I must be missing something because I reached level 80 10 days after launch and I have been unable to find a single group for the content in the game aside from CoF, which seems to have died ever since the nerf. Why is this game so unfriendly to grouping for dungeons – before you are even inside of the dungeon! – and how am I supposed to get around all these barriers?

I currently play on a lower population server (Ehmry Bay – I know they all say High aside from a few, but for a long time Ehmry bay had a lower population and I assume it’s still the case compared with the other high population servers despite having grown over time) so I can accept there are less people running around, but this is making it really difficult to group. There is no dungeon finder, so if I want to find a group I can’t simply enter a queue of people with similair goals and enter with them, I have to actively spam chat practically begging people to join me. The dungeon (Twilight Arbor) is in a starting zone, so most people on the map are about 40 levels too low for the content, so I have to look for candidates on other maps. I can recruit anyone inkitten zone, but obviously I’m better off with higher level people. I tried Lion’s Arch and no-one seemed interested. I can’t afford to waypoint all over the map, asking each area if someone wants to join because of the insane waypoint costs (I would easily lose about 20 silver with no guarantee of forming a group) so I am stuck with a useless /lfg tool I still don’t understand.

Why is the hardest part of doing a dungeon finding a group to do it with? I realise I don’t have a guild with active dungeon running members (nor have I come across one). Why is it reasonable that I am expected to spend a good 20 minutes (and silver) scouring maps for players before I even attempt to organise my group inside the dungeon? I’ve also come across a spam filter which blocked me from saying something because I said it twice… 11 minutes before. I’m not even in the dungeon and I can’t proceed. I have no problem joining whatever guild they have out there if it will get me into dungeons, but I can’t seem to find any and the tools the game has given me are simply not working.

What am I doing wrong? Is this situation going to change? I can’t believe the only way to get into a dungeon is to do it with four friends or guildies, did they seriously release content designed to lock out people who want to PuG? I can understand content being difficult for PuGs but I can’t understand why it’s so difficult – with all the people supposedly playing this game – to form a PuG.

People dont wanna do dungeons anymore because of the difficulty, low rewards and high risk.

You could LFG and hope, also depends on your server.
Some servers like Fort Aspenwood, are just plain horrible at dungeoneering.

Some people have been suggesting Anet put a dungeon finder system where you can queue for a dungeon and go off doing other things, but there are people who are against it. Odd huh?

Oh well.

while a team finder would be fantastic, I usually do not have any problems finding a group, just standing in front of the entrance and asking in map chat (or watching map chat). But that may really be different from server to server.

Rizzy: It isn’t odd. A lot of folks blame the dungeon finder for ruining the community in WoW. Not saying it did just saying a lot of folks feel that way. The thing is this….back in the day you actually had to be social, you had to make “online friends”, and then when you wanted to run a dungeon you sent tells out to the folks on your friends list. Now don’t get me wrong you also had people waiting to do the content near the entrance.

One thing that WoW did that I hate was make people want to do speed runs and never talk, strategize, or even think. Back in EQ you had to learn how to pull mobs or you wiped the group, you had to figure out what to do to get past something, WoW introduced speed run, no talking, faceroll dungeons.

Now so many people are accustomed to that they don’t want to do something I found fun, which was dungeons where you took your time and worked through it. I hated WoW’s dungeon finder because you couldn’t even stop to catch your breath or equip an upgrade because the PuG was already down to the next fight.

EDIT: I say people in GW2 don’t want to do it because I see so many complaints like you mention but the thing is the rewards are cosmetic so no one has to do them but people complain like they HAVE to do them because the world will end if they don’t get the “epic”, “legendary” etc etc item

There is a LFG tool, people just don’t understand how to use it.
Hit Y and flag yourself as LFG. However, the flaw is that you can’t see that person level NOR what dungeon/mode he wants to run.

A good way would simply expand it to Aion style. A simple and effective way.
Allow people who wants to LFG post it. And it also allows parties to post that they need more.

