As a roleplayer, Character Personality was something I loved initially and really was looking forward to seeing how it affected my game. Unfortunately, I didn’t find it had much purpose in the game and NPCs reacted pretty much the same to me no matter what my personality was. Since the April Features Pack, it seems to have been just removed, and I’m very disappointed in this, but I kind of understand why ArenaNet might have dropped it.

I’m posting this thread in hopes of encouraging discussion on how ArenaNet might re-incorporate Character Personality into the game and make it more meaningful as a mechanic. I just want to give a disclaimer that this is purely hypothetical brainstorming, and is not affiliated with ArenaNet or it’s staff. This is just fans talking about ways we might make the game we love even better if we had the chance.

So I was thinking what about having NPC factions that reacted better to certain personalities, thereby offering things like slightly better prices on items or more services; it wouldn’t be overly difficult to balance that if they had identical positive services and prices for each faction affected this way, and just had those factions in different areas from each other.

What do you guys think? How could Character Personality as a game mechanic be made meaningful?

Live each moment as if it were being used in an epic montage.

yeah, i miss my bird
character development is non-existent in this game
aside from ‘look what i grinded out’
this game is in sore need of quests, and the season 2 story journal is a step in the right direction.. but there should be missions choosable by the player, y’know open world stuff, aside from the pop-up events and dungeons.. there should be a panel in your character user interface that allows you to read about and understand why the task is important.. and you should recieve character points for completing them.. the players develop their characters simply by choosing to do these missions or not and it offers more depth, options, and a sense of accomplishment.. furthermore, it would not only influence customers to appreciate their game characters more, but also arena net’s Living Story..

I always had a rose, a pretty little rose. and since my character’s name is Latia Amorosa, I always found it fitting.

My rose is gone. I was so sad.

How could Character Personality as a game mechanic be made meaningful?

I’m afraid only in dialogue interactions with npcs. Like in Queensdale when doing the heart quest with the Ettins. Some of them can be convinced to fight against the Centaurs, some of them react aggressive and attack the player, but there is no feedback whether the personality rating of eg. charisma was high enough or too low or whether it was just a random dice fail/success in the background no matter what personality rating the player has.
