How did you ding 80?
Crafting. Tomes of knowledge. Swapping in a dungeon. I hate leveling.
Killing undeads.
Yea, my “first” character, soloed a champion ^^
I can’t remember how I got my first 80, probably just a random mob. But it was really early, either still during early access or day of launch and soon after an ArenaNet staff happened to come up to me and congratulated me on getting 80 and asked to pose for a picture. So that was pretty memorable.

I suspect from the name it was Ovada Bey, credited as Quality Assurance for GW2. No idea if they still work at ArenaNet.

This is pretty much what I did on all my 80s. I might have leveled my first one without crafting, but I leveled as quickly as possible.
My most recent 80 was my ranger, a couple months ago. I was working on leveling one evening after work, and I was really close to hitting 80. I was in Frostgorge, in the water outside HotW, when my wife and daughter come home. My daughter comes into the room, checks on what I’m doing, then goes into the next room. At the time, I was doing the DE to protect the quaggan village from the icebrood minions, which always seems to take forever. While I’m trying to finish it off, I hear my daughter asking for help with something. So I go help her in other room, figuring I can leave my character parked in an out of the way spot, with my pet to protect me. Come back 5 minutes later, and the screen is covered with messages and level up rewards. While I was gone, my pet had gotten the last kills necessary to finish the event, and the xp from the event had pushed me over 80. I hit it without even being in the room.
My first char was with a lot of crafting, gathering and just exploring/enjoying the game. I quit relatively quickly after reaching level 80 though. Came back half a year ago or something, leveled up new chars through crafting/events like halloween/tomes.
Leveling is pretty boring. And I especially hate having to re-explore the entire map.
I got to level 80 in 3 weeks I believe and it was just with events.
Any memorable moments of getting that last tiny bit of exp to hit 80?
Of my two mains, my Sylvari dinged while picking blueberries. Quite fitting, since he has the blueberry skin colour.
My other main hit 80 after rezzing someone in WvW. I didn’t even know you get exp for that.
My first 6 80s I had within 2 months with a map completion of 92% for 5 of those about 73 % for the other one, that was over 2 years ago. Got 10 80s now and levelling two more, hitting 80 is only really great because at 80 you can start to give them decent gear.
first few, through normal event chasing and crafting.
last few, through birthday gift, tomes and dungeon swapping.
future few : birthday gift, exp scroll, and tomes ONLY.
.. yeah, i hate leveling too…
Archeage = Farmville with PK
I got to 80 in like 10 minutes. Tomes <3

Wonder how long it would take you to do world completion.
All 11 80s were done in frost sound … jumping off the same snowy mountain into the water and killing a jellyfish … its just my tradition.
“It has to be the same fish or i’ll have to go back up the mountain”
I’ve crafted all of mine except my Thief, which hit 80 in an EotM karma train.