Nothing automatic, you still have to talk to each other.

The problem we have, however, is that there are no global chats, so everyone is forced to stick by the instance or Lion’s Arch, making most of the other major cities considerably emptier.

Personaly, I always found groups for what I wanted and love it’s current challenge.
But rewards needs to be tuned up indeed, at least to a way that you want to run all 3 explorer pathes, where harder pathes earn more tokens or money.

@Drintar as a ranger i can safely say that legendary bow is not for me lolol.

But hay if they dont want the dungeon finder, dont use it.

Even when I pug up for story mode Id tell the newbies who dont know the map yet what to expect.

And if Gw2 says its game is what it wants its game play to be like which is noticing your environment and taking advantage of it, you dont need to someone to type down for you “Go leap or whirlwind into my combo field” any smart player who plays it the way Gw2 expects you to play it would automatically see that visual cue and take advantage of it without having to type or talk.

All dugeon finding does it helps people find groups faster

Since that patch no one is LFG for dungeons. Itsmuch much harder to find anyone to run them. A solo game won’t last long, the zones are boring to do solo. The zerg events are weak. For some reason a lot of gaming companies are hailing zerg zone vents as the second coming of Jesus. They want to believe you can just randomly spawn so boss mob with high HPs in a zone and that will be all the content you will ever need.

These zerg events have a very poor value. I don’t dislike them, but they add very little to gameplay. It looks like Anet said the heck with dungeon design, we hate it, its hard to balance and takes time to get it right, all we need are these zerg events. We wont even have to have tanks and healers, we can get rid of those, and we can still say we have dungeon content even though its a zerg and spawn fest.

Anet convinced itself it could do basically nothing as far as balance and tweaking all the intracies. The last patch was designed to get all those stupid people out of the dungeons and enjoying those lovely zerg zone events. After all what is wrong with us? Dont we know what fun is? Anet needs to get rid of some people in their design department.

I’m actually kind of disappointed in how Anet went about their dungeon usage. In GW1, the story ran you through the majority of areas; only really lacking some endgame areas like the Underworld. The storyline should have utilized each dungeon and take you through it via storymode so there would always be someone waiting for the opportunity to form up and run through. If not, Henchmen.

With the current system, I found myself LFG for a dungeon but am limited to only storymode. This means that the majority of people standing around said dungeon want to have nothing to do with me. I’m either going to have to get lucky and find a compassionate group to take me through or wait for my slowpoke guildies to obtain the necessary level.

Furthermore, I understand the OP’s frustrations. I, too, have spent countless hours waypointing across the map in search of people at the entrance of dungeons. Rarely do I ever find more than 1 or 2 players waiting. I find myself returning to Ascalon because I simply want to run a dungeon.

Then there’s the huge disappointment of the majority of groups out there. I don’t want to farm shards or whatever dungeon reward. I want to enter a dungeon and explore…..take more than the same path etc.

For the love of God, give us a real dungeon tool.

I see a lot of people talking about wanting a dungeon finder tool but I don’t see people talking about what I need to do differently to get in dungeon groups. Is it really a server problem? Do I need to change servers to find dungeon groups? I used to be on Fort Aspenwood but I moved to Ehmry Bay because of this problem. I’m still unable to find a dungeon group or a dungeon running guild. Did ArenaNet intend for this content to be mostly for people who have four friends from outside of the game doing group content? Is there a website which has dungeon guilds forming? Is there a server I need to join? Aside from Lions Arch (which isn’t working) should I be in a different location?

I rarely see dungeon requests being answered in LA (though that may happen via private messages), but there is quite an active chat about teams in the areas where the dungeons actually are. At least a few people are allways standing in front of the gate and broadcast for getting a team together on “my” server.

We don’t really need a dungeon finder – what we do need is a global LFG chat. Because as things are now, you have to go back and forth between LA and the zone of the dungeon, not sure were to find your people. If we could advertise for dungeon groups via global channel, the problem would be no more.
