How many people did you invite?
Just leave for a while and play something else.
You’ll be back soon enough
Yep. When Arenanet realise ascended gear was the dumbest idea ever, and admit they kittened up and apologise.
Then people will come back.
Don’t hold your breath.
None, I couldn’t force myself to inflict the game on friends, it’s not in a state where it’s even a good idea for trials right now.
There isn’t even any guesting.
3 people, and could have used 2 or 3 extra invites …

AFAIK trials get put onto your server, regardless of the server’s population, even if it is full 24/7. However, if your friend(s) bought the game instead of accepting the trial, they’re now stuck on backwater servers, and can’t play with you, unless you transfer to them. In which case, good luck getting back to your original server.
I’m well aware you can play with people in the overflow, but that’s the thing. I couldn’t actually get into an overflow to play with them.
+1 for adding in guesting.
2 invites, everyone else I know is playing or has tried it and left (on good terms, just not for them).
0. Lost faith in the game sometime ago. But I did once try to recommend it to one of my friends. He wasn’t really interested. Now I don’t even want to recommend it to anyone.
Me and my bf were to invite 6, full number we could on our accounts.
These were the people who would not buy the game without trying it, even though we tried hard to convince them how amazing this game is with no vertical progression.
Obviously ,we did not invite any in the end, ticketi gsupport for full refunds instead.

0, i told them to back off and keep in DDO, one even told me meh i was about to buy it i already had the money ready, i told him u lost nothing stick in DDO ull find it better right now, they are making this a grind game so whats the difference.
I basically did the same, A few DDO friends wanted to try. Told them to stay where they were.
Although ascended isn’t making a big difference to me yet.. I play multiple alts , trying to get the feel for the game and it’s professions..
I’m in no hurry to get to 80 yet or grind for skins/stats I hate the grind (along with the bugs and massive unneeded nerfs) , which is why I dropped DDO for something new and different. Now the major differences are only graphic.. Bugs, nerfs and grind are abound.
I’ll play until I hit the grind fest , and then decide what to do. I’m still bothered by the way this game is going.
Time will tell.
The same here: wanted to invite two friends but read about the treadmill beginning and didn’t. They do not have more time for grind as I have, so why bother?
Still sounds like revenge to me.. The grind comes nowhere near other MMO’s that most people play right now. Most of the people that say they played wow etc never even played wow long enough and I can tell by reading their posts. Real wow players know that the grind comes from loot being random and competition on rolls and daily and weekly caps. Nobody has ever mentioned that GW2’s system doesn’t work like that. So how can the grind be anything close to that?
It doesnt matter if its mild grind, grind is Grind, nothing u can do or say will make up for that, DDO and WoW beats this game in grind, and for your information, in DDO u can get very high end items by crafting then with a very high chance of achieving those items, DDO also has a system where it limits how much time u play the high end content, so they make up for that with very good loot which u can craft sooner than u might think.
And FYI gw2 system does work like that, for all the irrevelant gear u get a pretty high chance of drop, now the exotic is included in that list, it only does not work exactly like that for max stats now, that means ascended, instead u are assured u will be forced into grinding it, infact u wont even be able to buy them off TP, u will literally be forced to grind them urself with no matter how much gold u have, futhermore i played WoW untill reaching level 60 which was max by that time, after i grinded for max stats gear i had nothing else to do got bored of the grind system as the game was clearly all about it, 1 month and few days to reach level 60 was a joke in itself, then i quit, saw GW1 and i decided to give it a try without knowing anything about it, i liked almost all that it had to offer i played it for 4 years and even now i consider it a fine game, ive been grinding in other mmorpgs too.

exactly the same as me then, i too have alts and planed to max them up to enjoy the most that this game had to offer, im not a person who is going to accept beying limited by 1 char and waste my life pressing the same button combination for all eternity for the sake of gear “progression”, it doesnt work like that with me.
in DDO i have a maxed (level 20) sorcerer and paladin, my only complaint so far about paladin and other melee weapons in its game was that the animation of the skills affected nothing for the animation of the character itself, it just kept doing the same animation over and over and over that bored me a bit too, the adventure part and dungeon part however is much more advanced than this was or is, it really made me enjoy the dungeons in that game, it was like an adventure game with your buds and not the same repetitive crap u see in most mmorpgs, kill this, kill that and dungeon done… thats why i think when this game enters that market, it wont stand a chance.
Btw i know now u have epic levels, i just dont have any information about it because i didnt play the game for quite a while.

