When looking at Quaggans, I see slow, peaceful, sluggish and fearsome little creatures with no natural feats providing them with an upper hand.

On the other hand there are myriads of hungry and aggressive creatures living in the seas of Tyria.

How have Quaggans successfully avoided “natural selection” for so long?

Also, do they taste “fishy”?

Probably the same way the guineas have survived. The quaggans have assistance from the other races. Guineas are the most suicidally stupid animals known to man, and yet they survive and thrive by virtue of laying enough eggs to keep the population up and having people that tend to them enough to keep the death toll down.

One of the storyline paths takes you down the quaggan road, and along that road you meet a fierce quaggan. Quaggans do not like their own “battle” form and shun those who prefer it, but they can fight when necessary.

But unlike Bruce Banner Quaggans have no ability to defend themselves. A frog’s form does not allow it to become bipedal. A frog which ws bipedal would look nothing like frog’s look now, they’d probably look like humans assuming that frogs could evolve to become bipedal and wouldn’t be more likely to become more aquatic.

The Quaggan are a completely ridiculous and utterly impossible species who would be unable to live if they actually possessed the anatomy they do.

The same is true for the Asura (because of their size they’d have very high metabolisms which would create a lot of strain on the body leading to a much earlier death than a larger species to such an extent that they would not have evolved an intelligence comparable to a humans which is why every tiny race being the smartest is utterly ridiculous because it is completely impossible) and the Charr (they would not be able to properly balance given that their heads are so far away from their torso with nothing to balance them out, they’d constantly be tripping. No species would ever evolve to constantly trip).

If put under serious pressure, they turn into piranha like rage-filled predators.

That is their absolute last defense. It’s something they never want to do.

Their alternative defenses involve being too cute to eat and always looking for peaceful solutions, that’s when their intellectual organization becomes no good (they can handle weapons and form guards/armies too).

Actually, Quaggans have the ability to defend themselves quite well. However, they are also a very timid species that are ashamed of their more ferocious side. But if seriously threatened by predators, a village of Quaggans are no push-overs!

Only reason the Krait are able to bully the Quaggans is because they let the Krait bully them around rather than give in to their rage.

There’s this little thing called suspension of disbelief. I don’t suppose you’ve heard of it?

You’re making baseless assumptions. Size is not an indicator of lifespan or intelligence. Some species of tropical birds can live for 60-80 years, and are not much larger than an average house cat. Elephants are immense in size, yet they lack higher intelligence.

Many quadrupedal animals can balance, and even walk on their hind legs. In case you haven’t noticed, charr drop to all fours when running at full speed. They only stand upright while walking or in combat.

quaggans are both fight and flight. they have their hulk mode where they are competent fighters, but they also consider it embarrassing and impolite to use. so they tend to flee a lot, relocating to quiet waters with fewer predators. but you see it in the story a lot that they will fight when they absolutely have no option to flee. there’s also more than a few quaggan who reject their society’s norms and decide that it’s ok to hulk out. so there are more aggressive quaggan around, although they are social outcasts for being that way.

There’s this little thing called suspension of disbelief? I don’t suppose you’ve heard of it?

You’re making baseless assumptions based on your observations of real world creatures. For instance.

Suspension of disbelief only gets you so far. In order for suspension of disbeleif to work properly the artist needs to move the audience with gentle steps so that the audience starts in a pot of tepid water which raised to boiling so slowly the audience doesn’t notice. If at any point the audience jumps out of the pot then the artist has failed.

And quadrupeds can’t actually walk on their hind legs the same way a human walks on its hind legs because a quadruped cannot remain upright for prolonged periods of time nor can they efficiently move about while on their hindlegs.

Even pregnant bipeds have a hard time remaining upright because of the extra weight in front shifting them off balance. Consider this article:

Pregnant women do not tip over, and researchers say an evolutionary curve has a lot to do with the reason.

Anthropologists studying the human spine have found that women’s lower vertebrae evolved in ways that reduce back pressure during pregnancy, when the mass of the abdomen grows by nearly one-third and the center of mass shifts forward considerably. That increases pressure on the spinal column, strains the muscles and generally reduces stability.

Even without the benefit of advanced study in biomechanics, women tend to deal with the shift – and avoid tumbling over like a bowling pin – by leaning back.

I still remember facing that Quaggan champion in the fighting pit in the Sylvari personal story with my squishy elementalist. That fight was no joke!

I think an awesome event would be a village of Quaggans who have all raged out and are now tearing up the surrounding countryside, laying waste to all in their path. Krait, Hylek, sharks, you name it.

So you have to beat some calm back into them before they do something they’ll all regret deeply afterwards.

I beg to differ. Animals are much more adaptable than you think. Yes, a dog with four legs is going to be able to move faster and more efficiently than a dog with two legs, but that doesn’t mean a dog can’t walk on two legs.

A bipedal humanoid cat is not beyond the realm of possibility.
