I love GW2 and all, but good god man, how! 8 chars to 80 I see as a standard, I’m close to that, 10 chars to 80, sure not out of the question. 12 chars to 80, alright that guy really likes this game. 15 80s wow seriously, take a break!! But 23 80s?? I don’t even have a comment to make about that, my brain shuts off after 15 80s.

At least male armor gets both shoulder pads (and cooler looking ones from gemstore. Phalanx, I’m looking at you ><)

4 – Ele, Ranger, Mes, Thief

I have 2 @ 65 waiting for the last push to 80 (Personal story rush can get these last 15 levels in an hour or two depending on how much of the necessary maps you opened previously)

My other 4 are all between level 30 and 50. I have 2 more planned, but have not bought character slots for them yet.

Can anybody explain to me why some people have 2 exact same classes and why both at lvl 80? What the heck is the point of having two classes that are the same…?

Anyway, I got a sylvari ranger and human guardian both at lvl 80 and i’m trying warrior (lvl 17) and ele (lvl 5), although you can hardly say I’m trying, looking at their current levels. I think the warrior is very boring so far. I’ve created one multiple times becuase apparently they are good at everything in PvE, but everytime I come to the conclusion that it’s really not exciting at all playing that class.

But the ele has been quite fun with all those different skills. I have, however, a hard time with attunement switching as my F1-4 function keys are secondary (becuase their primary function is to adjust brightness etc).

Different builds (weapons/traits), for me anyways.
For each of my set of 4 duplicate professions, each one has different weapons sets.
one engi is built for ‘nades and the other is built for flamethrower.
one ele is staff (main toon) and the other was to do scepter/dagger (to try out, since people said it was better dps, though still not convinced)
second warrior was something as a joke and meant as temp, but I really liked Asuran greatsword looks/animations.
Can’t remember reason for two guards… I think it might have just been due to race.

To me… different feel. As well as different builds… one for pve, one for wvw for example.
Additionally I did 8 humans to learn which I liked best. Then planned for duplicates in the other 4 races (1 per) to experience their stories.

3 – Charr (Male) Warrior
4 – Human (Female) Necromancer
5 – Norn (Female) Mesmer
6 – Asura (Female) Engineer

In order of leveling, and I have a 9th slot for key run and to get thief hoods and mesmer/necro masks

I guess for me a lot of it is due to the way that I learn to play a profession. I learned long ago in WoW (where you can have two specs), that just creating a second spec on a toon doesn’t work well for me…I never really learn it well. I tend to start with a build and play style in mind at level 1…and learn from there. By the time I hit 80, I feel comfortable. Switching to a entirely different build or play style at level 80 just, for whatever reason, doesn’t seem as fun or as effective for me. So, that is why I have two warriors. Nothing earthshaking…just a preference.

Different specs, different gear, different purposes. Different playstyle.

I’m in a small guild, and I will often pull out the profession/build that covers a gap both in Dungeons (Explorables/Fractals) and WvW. We run with a group of four.

A dagger/dagger ele does not play the same as staff. Ditto a dagger- tanking-wells specd necro vs minion master.

Add min/maxing into the mix (traits/gear) and the need for alts is real.

GW2, unlike a couple of other MMOs, does not have any in-game mechanics that allow for easy and error-free swapping of builds/gear/skills.

All but 1 of my 23 level 80s is In exotics or better. Have one character I used almost extensively for WvW during Season 1 decked in ascended. Am working on a second (ugh) as one of my guildmates has swapped characters and we need what my guardian can bring. I have the opportunity to provide that, my guildmates can only play on weekends, with some sporadic nights tossed in occasionally.

Helps that I’m retired.

Not much else in the game to explore without an expansion, so races/stories, experimenting with different builds. I normally have 3-4 accounts per game ( every game over the last 14 years) and am used to playing 2-3 characters at the same time, manually, with PCs sitting side by side (no keystroke copies or macros).

And this game makes it so easy to churn out a new alt in a week or less.

It’s not a matter of really loving the game, this gal just gets bored easily. Horrible personality flaw.

8x 80 (all profession). No time, pressure or feel of need to level another. Although i have quite a few lowbies for several reasons.

14 80’s as of a 2 days ago..(thx LA event!). I’m going for 2 of every class to have different variety of animations, looks and builds. I was also trying to get all races in the 3 different armor sets (heavy, leather, light). Just need a mes and thief to finish. Its to bad Anet hasn’t released new races yet……

We have a member with 14 iirc permanent lvl80’s and he has gone through 4 more then deleted them.

I played a Thief in beta, but I’ve deleted every one I’ve made since then.

I probably wouldn’t play this game if the Guardian didn’t exist.

I’ve got 5 characters, one of each race, at 80. Each has earned a Gift of Mastery. I’ve had a sixth character slot sitting empty since just after release that will continue to go unused until the moment a new playable race is made available.

I have all classes at level 80 but I skill them in a “not boring” way to avoid the shock caused by class differences other people seem to suffer.