Ironically, the prospect of better gear to be earned might change the minds of some of your friends who thought it wasn’t for them the first time around.
Even if it is only a backpack and a couple of rings. Oh and legendaries.
I was actually going to buy several copies as a way to invite family and friends for the holidays, but alas things have changed and I’m looking for an alternate.
None. I kind of lost trust in Arenanet to give them any sort of help. I used to be the biggest defender of this game. I still enjoy it, I still think overall this game trumps games like WoW and Rift. But I have been mislead for the last time over this game, and have spent my last penny on gems. I will not buy anymore. Sadly, my wife bought me two gem cards for christmas(what a good wife…and she hates games). If it weren’t for a feeling of obligation/guilt, I probably wouldnt be playing for the next few months just to stick it to Arenanet.
I did, however, resub to WoW and split my time between the two games. Surprisingly that expansion is not too bad. The one dungeon I did was pretty fun. And I at least expect a gear treadmill there, from the premier game that does it well instead of this nonsense.
We’ll see how this weekend and the next week or two shake out. This will determine if I devote any further substantial time to this game.
None. I convinced them all to pre-purchase already. They all loved the levelling, the movement heavy combat, the lack of traditional questing, the graphics. They were really raving about how great it was while they were getting to 80.
But… then they mostly left for MoP because they said there’s no endgame, the dungeons aren’t challenging and the loot is boring.
I invited three people. Not sure if one will show up, but we’ll see.
No one, because I couldn’t recommend such a half finished product (“when it’s ready”, LOL) from a dishonest company that sell a product on one basis then swifty do a complete u-turn 3 months in.
In fact I am doing the opposite and telling my friends (and other forums) never to buy a product from Anet or NCsoft.

Don’t plan on inviting anyone anymore.
Would love to claim that it’s because of ArenaNet, but the reality is that I don’t have any more friends that would like to try it.
Invited 2. One played for a while and didn’t like the flow of combat and said “Thanks, but not for me.”. The other quit after the negativity in game chat bummed him out.
One of them invited me to re-join them in TSW, and since I can’t seem to find groups for dungeons these days that aren’t gear checking or moaning about “We already have enough condition damage” – or simply drop from the group I’m trying to start… /sigh — anyway, thinking about heading that way to play TSW again instead.
I tried to invite 3, but 2 of them went ahead and bought the game a few days ago before the event.
Zero, nil, nada… not because the game wasn’t good or something (actually it is a good game) but because the people I’d invite first have played GW2 already and now play other stuff and other people I know who played a lot of GW1 are either not interested or have too old computers.
Zero. I only regret I could not invite negative people.
“Why would I play WoW 2. If I wanted to grind for gear every day i could stay at WoW.”
It’s funny how us unwashed masses seem to able to understand this but a “professional” development team completely fails to grasp such a basic concept.
Three. Two of which saw the new gear grind and told me they’re not even downloading the client. The other I didn’t think was going to have time to play this weekend, but I invited just in case.

The hilarious thing is, if we compare gear grinds, WoW is WAY more fun. Each tier of gear actually comes with unique-ish effects, unlike a plain stat boost in this game. Heck I might actually play WoW now!

Pretty much sums it up. It just puzzles me why would they go and try compete with gear treadmill mmo’s when they had something much better before , and to many was one of the main selling points?
Won’t invite anyone to a game that abandons everything why it came popular in the first place.
(edited by Boomstin.3460)
Used all 3 invites. Dunno if any will actually play though.
0. I will in fact tell my friends that were still on the fence about this game not to buy it.
Ascended items, design philosophy that has turned out to be little more than PR, and double-speak “communication” only after massive outcry about all this.
None. It’s not anymore the game I’ll recomend at anycost.
Didn’t invite any because I don’t even really play anymore and honestly don’t think many of my friends would like this game either or they already tried it and hated it.
I invited none.
I would have, until the game turned into something it should never have been. I’d talked to a few friends who were excited to try, but then I told them never mind.
I invited three friends from Swtor (they are all trying it out).
Gw2 is a different game than many of the games mentioned here, it won’t be everyone’s taste. That’s understandable.
I will say I’ve noticed the lowbie starting areas a lot more crowded the past 12 hours

That is the core of the matter; WoW is a game built from the ground up to be a gear grind. GW2 was not in any way, shape or form.
Add to this straight-up lies and deception from AN and you have a textbook guide on how to take one of the most promising titles in half a decade and ram it into a mountain of stupidity and greed.
I invited no one since i can hardly sell a game to my mmorpg-gaming friends that is exactly the same from level 10 to level 80.
