How many people here still kill the dragons?
The only reason I haven’t been to the claw on my guardian is because I greatly dislike my range options and he likes to knock melees way the hell back.
I do. I usually get a couple rares and maybe a lodestone or exotic from jormag event. Here’s a dragon timer for you.

Oh wow, tyvm
Hey Kaizer,
A chest is a chest. I have a rounds sheet, as I like to call it. I add chests, any chests, to the sheet and then try to come up with a pattern of making rounds each day/reset to loot’em. By the time I get 100% map I figure if I want I can spend an entire gaming session just running the sheet.
To answer your question, yup I run the dragons. They’re in the schedule. As for drops, loot is loot and it can all be sold
Cheers!
Honestly, I’ve kept an alt or two parked at dragons. There’s the timer website noted above, but also my guildmates will say “Tequatl just spawned,” and it’s an easy 6-item chest, plus the event itself, to log over to harvest. I don’t think I ever got anything I actually equipped from a dragon, but the vendor is always happy to buy those greens and blues, and I’ve definitely got ectos and other fine sellables.
I usually kill at least 1 per day to be honest.
I kill Claw of Jormag at least once each day. Lots of vets, a few champs, and the dragon itself.. usually a semi-decent haul, even if I end up selling everything to the merchant because the drops are usually crap.
I live to slay internet dragons.
1) Party up for better drops from mobs
2) Tag all the mobs
3) Use MF
I get at least 1 rare 50% of the time, and twice I’ve gotten an exotic. Get lots of t5 & t6 mats from the mobs.
I do, and even more since I heard about the dragon timer. Even if I only get blues, it pays for the jump. If I happen to get a yellow item or two, well then if it’s not something I intend to keep then at least I’m likely to a get a little ecto.
Most of all, I really enjoy the great big mob all working towards one goal and helping each other out. Even afterwards, if I’m QQing in chat over “just blues,” I’m still sitting there irl with a big stupid grin on my face.
I avoid them because of connectivity issues.
we have to do things others may qualify as “evil”.

Jormag is how I finish daily. Killing him and all the ice crystals is either 4 or 5 of your events for the day.
I don’t believe anyone who says they get 2 rares and sometimes a corrupted lodestone from each dragon.
I have gotten 2 lodestones in about 30 Jormags (actually 1 was underwater so that was apart from him). And rares are less common in chests. I’d agree with the 50% chance to get a rare overall including adds. Never gotten an exotic ever, even with about 130% mf.
Any time I’m on and not doing nothing I check the dragon timers. If its about to go I go to the zone.
I can’t be bothered with the dragons. There’s just so many better things I could be doing with my game time. I did them each a couple of times and it was fun but now they just feel like a long chore with little to no payoff.
I’d rather just AoE farm around Orr to be honest. I usually end up with more in less time.
I prefer tequila though. reaaly easy to do, and you don’t even have to hit him to get the chest (just kill the mobs, etc). I dislike the jormag for the amount of time I’m getting downed (just annoying) and the lag. I’ve never gotten anything good from them apart from a rare, so I guess I’ll just take it. easy (meaning little effort) for a bunch of blues and greens doesn’t seem so bad.
Because I am in the process of writing my final paper for school, I’ve been doing nothing but writing as I camp dragon locations and watch the dragon timers website.Dragons have a 2-3 hour respawn timer. If I’m lucky, they spawn early.
I’ve been killing nearly 12 to 15 dragons a day this week (If I don’t miss any while I’m smoking or eating and if servers don’t reset), plus getting the big WvW jumping puzzle chests. That is 16 chests a day.
Still, I have no legendary and I’ve been getting more Blues than I have Greens. I’ve only picked up maybe two Exotics from dragons since I started playing on release date. I would have better luck getting exotics killing monsters in Orr during that time or just running dungeons, but since I can’t play (again, I’m writing a final paper) this is my only option. The rate at which good loot drops makes killing dragons less profitable than if you were killing normal monsters. The wait time + lacking difficulty can easily make them not an interest for many players.
Even as I do PvE or PvP, I try to catch every dragon respawn by looking at timers and then go immediately back to what I was doing. My girlfriend hates killing Jormag because it takes the longest to kill and the chest rewards are always poop.
Things to consider:
1.) Magic Find has no influence (NONE) on what is inside the chest.
2.) I don’t know if partying has any influence on what is inside the chest. When I’ve got my exotics, I was party-less.
3. Jormag monsters (Veterans and champions) that are level 84 sometimes are left behind (bug) and you can try to kill them for loot. I killed 4 vets and 1 champion after Jormag’s death today and none of them dropped loot. Still, it is wise to attempt to kill these monsters anyway. It is not easy to kill these things even with 4 people. Champions have a kajillion hit points… wtf is up with that? It was like fighting Tequila.

