How do you 'save xp' for upcoming mastery?
You do not. Although you can do mastery points in the other zones now.
Hey. I remember I read somewhere about this, but I don’t remember. How does one save xp for the upcoming mastery?
LS3 map daily chests.
It’s not possible in the way that you phrased your question. If you have maxed all masteries, you can’t hold onto the XP you’re gaining passively. However, lots of chests grant XP when you open them, e.g. Chest of the [Insert LS3 Map Name Here] Hero each grant 12.7k XP. There are other XP consumables out there that will grant Heart of Maguuma XP; those are just the easiest to obtain.
So for example, each new map’s Ancient Magics mastery needs 508kXP, which requires exactly 40 saved chests. Presuming that the last map also needs 508kXP, you can save up tonight’s & tomorrow’s daily chest, a total of 32 (if you skip the Bitterfrost Elixir). That’s about enough to max it out completely, counting all the other stuff you end up doing.
For those who are still working on more than one mastery track, you can start using XP on multiple tracks. That’s an efficient way to progress the masteries and some people inexactly refer to it as “saving XP.”
I’ve not heard of people doing that in GW2. People will do it in other games by holding off on completing non-repeatable content, or in more traditional RPGs (MMOs or single-player) completing quests but not turning them in for the reward until they need the XP.
But that doesn’t really work in this game because you get the XP instantly on completing something, and the vast majority of content is repeatable.
I suppose maybe if there’s any story episodes you haven’t done yet you could wait until the next one is released so you can use the XP on the mastery. But other than that there’s nothing you can really save. You could put off doing open-world stuff, but since it’s repeatable there’s no benefit to that, you can get the same XP again later.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
It has to do with which mastery you have focused as you earn xp on the HOT maps. I did this, as you fill the xp bar for one master line you can swap to another master line and build focus on that track while you’re playing. So if you fill up xp on Gliding then shift to ixotle and build xp there. This only has to do with first starting mastery because after only once you purchase a skill can you build anymore xp on another when all tracks xp bars are full.
