How exactly does diminishing returns with drops work?
ArenaNet has already said they won’t reveal how the DR system works to prevent people from trying to work around it.
Basically, don’t farm. Move around, kill different mobs, move around and do different dynamic events. You can move around to different zones and do stuff.
Example: Hanging out in a town that has a repeatable dynamic event will get you hit with diminishing returns.
Farming the same type of monster over and over and over is going to get you hit with diminishing returns.
Ok, so if I run around the lvl 80 zone in orr, hit DR, I can go to the 80 place up in shiverpeaks and be ok?
If you keep killing the same mob type in the same zone over and over, you’ll start to see your loot drop. Usually takes about half an hour of repeatedly killing a specific type, though it depends on how many you’re killing as well, apparently. Eventually, you’ll get nothing at all. To avoid this, keep moving around the map killing other stuff and switch between zones as well. It’s in place to prevent people from farming with bots, but in general just kittens off players trying to farm crafting materials or anyone in Orr for any reason.
Oh yes, there’s Orr. Since every mob in Orr is Risen, DR kicks in regardless, so if you’re exploring Orr and killing stuff it’ll happen no matter where you go, making the main high-level area of the game effectively worthless and broken. Fun, no?
Does anybody have linkage to ANet talking about this in regards to GW2? Like…facts? I’ve seen several discussions about this with opinions varying but no real substance.
