So there’s a theory floating around that we killed zhaitan by hitting him with some sort of poisoned magic. Makes sense given that elder dragons eat magic. But where do we actually get confirmation on this? As far as I can tell the only sources are the few missions dealing with Gorr’s Vacuu-Magic Polarizer. Clearly where the idea springs from, but there’s never any indication of us actually scaling it up for the Glory of Tyria.

Can anybody bring to light more solid evidence that this was, in fact, how the Mega-LIT cannon actually worked? I played through all the order missions and I’d hate to have missed something so big.

SPOILERS

Believe it or not, we were actaully able to defeat Zhaitan because of the efforts of Kudu and the Inquest, not just the good guys. As explained in Crucible of Eternity, the Inquest were experimenting with dragon energies, to the point of creating their own dragon champions, and Zojja was able to use this information to build the MEGA-LIT cannon and various other weaponry seen in the Ruins of Arah story.

We know that it worked because we were able to kill every single thing before that, and the elder dragons aren’t some supernatural entities like the lore suggests, they are just embodiments of magic (for example, Zhaitan is a necromancer, not Undead). Think of them like the greatest of all wizards, being able to consume, control, and leak magic on a level comparable to forces of nature.

Most of this has been explained in dungeons and LS season 1. It is currently unknown why the dragons just went to sleep when the ancient races fought them, but remember they only had access to magic, not technology, unlike the Asura and Charr. Alot changes in thousand of years due to technological advancement.

ArenaNet has confirmed that Zhaitan met the reaper, so to speak.

SPECULATION:

However, it has been speculated by the fan-base that this is a BAD thing, and that we were not supposed to do this and that the ancient races actually could’ve killed the elder dragons but decided to let them live of some reason that we don’t know. In other words, many theories believe we just messed things up.

More to be revealed in the coming LS season.

We don’t build or scale things up, we just test them and let the scientists and technicians deal with all that technomagical mumbojumbo.

If anything we tested in a mission resulted in success and is not revisited later on, we can conclude that it worked and will be used in the future.

Unless it involves Researcher Maeva.
Then “the salinity was not tested!” and hasty retreats are in order.

This isn’t a theory it’s an in game fact found in the Asuran story line. If you choose the right path, you actually get to test a weapon that’s incompatible with dragon magic, invented by Dr. Gor. That’s the special ray that Zojja shoots at it in the last mission. You have to protect her while it charges.

Tech > Magic

Ignoring the fact that the most advanced tech, namely Asura tech, uses magic.

Tech > Magic

Technology is greater then magic only because anyone can use technology but not everyone has the ability to understand and use magic. If magic existed in today’s real world it would follow the same pattern. Everyone can pick up a can opener and open a can of beans but only a few would be able to open that can with magic.

Technology is used as a bridge to place non-magical users on an equal footing. However to state that in GW2 technology is greater then magic might be an erroneous assumption. If it were then we would not have the need to embody our armor and weapons with magic. Plus we had the advantage of numbers using both technology and magic to take out one Elder Dragon.

Killing the undead… Can not happen. Granted, this is a whatever game, so whatever can happen. Seems to be going on quite a bit ^cough cough^ Living Story-1 ^cough cough^.

Magic is only as powerful, as the one who wields it. Technology, anyone can wield and can become even more powerful, than the most advanced magic wielder.

This.

Also I’d like to add… it looks like the elder dragons don’t use tech like they do magic – or to the same extent. I mean, it looks like they get the creatures they corrupt to use some of the things/skills they did in life – like how the norn sniper in the Orr story missions still has access to his ‘skills’ and all the boats of bodies that you have to stop were probably being steered by.. someone? Maybe the old captain? Well Zhaitan knows how boats catapults work at least. So even though the elder dragons can use old tech (catapults) they don’t seem to have caught on to the new snazzy gizmos.

Which makes me wonder… if they’re so clever, why don’t they?

My 18 characters are waiting for outfits from GW1 like Tuxedos! WE GOT DWAYNA! =D
