Do you know any players who just want to go about in the world in both the high-level zones and the low-level zones and just run around (and sometimes walk) admiring the scenery and looking into the various snacks and crannies for little surprises? Sometimes you skip dynamic events because there is nothing to explore with them since you have done them ready or they are just some simple event like killed this boss alluded’s corpse.

Instead of doing that you would rather go around walking under a forest aiming your mouse up to gaze at the canopy of various colors of orange and yellow leaves. You might wander inside a cave to look at the little skeletons that some troll creature killed. Or you might venture inside a scKRitt city to look at their little contraptions.

You talk to all the NPC’s to read what they have to say even if it’s some trivial dialogue for the sake of entertainment without any quest associated with it. Instead of running, you’ll slow down and walk beside the refugee in the frost then flame the event., Pretending to escort him to his destination.

I don’t want to say that this type of gameplay is done only by a certain type of player and label them as the exploring type of player because I’m sure everyone plays like this to a certain extent. this seems like pretty intense gameplay to me and is something that I would be envious of because I imagine that the player is able to garnish a lot of enjoyment from that type of experience. It’s like being a child again and using imagination to play make-believe with your action figures on the coffee table. It probably offers a lot of stress relief as well.

The best way the developers can incurs this type of game play is to simply add more details and to the world and more interesting guy like for the NPC’s. This type of game play isn’t based upon some achievement system or quest completion. It’s like just exploring for exploring sake., Not to be able to get 100% world completion.

There is certainly nothing stopping someone from playing this way if that’s what they want to do. I often stop what I’m doing to take a look around and take in the scenery. I actively look for things that are hidden and pay attention to the little touches the developers put into the game.

If other people don’t want to do that, that’s okay. They will play the game the way that they want to. There’s room enough for both play styles in the world.

I tend to explore what comes my way, while constantly moving towards that 100% world completion. Best of both worlds IMO.

If I see a rather suspicious cave, I’m going in it. If i see some stepping stones, I’m jumping on them.

I liked it the first month. It was worth it to sneak around and dig into the dark caves in places most people missed because there were rewards that were worth the time and effort. Then Nov came along, and suddenly nothing dropped anything anymore so I went back to the chests i knew existed and what did i find, even they had been nerfed, so no reward for finding the chests. What’s the point. I miss the mmo’s or games that had secret chests filled with gold that you could find out in the wilderness, or even dangerous minibosses guarding said treasure or even a trap filled dungeon like hole in the ground (I found one once and you had to use rocks on platforms but when I made it to the chest I was highly disappointed because the reward for all that time spent was something I could get off of regular mobs, not worthy of all that effort at all).

gwawer you pretty much described exactly how I play every single game I own. I hate beating games, it’s like getting to the end of a movie i really like, i just want that world to keep existing. So I spend a very large amount of time playing just walking around, looking at the incredible scenery in GW2. I’ve been playing for 5 weeks and only have 5% world discovered. And I still find places I haven’t seen yet. I like to zoom all the way in to my character (like on Batman Arkham games) and just walk. The world that Anet has created is just absolutely stunning. And in 3D it is mind-blowing. I wish there were more secret areas to find that aren’t on the map for players like me. – oh wait! – what if there are and I just haven’t found them yet? Back to the game!

I think I’m done with the “exploring” phase. Sometimes though, I catch myself following up on a chain of DE even if i’ve already done my daily req just to see what’s gonna happen next :p

Don’t disturb me, I have a cat in me at the moment.
