How does one change spent hero points?
You can’t. Trainers are gone now, too. By the time you hit 80, you’ll have enough to unlock all traits and skills. You can’t unspend any spent points.
You can change your traits for free now whenever you want. You can howver not
unlearn traits, but that has also not worked with the system we had before.

I’m pretty sure you could unspend trait points before. I remember there was a back button on it to unspend points. However, iirc, you only had enough to spend to unlock a certain amount at a time. Now you will have enough to unlock all.
ANet may give it to you.
It does present a problem with elite specializations. Before we were given exactly enough points to unlock everything, fine. Now they presumably want more for the elite specs?
Translation: grinding HP. I wish we could unlearn some stuff we do not need.

Does someone know actually how much hero points will it cost to unlock all of the elite specialization? I already have way more hero point than I can spend and I really didn’t grind them.
Nobody is saying. There was a datamine but it was of more HP than exist in the game. I am hoping for getting a full unlock automatically (which would fit with precedent for our other traits and skills) or the 85 pts a trait line and an average skill line would cost.
Right now I have 3 or 4 characters in the 70s. My plan is to have all of them within a few points of 85 by launch. Well, except for my revenant. Being able to refund points I have already spent would be really helpful.
Grinding HP allows you while leveling to earn traits and skills compared to just waiting on the points from leveling. Plus, no reason to unlock all the specializations if you know you are going to want to try/use the elite spec. At least I don’t think you need to unlock all five specializations before you can unlock the elite.
RIP City of Heroes

Go out and get the Hero points in the open world, its why they gave us the new system before expac release so you will have enough hero points when expac comes.

I am grinding the open world. If they wanted us to have plenty of HPs they would not have given us EXACTLY the number needed for all existing skills and traits. That we got just as much as we needed, no more and no less, (assuming no hero challenges) is a pretty big hint. The suggestion that we get 100% world completion on all our characters now is pretty silly.
I agree with the OP, I wish we could trade some of our skills and traits back for the HPs. We can never have every skill/trait active (and with elites even less) anyway. What would really help is if we knew exactly how many HPs we will need. If I knew I was going to need, oh, 200 HP for a full unlock I would not sweat it because there is no possible way I will have that in the near future on all my characters.

No one is suggestion (Anet or players) that you need 100% world completion, what we are saying that you just need to do the hero points. So you will have enough hero points for all the elite spec and traits when h.o.t is released. lvl 80 gives you all the points you need for the core game skills and traits right now.
Running to HP’s isn’t all that hard use the maps on wiki to help plan your routes and wp’s plus so you know where each one is.

If they wanted us to have plenty of HPs they would not have given us EXACTLY the number needed for all existing skills and traits.
The original plan was that you needed ~60 hero challenges and be level 80 to unlock all existing traits and skills. Due to feedback from WvWers, dungeon grinders, level skippers, etc, they decided to give you what you needed simply by reaching 80. The hidden consequence was of course that those ~60 points would be shifted to the elite specialization.
Moving forward, with future elite specialization, they want you to complete the challenges within the expansion to actually unlock them. They will likely rely on a vertical progression bloat style to accomplish that, as in each (new) hero challenge is worth ~10 points.

It is not the running but the fact that some of them are more challenging than most. Sure, going to the spiral in caledon forest and getting the flower is easy but it is not the same level as battling a champ in orr. Some hero challenges are next to impossible to do without 2 people fighting the Big Bad and their minions.

By that do you mean you think the full unlock will be 60? I can deal with that as half of my characters are in the 70s and I plan on bringing all of them up to 85 well before HOT.
This gets back to the idea of rewinding HPs we have spent. Future characters will know exactly how many HPs they will leave. We are in the dark and do not know if we need every HP in the game or what.
edit: btw, where did you get 60? they gave us 35

Sorry, I don’t see it.
Firstly, you’re not going to need 100% world completion. I would personally think 100 HP is a comfortable estimate for how many skill points you’ll need to complete your Elite specialization, which I want to say is something in the field of 8% world completion.
Secondly, even if the game requires you to complete world exploration, is that not a reasonable expectation? It’s the nature of RPGs to require you to go out and do the content to earn XP and grow your character.

No.
Do not expect your definition of fun to match that of everyone else. I do not complete maps to complete maps. It is exactly the same as someone saying EVERYONE use the same game mode as they do.
This is why people want to be able to reset hero points. They are not interested in doing challenges solely to satisfy some arbitrary design decision.

That was however more like when you know just change your traits or traitlines.
However after the first trait update you still had to unlock the traits first and
you couldn’t simply unlearn an unlocked trait to learn another.
It was only easier with the very first sytem where we just had to buy 3 books
to unlock all traits.

Either the game isn’t for you or suck it up and do some of HP’s Anet isn’t going to add the ability to retrait as you whish since it not needed. It’s not like getting to or doing many of HP’s is hard. Just to low level zones to get the amount you need and be done with it.

You can’t currently. However I would be happy if upon the release of HOT we get a one time relocation ability. My power necro soon to be reaper for instance would have no use for the curses line, but as I made him LONG before the expansion and he generally only does WvW it would seem fair to allow me to resort the points this one time.

Yes, of course if we have to be at 100% on all the current skills/traits it makes that moot. If not I am sure I could remove plenty of things I never use. The one thing I do like about getting HP right now is there is a good chance of someone else being nearby that will join in the fgight (either to help or because they need someone to help them get the point) … hopefully that is not a fluke because of HOT and continues.

A Reddit user datamined 170 hero points needed for the Elite Spec full unlock. No way to know if that is a place holder or the actual amount A-Net will ask for.

The current number we have for elite specs is 170 hero points. + 40 more for each of the 2 elite spec specific skins coming out to 250 hero points. You can currently get 214 hero points + have all of core unlocked in the game.
