2 already do. Russia also has a strong F2P market so it’s questionable if a B2P game like GW2 could gain much traction there.
But this is something for analysts to sort out, people who have actual numbers.