I haven’t killed claw in a long long time. Mostly when it’s up people are just farming the waves and don’t give a rats kitten about damaging the wall. I understand them though since the loot you get before the chest is usually better than the loot you get from the chest itself.
Eh. Of late, I’ve been focusing on my alts, but my main still likes to kill a dragon. Today, I actually grand-slammed the lot (actually getting the Shatterer twice!), and then joined a small group at the Champ Karka and killed it (seriously – there were only six of us there the whole fight).
And personally, while I get terrible rewards overall (four dragon chests, mostly greens and blues, with ONE Rare), I just find the fights FUN…. especially the Claw! Honestly, Shatterer and Tequatl are pushovers (although I think Shatterer is not quite as pushover-y as he was a couple months ago!); only the Claw makes for an invigorating fight – a definitely significant challenge, but not an impossible one.
I like Frostgorge for the harvest nodes and mat farming, so I’m usually camped there for 2 days in a row, then back to Orr for 2 days, rinse and repeat. I follow the timers and will do Jormag at least once each day when in FG, sometime twice if I get the timing right. On weekends I might do the one in Sparkfly as well ..
I have looted 2 rares over my last 10 dragon events, the rest is the usual crap blues and greens. I don’t count those lvl 60 and 80 medallions as proper loot, so, the rare drop rate for me is 20%, I have never looted an exotic from a dragon …
ive gotten some decent stuff from them and even if its a yellow i cant use i can usually get a few ecto from it
I haven’t done Claw in a long time since I dislike Frostgorge, but I do Shatterer regularly- I have no idea what drops I get for it, I just think he is pretty and he happens to be on one of my favorite maps.
Blegh to the Sunless.
I have done every dragon once on my main – sometimes twice if I happen to be in the area. But no, I don’t come back for the dragons, nor do I time them. They’re not that much fun to do, so I don’t really bother.
would you guys kill dragons more often if:
- they were as difficult to kill as Ancient Karka
- given that, you had at least one exotic dropping guaranteed

I would kill them more if the battles were actually fun. Most of them are a “spam 1” fest.
The more dragons I kill, the more norn women I can impress… so yes. I kill dragons as often as i can.

For Jormag, I always stay back on the ridge near the tents and cannons. I farm the mobs that spawn from the crystals and don’t bother with the ice wall or the dragon.
There is always a champ icebrood wolf with mega hit points that spawns during the final sequence. I concentrate on the vets, but it often finds me cos I am dealing a lot of damage. With the zerg down at the dragon, there are never enough players on the ridge to deal with it.
If more people ignored the dragon and stayed back to farm the spawns, they would get more, and probably better loot, than from the chest. The dragon is not going anywhere, and when it dies before you kill off the spawns, the spawns disappear and you lose the potential loot,
I don’t understand why more people haven’t figured this out yet ..

