How is it OK to get downed in less than 2 seconds?
It’s a burst damage class and if you dodge his first strike and avoid him for several seconds he’ll have wasted his two best utilities and cannot dodge and will be an easy target as long as you keep dodging pistol whip.
This build has the downside that it’s a one trick pony and if you dodge that trick, the player is cannon fodder and will likely run away.
What class are you? What stats do you have on your armor? How about traits?
Do you build for complete survivability or power? There’s a lot of other info we don’t see.

i’m seeing 22k damage
unless you are a warrior or necromancer you aren’t hitting that amount of health unless you stack so much vit you have no way to actually kill your attacker in kind.
So he pulls that little stunt, and downs me literally in less than 2 seconds. I was like, “WTF?!?!?!” I’ve never seen that before.
Ok, I calm down. I believe next time I see him I’ll be ready for it. Noooooooooope. Same BS, and I saw him approaching, and it was still too fast. I was not able to activate my stun break and dodge out of the way or anything. I don’t know if that first skill dazes or something.
I’m sorry, but no 1 class, no matter if they’re glass cannon or not, should be able to down and kill another player in a shorter length of time than it takes to recover from a sneeze.
I wouldn’t mind so much if it was 2 players comboing their skills or whatever, but this is just a little much. If I wanted to get killed in less than 2 seconds, I’d keep playing MW3 or BF3 or any other quick trigger finger games.
Believe me, I have like 2-3 stun breaks, and my dodges were there, but it was still TOO FAST.
Is everybody else really OK with this?
you still need to deck yourself with defense and appropriate runes. I think it’s incredible entitled, to think that you can make a completely offensive build that gives you a lot of damage, and still think you deserve the survivability.
you can still make an offensive character, but you still need to be realistic and put some points in, for defense and to survive. thats just a given. no matter what style of player you are, you can’t decide that you want the 100% max dmg in every situation, when you put all your eggs in one basket.
scale back, do 80% offensive, and give your 20% remaining points in traits/runes, some defense and to survive.
I see you’ve met Quickness.
Yes, everyone is riding that train right now.
You just need to be a much faster/better player than the one using it on you to survive.

Unless you have access to stealth of course. But seriously, you can usually get away with that depending on what defensive cooldowns you have, I do it all the time.
Mesmer/Thief just have a much easier time with that with access to short cd stealths. Elementalists can usually ALWAYS fit 2 cantrips on their bars, etc.
Thing is, quickness is still a stupid mechanic, when other classes have to actually set up their burst/spike with more thought (Like Ele) and have a much bigger window to be countered, where other classes can just pop Quickness and mash their keyboard for massive dmg in a tiny window that turns the game into a twitch FPS.

Dodge his first attack and back off till haste fades. The only reason pistol whip is hitting that hard is it’s being combined with haste. If you dodge the first attack, the thief’s main trick is gone entirely.
Dodge one attack/gain a 1v1 winning massive advantage, get hit you die. Seems like a fair trade to me.
Thieves are a bad design.
Get over it; once a class like this makes it through development, it rarely gets addressed. Usually one or more of the developers favor it, and they’ll always veto whatever proposed nerfs are brought up.
Years of World of Roguecraft should be indicative enough. Your best bet is just to roll one, and enjoy it for as long as that hollow playstyle entertains you.
The real question is not how much damage that thief did – but how much toughness you had to mitigate it down from 22k.
If you were yourself a glass canon, you deserve to get 3-shot. If not… then there may be something to say, unless your mobility or dodging was poor.

^^
If ‘World of Wasted Time’ teaches you nothing else, it should at least teach you this.
Bury my heart at Wounded Knee.
Dode, dude, dodge. This is a skill-based pvp game that only requires that you duck and dodge….that’s all. Every class and gear-set is homogenized to the point where this is a skill-less game if you’d only duck and dodge.

Sorry but he’s right.
Don’t get me wrong, honestly I think the Thief is a little underpowered yet they do have the spamtastic gimmick builds. Although those loving the ownage wouldn’t agree, the class could use some diversity. Pistol Whip and Heartseeker need some kind of rebalancing whilst the other abilities need a little more oomf.
It is what it is.
Am I digesting this information properly: 16 hits of pistol whip, OP says takes 2-3 seconds to kill him, so approximately 5-8 hits a second? =P

ummm the op never came back… you were just trolled guys
I’m sorry guys, but my husband is at work right now. He will be back tomorrow.
you should make him some apple pancakes to make him feel better everyone likes apple pancakes
In WvWvW a real lvl 80 can down a boosted lvl 80 super fast. Not sure about sPVP

im not sure if people posting here actually play the game
im not sure if people posting here actually play the game
They do.
They just all play thieves.
I play a thief and i have approximately 18k HP in WvW and when another thief can downed me in less that 2 sec is not fun, what’s the use of stacking Vit and buying Valkyrie set when it’s useless and you’re gonna get killed by one skill in less than 2 sec? they need to nerf that damage.
There is my character info. Obviously a Mesmer, a cloth wearer.
And wow, replacement refs, really? Really? That was not a TD catch. Packers deserved that win.
I haven’t done sPvP much. Once or twice when I was a noob (er…. when i was more noobish). Can’t you wear accessories in sPvP?
All accessory slots are summarised in a single amulet, making it easier to build hop rather then having to cycle through 60 ear rings/amulets/rings etc.
