How do you want to explore the world?
There is certainly nothing stopping someone from playing this way if that’s what they want to do. I often stop what I’m doing to take a look around and take in the scenery. I actively look for things that are hidden and pay attention to the little touches the developers put into the game.
If other people don’t want to do that, that’s okay. They will play the game the way that they want to. There’s room enough for both play styles in the world.
I tend to explore what comes my way, while constantly moving towards that 100% world completion. Best of both worlds IMO.
If I see a rather suspicious cave, I’m going in it. If i see some stepping stones, I’m jumping on them.
I liked it the first month. It was worth it to sneak around and dig into the dark caves in places most people missed because there were rewards that were worth the time and effort. Then Nov came along, and suddenly nothing dropped anything anymore so I went back to the chests i knew existed and what did i find, even they had been nerfed, so no reward for finding the chests. What’s the point. I miss the mmo’s or games that had secret chests filled with gold that you could find out in the wilderness, or even dangerous minibosses guarding said treasure or even a trap filled dungeon like hole in the ground (I found one once and you had to use rocks on platforms but when I made it to the chest I was highly disappointed because the reward for all that time spent was something I could get off of regular mobs, not worthy of all that effort at all).
my indiscriminate slayer achievement speaks for itself how much i admire gw2 world and its inhabitants.
and the world is indeed beautiful place if you have the time to notice
gwawer you pretty much described exactly how I play every single game I own. I hate beating games, it’s like getting to the end of a movie i really like, i just want that world to keep existing. So I spend a very large amount of time playing just walking around, looking at the incredible scenery in GW2. I’ve been playing for 5 weeks and only have 5% world discovered. And I still find places I haven’t seen yet. I like to zoom all the way in to my character (like on Batman Arkham games) and just walk. The world that Anet has created is just absolutely stunning. And in 3D it is mind-blowing. I wish there were more secret areas to find that aren’t on the map for players like me. – oh wait! – what if there are and I just haven’t found them yet? Back to the game!
I think I’m done with the “exploring” phase. Sometimes though, I catch myself following up on a chain of DE even if i’ve already done my daily req just to see what’s gonna happen next :p
