How is it possible to play the tp?
Everyone has their ‘items’ of interest which they monitor. I’ve never really seen much opportunity for being stuff from the TP and then reselling it. Since you know: when you buy, u pay the TP 5% of the cost as a fee. So buying and reselling is somewhere between 15-20% of your final sale price going to the TP as a fee. When you sell you pay the TP 15% (10%+that 5%) total. I’m sure there are certain seasons of the year where demand rips through supply and this becomes a noteworthy long investment….ordinarily people won’t be able to discover these trends though lol.
If you want to start right away: I’ve had success buying components from the TP, crafting items myself, and then reselling the finished item on the TP. Note that many crafted items are priced cheaper on the TP than the selling cost of their individual components. The key is finding the right combination…where you can buy the components in bulk and sell for a price that gives a worthwhile profit (could be anywhere from 20 silver to 3G per item). With this method you need to keep an eye on The TP trends though. If you place an order too large, and it isn’t filled fast enough, others usually can shove your order to a state where it may never be filled or takes days.
And that’s the other thing. You won’t make money buying at the selling price. You gotta place ‘orders’ to save as much as you can. So if the asking price is 1s, and the selling price is 2s….you want to bid a fillable sized quantity around the 1s mark. Certain items will fill extremely fast, other orders you place may never be chosen even if they are the highest. It all depends on the supply and demand of the item in question. Find something where Demand is high enough. write down the current selling andbuying prices it gets. Monitor for fluctuations throughout the week and take note of how fast or often these buying and selling orders are filled, and what kind of price fluctuations take place. This will give you an idea of when its a good time to buy, and when you should sell. You can also take into account upcoming game events that might increase demand for something and drive up the selling prices.
For expensive items that take alot of gold to craft (10G+). I never list more than one of the same kind on the TP at a time….if u list 2 or 3 chances are someone will outbid your price by a single copper and some of those items u listed might get stuck and never sell. I mean I got stuff at 25 G and 23G listed and the going prices are around 20G now….I have no idea when or if I’m going to get those sold. If they don’t sell, and I revoke the order, I take a pretty heavy loss in trading fees. Playing the TP is a case of making a little money off a each item. It can completely scr*w you over if you aren’t lucky and/or don’t play it safe enough.
I stick to selling higher cost items (5Gold+) just cause I can list them 1 at a time. If I have 250 of something to sell…your chances of getting outbid by 1 copper and never getting it sold are much much higher. The cost of production is always changing as well so every so often, update the ‘maths’ to find what kind of ‘new’ ‘lower’ selling prices have become viable.

I can’t really give advice but I can recomend a couple of threads to read, both by a forum poster named Wanze. He started a forum thread, but it appears he has switched over to a reddit thread.

He has lots of interesting things to say about the economy and trading. They’re worth a read.
ANet may give it to you.
Even though I mess round with TP I mainly just craft for a profit. Buy cheap mats and craft a slightly more expensive item. Doing this in bulk with a 10-50% profit margin adds up. Some markets are overcrowded so profit margins will be low. After an update thats when you here about players making hundreds of gold off of a cheap item that becoming a highly demand one.

He creates some really great reward concepts on a regular basis and if you support his suggestions, Anet might give you free stuff whenever you need it and everybody will get the same loot, whatever content he plays.

Requires a fair amount of online research.

His ideas would make everyone rich. Way too radical. ^^
OP will just have to read your posts to get an idea or two on how to get his daily few silver.

There are many ways to play the TP for large amounts of profit. It’s just a matter of how much personal knowledge an individual has about economics and trade ect.
I have few personal friends who are day traders and stock brokers, they use spreadsheets and make thousands of gold in a short period of time.
It’s not easy and takes a good amount of learning but it’s very possible to play the GW2 TP even with all the annoying restrictions arena net put in the system, like unable to sell more than a couple of items before it stops you.
Generally it’s not smart to tell people about profitable markets, as it wont be profitable anymore if large amounts of people know about it, people who play the economy in real life and in mmos won’t tell you how they make their wealth.
Just a little hint, unlike real life where there are laws making certain unethical business practice illegal, there is no such thing that governs video game economies, so go ham (=.
Few ways but not the most ideal.
Do a search by quantity. EG: recently bought the last 40 Nickel dyes for 20s, sold them all for 2g the same day.
placing orders on mats and reselling in small amounts to keep it flowing.
Buy rare minis cheap and forge them (if you like gambling) or buy holographic dragons and forge them for rares.
and my favourite: Buy a bunch of BL weapon skins for 60g during the release event, and sell them 6 months later.
Be warned though, Anet changes things quite frequently that could effect your sales, For example, Electro dye kits and fractal weapon chests.
….. And Elementalist.
