How do we catch up on season 1?
You can play only the initial personal story. The Scarlet fiasco is off the table for you. Sry
Dang, that kinda blows. Maybe we’ll see it appear in the gem store along with pre-NPE character personal storys. Because the pacing on those and story are vastly superior to current.
They have said they want to try and find a way to add it into the journal, but there is no timetable for doing it, and probably not real high on the priority list. You should watch youtube or look at a website then play Season 2.
You can read the story in the Wiki. You can search for some videos on YouTube…
Good luck.
So unless I played through the content at a certain time, it is completely locked out and I can’t experience it? Reasons like this is why I prefer single player games…
To be honest I would love to play again the Nightmare Tower and the Marionette. The invasion of LA and the final Scarlet battle was neat as well. Ah the memories..

And reactions like that is why they changed the mechanic for Season 2 to allow people like you to experience it. At least give them credit for learning.
No. You can purchase each Episode with Gems, either obtained with cash or in-game Gold.
Or, you can play through each Episode with a friend/Guildie that has it unlocked.
Your choice. Good luck.
Oh…ooops! My bad…you are referring to Season One. Yes, you had to be there. It was really good (in my opinion).
Perhaps, as the Devs have stated, it will be re-packaged and released within the Journal….some day.

My single largest grip with mmo’s is when they remove content. I just can’t fathom why anyone in their right mind would remove content they worked hard to create.
I quite wow because of their insensate need to remove anything and everything.
I hated, with a massive passion, the destruction of lions arch and the removal of aspects of the game that came as a result.
The removal of season 1 is just ridiculous. I’m okay with buying it for gems, make it happen A-net. Or give it for free as part of the new expansion.

Unfortunately they have isolated many people who missed season 1. I know some people don’t care, but a lot of us also do. It’s like showing season 1 of a TV show for a limited time!
Youth…lol…it used to be they only showed season 1..or 2..or 3 for a limited time. Some of us are ancient and from the time before VCRs, even!
If you wish to wait, Season One will probably make it back into the game, some day, but changed considerably, as most of it was not instanced like it is now. You can just save up all the subsequent Episodes and then play them all through in order.
Good luck.

Thats why I haven’t started it. I missed out and it feels lame to be starting something at the end of season 2 when you have no idea whats going on.

I’m sure many of us feel this way, and it is a hamper for getting people into the game, especially since the practically only new content we have been getting is the Living World.
If it helps, season 1 was kind of bad compared to season 2 imo :P but besides that, many youtubers have done videos that explain all of season 1. WoodenPotatoes i believe has one that sums up the entire season in under an hour if you are interested!
The first season of the Living Story was not replayable. Only after player feedback was it instituted for LS2. They do try to recap a little bit during the Season 2 dialogues if you listen close to all the chit chat and talk to a lot of the NPCs. You can also check out the WIKI page summary here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Living_World_summary/Season_1 although it’s not really in story form for your enjoyment.
Living Story Season One recap in a nutshell: An uber-intelligent Sylvari named Scarlet Briar turns into a wacky Saturday morning cartoon villain when she manages to glimpse the Eternal Alchemy. She goes on a crazy crime spree, creating many world-disruptive devices and joining with several factions of bad guys leaving Kessex Hills and Lion's Arch in ruins. It all turns out to have been preparation for gaining the knowledge and power to awaken an Elder Dragon, which she did at her death during the climax of LS1.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Season 1 was literally part of the Living World…that’s where the term comes from. Non of it was instanced content like S2 is. It wouldn’t make sense for us to just be meeting Scarlet, her waking up Mordremoth, and us fighting against Mordremth to all be happening at the same time in the open world. They had to remove it for the story to make any sense and that was also a part of the original intention of the whole Living World content release system, ‘You are a part of it in real time and it is epic’. There was a lot of QQ about entitlement to rewards and past events, so they dumbed the entire thing down into an instanced snooze fest and sucked the ‘living’ right out of it. S2 is just sad in comparison to the first IMO. At least you can just buy all the rewards, that everyone grinded Metas to get, for just a few gold and pretend like you were there.
