I got gw2 at launch and loved it, got to 71, then the world of warcraft expansion came out and I got sucked into that. So today I logged on(after being tired of wow), I saw maybe 60% less people in a main city from what I last remembered. The zones are dead.

So my main questions are:
I understand that every game will have a reduction of players after release, but is that reason in this case?

Is there dueling yet? I like dueling with my friends, it gives me something to do besides sit in a main city.

How is the pvp, is it more balanced?

Are the dungeons still a cluster of mess?

Is there any sort of end game progression that makes you want to keep playing to get better? Or is it still level up to 80 for nothing?

I’d appreciate a constructive response. Thank you for your time.

1. People left because they maxed out early and ran out of stuff to do. There was a problem with some players and their views of gear treadmills and ascended gear. So some people left.

2. no dueling.

3. slightly more balanced.

4. depends what you mean by that, so far arah path 4 is the probably the only real mess, but everything else is okay.

5. There’s ascended which helps a bit so far rings and a backpiece to work on to go along with the fractals of the mist dungeon which gets progressively harder. Oh and there’s a new zone to run around if you like.

1. There’s tons of people active in Lion’s Arch and all the zones on Desolation EU. I think it varies between servers. Some are low population, Some have mostly people who do dungeons or PvP/WvW. But I see lots of people about still. Server transfers are still free so just have to find a server more suited to you.

4. They never were a cluster of mess. Just a lack of understanding of how this game works and professions and teamwork.

5. There’s tons to do and always has been just depends on whether it’s something you want to do.

Dungeons have gotten much easyer now that people understand. Combat better and thay have fixed manny of the bugs.

It dosnt help that your coming back right after the big Christmas event and it seems after every event the next few days has a bit of player down time (as people get back to dealing with the rest of there real life)

1. I would say yea, I think that’s the reason. The racial cities are ghost towns, and most of the lower level zones are much more sparsely populated. But Lions Arch is still a happening place.
You probably hit at a low population spot too, holiday event just ended, and folks may be a bit burnt out. There was also the latest wave of controversial bans, that probably has a few people too disgusted to play til they give their emotions a few days to cool. I figure population will be up a bit in a week or so.

2. No dueling. Hope for the future since there’s supposed to be major updated in the next few months for all aspects of the game, but no official word.

3. It seems a bit better. Still some imbalances, but as long as you stay out of the ranger board and avoid any thread mentioning thieves you probably won’t notice.

4. Harder to get dungeon groups, for anything but Fractals of the Mists (a new dungeon) but the majority of the bugs were fixed, and they are easier now that more people know how to play their classes.

5. Fractals of the mists lets people grind for ascended gear, and even when they have all the ascended gear available they can still continue grinding harder and harder fractals just for bragging rights.

You may wish to transfer, as the game is not dead, but some servers are more active than others (in part because people are trying to consolidate on the bigger ones rather than outright leaving).

Honestly, I think the game could be dying, slowly but surely, and Anet is going to have to do some Major changes. At first all the new features seemed like the greatest things ever, new, fresh, innovative. But people are starting to see all the major faults of this game (Lack of depth in dungeons due to removal of trinity, poor endgame, etc.) OF course I may be wrong, I am sure many will disagree with me

Its kinda funny… Theres alot of problems in GW2 atm (remember its still a “young” game though, should be lots to come content/UI/etc from devs as we go along), but if theres one single thing that would actually make me leave its forced trinity…

Speaking from experience, we had a massive wave of new players recently, so they’re currently wokring though the content. Likewise, a large amount of the “rush everything” croud are gone. I’d personally say the plyer count is stable at the moment, though divided between low level zones and high level zones, leaving it outright barren in the midlevel zones.

Dungeons are just fine save a few realllllllly dumb encounters (Twilight Arbor Forward/Up final boss is boring as can be, and will down most people a ton)

Class balance is pretty good.

There’s still very little at 80 that really matters. Not that I care, I have 44g and I don’t have a single use for it.

This game is horrible. IT is a clunky piece of crud that doesn’t work well at all. The population for it will likely continue to fall as well.

I don’t see this continuing to be popular except to a small group of MMO gamers and former Guild Wars gamers. It was nothing like what we were led to believe it woudl be.

Complete waste of money and time. Just avoid it.

It has most of the 2012 game of the year awards, is incredibly popular and is really a great game.

Just play it – the game’s quality speaks for itself.

It is by far the best MMO, with the best class balance, and shows how ugly and boring old MMOs like WoW are.

Sales charts, server population cap situations, and so much else tends to disagree with you. It seems to be less able to retain players, sure, but it’s picking players up quickly, and having fairly decent return counts on events.

Yes and no. Sure players that didnt like the game left. And then there are those that are taking small breaks because this game isnt a subscription game that requires the developer to keep them entertained 24/7. Although, I think Arenanet has done better than most developers, including Blizzard, with monthly updates of content…monthly dude. Isnt that neat?

Is there dueling yet? I like dueling with my friends, it gives me something to do besides sit in a main city.
No dueling.

