How get rid of auto attack when i use Retreat
I remember my speed boost on ranger Warhorn used to make my pet attack any nearby mob. That was annoying.
For my Guardian, I switch to my melee set when I’m just running along so I don’t attack random mobs.
ANet may give it to you.
That’s true, it mostly became a problem ever since i became a dragonhunter and having 1200 range on the bow.
But with my greatsword it also happens every now and then because it simply locks on nearby mobs, when i walk pass them it will still swing at them.
Is this related to auto target or something? I really want to get rid of the auto attacks.
Basically the title says it all.
Everytime i use ’’retreat’’ to move faster, my character randomly shoots whatever mob is in my line of sight, turning me into combat state, and making me move even slower than before.
How do i prevent this? it’s really too annoying and causing me to stop using retreat, because right now, it’s useless.
Using those skills puts you into combat, draw your weapon and if a mob is near, you’ll attack him. There is an option in the menus where you can disable auto targetting, not sure if it will help though. I just immediatly press “C” again to put my weapon away.
Captain here “toggle autoattack”… Captain Flies away…

Thanks for the tip, will try to hit C after using it.

Captain is correct, just toggle autoattack off and done, that way you can even use your GS #3 next to a mob and not attack it.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
It seems to be related to the fact that skills have affects upon enemies because of an AOE around you, even when it’s not obvious or stated in the description. That one has a radius of 600, so any mobs within that radius are affected by the skill and you attack them. Just like my Ranger’s speed boost on Warhorn caused my pet to attack any mob within the AOE range. My warrior will also strike out at nearby mobs with the Warhorn speed boost skill. For guardian or warrior I either make sure I have melee or I’m not close enough to hit.

Will my ’’1’’ skill with continued use still work then, or does that also fall in the ‘’auto attack’’ category?
Pretty sure there’s a setting in options that makes you auto-target nearest foe, or something like that. I can’t remember exactly and I’m not as my usual machine to check.
If you turn it off, as I have, you shouldn’t accidentally range enemies when you use retreat I think.
I ran into this problem when running Arah paths on my guardian. Using “Retreat” would break me out of stealth every single time, and put me into combat. The only solution I found that worked reliably was turning off autoattack.
A proud altaholic and cartographer.
You probably have all the autopilot options on.
Press F11 or ESC->Options
Scroll down to combat section
Turn off autotargeting will probably fix most of it
Otherwise I know there is one that autoattacks on target get (Hover your mouse of the names and it’ll tell you what they do) that you should probably have off anyway.
The standard settings put your character more or less on autopilot.
While you’re at it, go through and change all the options in F11 to suit you, its well worth your while. There are a ton of QoL options there above combat, and a ton of combat options which you’d probably want off/on if you want to try any fancy fighting.
[Edit: they reset everyone’s settings a few days ago iirc, was a royal pain in the butt]

There’s a bug currently that resets options apon login (a fix is being tested, not out yet as far as i know).
That could further complicate things. Because you need the ‘auto TARGET’, and ‘auto ATTACK’ settings disabled for doing what the op wants (but settings reset bug, activates them again as they are default setting to help new players it seems).
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