-Yes. Oh god, Yes. Up the difficulty. Make them unpredictable. I’ve killed so many dragons, I can pretty much anticipate what is going to happen next.
-Sort-of. If there is a way to make Exotics drop more, I’m interested, but I’m not interested if EVERYONE is going to get an exotic. Just increase the drop rate a little bit and we’re good to go.
Nearly 16 (minus a few because of server resets) dragons a day this past week for me (Only because I’m writing my final paper for the semester @ college and I can camp dragons more readily), since Monday. Nearly 64 dragons, and not a single one has dropped an exotic. The exotics I received were from previous weeks. Really though, nearly 64 dragons and not a single exotic… I’ll bet when I finally do get one, it will be a kitteny piece of armor and only sell for 2-3 gold.
Hmm, I’ve never gotten far enough off course from my personal story to come across a dragon event, so all the dragons I saw in the game were the dragon lieutenant on Claw Island and Zhaitan. I wanted to take world exploration nice and slow so the enjoyment of discovery lasts longer, but that intention is kind of mute now. :P
Every day at least 2 dragons, but every time I wonder why I bother, because all I ever get are blues and very very rarely a green. (I had 1 yellow and never an orange in maybe 30 fights total)
But I like the dragon fights much more than dungeon fights, so I keep trying and hoping they gonna fix the loot drops.
Sometimes.
Eventually.
Hopefully in time before Im getting too bored to wait for it.
Killed the one in Sparkfly just yesterday. Reward was crap but it’s still kind of a fun fight so, eh, why not.
Never even heard of the dragons. Is there somewhere you can go to find out more about what you’re talking about?
I kill the dragons daily as well as quite a few of my guildys. There fun and somedays drops are nice including exotics. i have gotten 2 exotics from Tequatl The Sunless.

Your personal story does only lead you to about 40-50% of the areas of the world. Plenty of space to hide from players that focus on the story. :P

I only do them when i semi-afk at the game. And at jormag i just farm his crystals. Funny thing is on some events it is more profitable to farm event and fail it than complete the task. Claw of Jormag spawns crystals ~2 minutes, mobs can drop Corrupted Lodestones + other craft mats, but the dragons chest drop ~10 silver in sum. Same with Temple of Grenth, it is more profitable to farm minions then fail it and start again. It is how the game designed. LoL.
When mobs dont drop anything – nobody wants to spend 30 minutes for 10 silver.

Nice. I am trying to avoid learning too much about laters zones (I’m only level 25…), but you just got me excited now.
I usually goof around in Dungeons with my friends, but if we notice a dragon is up, we often bop on over and kill it.
‘cause dragons need killin’.
Havent killed dragons in over a month even before I took my break from the game.
Sadly on kaineng when I am on no-one else is. The dragon timers for my server are not even updated cause at best there is like 2-3 people at the dragon and we can never kill it with just us. So the server pretty much ignores the dragons now.
Stat increase = gear grind.
Gear grind = no money from me ever again.

I participate to those events regularly and I just got 3 rares wednesday on two different dragons, so it is not an urban legend, it really happens (rarely), but no sign of exotics or lodestones so far :-)

haven’t for awhile, but will again now some due to the above tool xD
used to kill at least 4 a day but in the past month i completely abandoned that waste of time. i got enough blues to open a Walmart, no more, thanks useless dragons.

last week i ran the dragons hard in between other things i was doing . I killed The Shatterer Tequatl the Sunless and The Claw of Jormag 3 times each in one day and ended up with 7 rares and 1 exotic bow from Sunless. I have never gotten a lodstone but i have gotten quite a few rare orbs. I sometimes will get 2 rares from one dragon but thats not often. In the end watching a group of people work together in a world event and get the job done is really fun and the chest rewards at the end are icing on the cake.. at least for me..

I don’t do it at all anymore they were only fun the first time
Jormag is a great farming spot atm.
I do if I run across an event…but I don’t camp the dragons spawn sites.

To the best of my memory, I’ve never even gotten a yellow from any of the dragon chests. So I only do Jormag now if I happen to be in Frostgorge farming when he comes up. Greens and blues for me every time.