How is the pvp, is it more balanced?
I never thought it was very imbalanced and from what I understand Anet has always wanted to keep class balance changes to an absolute minimum, unlike other games that class balance weekly. I think every class has its niché, counters certain classes and specs, and is vulnerable to certain classes/specs. So if you cant counter a glass cannon mesmer, you might be able to counter an elementalist. IMO, no class should be able to handle every situation.

Are the dungeons still a cluster of mess?
Dungeons never were a cluster mess…IMO. People still skip mass portions of it. That I do know why. But the dungeons are OK and they said they have plans to revamp. They have added fractals into the game which are endless dungeons that increase in difficulty as you complete, with now a small ahem gear grind to be able to complete the later levels…

Is there any sort of end game progression that makes you want to keep playing to get better? Or is it still level up to 80 for nothing?
See above..fractals and ascended gear. This caused quite a stir in the community but i think most people made their peace with it, like me. They better not add another tier..they said they wont, but they better hold true to that.

I’d appreciate a constructive response. Thank you for your time.

I’m the one in the Point 1.

I stoped playing, nothing more to do and I will not Farm and Grind like crazy for get the next tier for my equips, no grind it’s an promisse ANet did before realease that was a lie.

I’m also hoping for Major changes to the game fixes some systems (LFG, Guilds…) and manages to make the way to the next tiers and everything FUN and not only farm and grind like it is at the momment!

The in game population is greatly diminished.

Everyone in game sits in fractals.

All other dungeons and entire REGIONS are completely neglected.

There is no LFG tool for other dungeons.

The 3rd party LFG tool is completely ineffective.

Culling is still a major issue in WvW

Developers are in church mouse mode, and letting the “yes men” do their talking for them.

ArenaNet does NOT play Guild Wars 2. This can’t be.

I don’t see the incentive for ArenaNet to provide new content now, they have our money. Unless they made major changes to the game it isn’t likely to continue selling much, and major changes mean work which has to be paid for.
I guess they will focus on a new product.

I too am disappointed with the broken promise of no grinding, it seems to me ArenaNet tried to attract more customers from the WoW crowd, who want to grind.

I got the game for the co-op PvE but teaming up with people has been random and infrequent as the majority of players I see are high level, spending most of their time in the competitive modes.

The game’s levelling mechanics and limitations are too much focused on PvP and WvW which impacts negatively on PvE , and perhaps some of the reverse is also true.

1) No

2)No

3)No, the original dungeons are now obsolete.

5)Yep, you can run fractals now. Kinda like farming for exotic gear from the previous dungeons except less rewarding.

The dungeons do seem to be a cluster.

There is no dueling from what I’ve understood.

PvP is still imbalanced as there are only two classes that can 1 shot and 2 handed swords on the classes that can use them make you more deadly somehow then any conventional 20th century weapon of war like grenades, guns, flamethrowers, rockets, bombs, mortars, shotguns.

The game is in trouble. It has shed the vast majority of the population it started with and the exodus continues. I dont want to do a huge post about all the bad decisions Anet has made. Accounts on a server does not equal the amount of people playing or population concurrently online. Just the amount of people who have their account on it.

PVE – open world loot drops =0. The nerfed open world loot drops to the level of porous bones – not enough to cover way points.
No one is out there try to do plinx but you have to wait till 7-10pm cause that is the only time people are on to run the full cycle and you get 10% of the loot you got before Nov 15.
They introduced the Fractal dungeon and Ascend grind gear. Gated gear content that is a huge grind. But it has the best loot and best gear drops so that is all people do.Funnel everyone to LA to spam LFG.

Spvp- done like dinner outside a few hours like PVE

WvW – stale they let it go way to long without addressing the issues and outside of T1 there isnt a q for anything. But there will be an update to add a little more in the future. Soon*
Anet has exhibited the same kinda of management decisions that are associated with Bioware and on the same level of impact on the player population.

Balance is way out of whack still and dueling doesnt happen (but you can in SPVP cause there isnt anyone in there). You may want check out ascend gear if you like that kind of grind for endgame. That is a quick update of the state of the game.

Accounts on a server does not equal the amount of people playing or population concurrently online. Just the amount of people who have their account on it.

Leaving the rest be and pointless unconformable statistics aside. The status of servers is actually only a half truth due and this has been discussed ad nauseum in other threads. There is a peculiar volatility to the server population counts (Full/Very High/High etc) that changes with the peak hours of the servers. It would seem that the way the status of a server is calculated either has a timeout feature (X days of not logging in removes you from the tally) or there are multiple criteria going into accounting for server status. (It would be, after all rather bizarre and nigh impossible, for people to be able to enter Full servers ever if the cap was defined only by attached accounts since, when people quit, they don’t leave the server nor do they make room. As people enter they’d never be able to join a Full server and yet they do so by doing so at off hours of the day for said server.)

Of course, as a caveat, it may well be that the actual value of what is full or not is changed regularly (we know they change it during holidays for the increased traffic, which would actually seem to imply, again, that logging in/out has some affect on capacity statistics) so it could be a completely nonsensical, useless thing to look at.