For example, – my Necro is full zerk – no minions, no conditions. Because choping something up with 7-15k axe attack (depending on buffs) and doing 5k on every hit in Death Shroud is much more fun than pressing some button that lays a bunch of conditions on the opponent while i stay at 900-1200 range.

There are unique ways to play ever class, don’t just assume the status quo, and you will have alot more fun. One recommendation is to go zerk on traditionallly non-zerk classes, and go non-zerk on traditionally zerk classes (e.g condition damage warrior with 25 stacks of bleed). Your world will be turned upside down!

I made 7 Lv80s, but I only have 5 Lv80s. During my newbie days, I never knew you can buy character slot, so I deleted my Mesmer and Necro. I badly miss them both…

L80 human necromancer, L80 sylvari mesmer, L80 charr guardian, L80 norn warrior, L80 asura engineer, geared with exotics, some with exotics+ascendeds and only one with full ascended. All of them use berserker builds.
4/5 have map completion.

Dont see the point if im not going to play them. Max level means nothing in this game

12 80s, because I like leveling, it feels like quantifiable progression. Also I RP so weapon/trait choice will derive from the persona (or vice versa, I’m on my 3rd Mesmer now so I picked weapons I hadn’t used as main weapons yet).

Thief – dashing human gentleman ladykiller conman, ICly all hidden daggers, but once rapiers arrived he started sporting one.

Ranger – ok, just made her to get an 80 ranger. I don’t like the playstyle so much and never RPd her. But she’s a self confident norn and keeps a wolf and raven by her.

Engineer – another I leveled to see the class at 80, too klutzy for my tastes. Another norn, he’s an architect with big dreams of building an arcology to dwarf Hoelbrak. Grenades and flamethrower mostly.

Warrior 1 – human street rat, good at picking anything up and making it a weapon, a genius with a real weapon. She has nondescript armor an IC guild leader gave her, a greatsword she found in a pawn shop, and a rifle I don’t really think of as IC. Sullen and has anger issues, so she goes for big solid weapons she can really lay into things with.

Warrior 2 – male sylvari, cool and calculating in combat. Longbow and sword/axe. Mostly made so I could do more ’vari cultural gear and try less boring warrior combat, never yet RPd beyond a random moment in Kessex.

Guardian 1 – female sylvari Valiant, a deeper thinker than her simple vocabulary shows, dedicated to protection and the pursuit of beautiful places. Scepter/focus, sometimes sword/shield, traited to defense and healing, she’s my go-to for dungeons with my guild.

Guardian 2 – male human, GS/occasional staff (to use different weapons), aimed more at dps. An ex-Seraph booted out for neglect of duty, he’s self-centered and lazy, the shout more “Save your_selves_.” Created because a guildmate’s character needed a boyfriend, though he’s got more story going on than just that.

Necromancer 1 – human female, originally made so I could have a human female in the pretty clothes. Her bags are packed with most all the cloth skins available in game, and she’s learned a lot of dyes. Easy going shopkeeper’s daughter, kind, ICly staff (she has a bad back, all the idle animations are her stretching it), also dagger/variable. She’s my tailor and my only 500 crafter, being a seamstress.

Necromancer 2 – female sylvari, I wanted cultural light armor. Daft scientist researching decay and the treatment thereof in case the Pale Tree ever gets root rot. Axe/focus, with a staff for OOC use because it’s so handy.

Elementalist – female charr, designed pre-launch to be in a warband. I found her far too squishy and she languished a long time until I finally moved to get an 80 of each profession. She was staff, but leveling got more fun when I swapped to dagger/dagger.

Mesmer 1 – female Asura, designed pre-launch. Seldom RP’d but she’s a manipulator of light fields, sword/pistol and GS.

Mesmer 2 – female human, created when my guild wanted me to make my thief’s sister. Sword/sword (love them there rapiers) and GS. ICly she’s not a mesmer, she’s a sword and pistol wielding Seraph trained fighter, but needed the cloth armor for posh looks.

Working on Mesmer 3 now (scepter/focus, with GS — mesmer GS is just too awesome not to have). He’s a vari version of the Scarlet Pimpernel.

As you can see I like humans, sylvari, guardians, mesmers, and necromancers. I struggle with all the medium armor wearers in terms of game play. After this mesmer, I dunno what I’ll make next. Likely nothing until an RP idea comes along. I did start a vari female thief but couldn’t stomach leveling a second thief much as I love RPing my main guy.

I have Charr Mesmer (main) ,Elementalist ,Warrior and Engineer.
I have Charr Thief and Guardian too but they are not 80 yet.
And a sylvari Necromancer.
All male. (Don’t get me wrong but female VO is somewhat….annoying especially for female asura.

Many started off as mules but if the stars are correctly aligned, they could get leveled up (i.e. if I get bored and there happens to be a character slot sale around the same time – someone needs to take over the mule duty)
