Q:
How can I be invisible?
There is an option to appear offline, which does what it says on the tin – it makes you show up in friends lists, guild list etc. as if you’re not online. But I don’t think it’s perfect. If I remember correctly your location will still change as you move between maps so I think if someone was really determined they could still find you.
If it’s one particular person you’re having trouble with, and especially if they’re a friend and think it’s funny I recommend speaking to them about it. Explain that you find it irritating and it puts you off logging into the game. Chances are he genuinely doesn’t realise there’s a problem and thinks you find it as amusing as he does and will stop if he knows he’s annoying you.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Go to your friends list in game and click the green square at the top left corner.
Also to see if your friend is really online but just invisible, go to your friends list and hover over his name and if it says he’s in a zone and not “unknown” he’s just invisible. You can manually invite him by /invite his name in chat or mail him that you know he’s online to foil his plan.
Do be aware, that thanks to a QoL update, if you log out as invisible, you will next log in as invisible, as well.
Good luck.
I don’t know if it’s still true or not but guildies used to be able to see your dot on the map even when you’re invisible.
ANet may give it to you.

Thanks, people! It seems like I can’t escape my friendly stalker, hehe. I would like to reiterate that I don’t have any personal problem with this guy, he’s my best friend! I just want to come back at him for this annoying habit of his ???? But, please, if someone gets any new info, please let me know ????
If he’s your best friend, can’t you just ask him not to do it?
If you’ve friended them and they’ve friended you, they can see through the invisible status. Blocking them will prevent that, as well as hiding your guild location.

blocking does not prevent people from seeing your location if they are in the same guild. I just tested it with a friend. you still both see the yellow dot on the map.
saying that, they can’t see where you are from the friends list or anything. but the yellow dots are a big give away, especially if you have a small guild.

If you just turn on invisible, it’ll stay. You’ll need to leave and come back or waypoint for it to update.

tried that. we were both in Rata Sum. I went invisible, blocked him and went into the home instance, waited a while and loaded back into Rata Sum. I even fully reloaded the game (still set to invisible and still had my friend blocked) my friend still saw my yellow dot.

Sounds like your friend knows when you are likely to get online and also has nothing better to do than look at some game panel waiting for your status to change. The only thing you could do about this is get online before he does.
