I always though this bloodstones were a finite large slabs of stone shown in some animations during gw1 missions.

Then in gw2 bloodstone dust came from left and right, making me craft bloodstone bricks with them.

Then bloodstone fen blew up and there was quite more bloodstone in the map i could ever imagine. Bloodstone elementals also appeared…idk how thats possible but okay.

We create bloodstone backpacks and weapons.

And now in the trailer we see “canons” shooting blocks of bloodstones at divinitys reach (is that a bad thing? i thought bloodstone contains magic and can empower someone)

Honestly how much bloodstone is there in the world?

5 MASSIVE chunks around in places, not to mention bloodstone magic, which uses the inherent power of a bloodstone (not the power contained in a bloodstone but the basic power of the stone itself, mind you. Hence it’s being red no matter what), which doesn’t require a physical bloodstone, but simply exposure to it at some point. We can see that even centaurs (who are, as much as you can say about an entire race, magically inadept) using bloodstone magic in the new trailer. This is also a sign of how much magic is leaking out…

I understand that there are multiple bloodstones, but we kinda only discovered and blew up the one in maguuma. The other 4 should be “inactive” as the one we are seeing now was before season 3, or back in the gw1 days

So you are saying that because of the blowing up part, the basic power of the bloodstone is “attaching” it self to other normal rocks?

Judging by Apprentice Kasandra’s notes (60 Scion, 1325 AE, specifically), it seems that magic from the bloodstone is able to manifest itself in a physical form. Perhaps the question isn’t how much bloodstone there is initially, but instead how much magic is being released and turned into bloodstone crystals.

Unless I’m mistaken, bloodstones were never “inactive” just that we didn’t know how to use the magic from it. However, also need to know these bloodstones contained enough magic to send the dragons to sleep EARLY! And it’s been seeping out

so let me see if i understood this correctly.

1) Bloodstone magic can manifest t self in a physical form that looks like red rocks, and aparently theres an abundance of it
2) I thought the purpose of the bloodstones was to contain and hide whatevers left or magic away from the dragons not to serve a meal for the dragons to put them to sleep early?
3) I thought one would require that key bloodstone in order to unlock the other bloodstones magic. apparently we just had to blew it up? and now its leaking and manifesting it self everywhere for everyone to take its power.

I’m well out of my lore league now, but I think that’s close.

The five bloodstones are large grey rock slabs. They were built to contain magic. Abaddon released some magic (possibly from one or more of them), and Doric asked the gods to contain the magic again (so we know they have access keys, which the Priory also found).

When the magic is released, it seems to turn into red bloodstone crystals. Blowing up the large bloodstone slab expedited the process.

It forced them to sleep early because they couldn’t absorb enough magic to stay awake, the world was empty of magic again. It was locked away from them. The dragons sleep when magic is gone.

There’s as much bloodstone as the devs want. It’s a game.

Seriously though, I used to be a lore buff, loved it. Then I realized that the devs use the lore in this game as more of a suggestion than a constraint. Even when they do remember their own lore it’s used rather loosely when it’s convenient.

So don’t read much into it. Kinda sad to say that, I know, but what else do you do when the devs don’t take their own lore very seriously.

tbh most of the lore i got from gw1 was just a background story, and then you would play trough the missions that have parts of the lore in them. There are also a few side quests here and there which tackle some of the more important lore but most of them are (while important and big) shoved in some remote place.
A perfect example would be me going in a remote out of the way irrelevant fishing town only to get a quest from a random dude to kill tengu and bring back some books, after that i am to go to the temple of the ages and tell a priest that she is a descendant of the royal blood (Salma).

In gw2 i see kinda the same thing happening. There is established lore thats going on in the background, lore that was used to build the world we play ing. We go trough a personal/living world story which has parts of the lore in it. But thats about it.

I just wish there was some more continuity. Mysteries and unanswered lore is fine. Speculation is fun. But using lore and stretching it is kinda eh.

Lots of fun nonetheless

basically your saying once we kill 1 elder dragon you have no choice but to kill them all since they absorb each others magic.

im bad at sarcasm

From episode one of LWS3, we learn that the White Mantle’s work with the fragment they had was not only growing, quickly but have sprouted formations of bloodstone crystal outside of the main piece. The explosion then scattered pieces all over the world thus infecting the bloodstone crazed critters.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

I will start by saying that Bloodstones are just magic that already existed in this world, but was sealed into bloodstones. When bloodstones are destroyed, that magic just goes back into the natural world, like it always was. Theoritcally the amount of bloodstones can be countless until magic no longer exists, but atm only 5….or 4

Okay, so i probably got confused the 4-5 bloodstones with the red rocks seen everywhere nowdays?

Each dragon could only absorb the magic that belonged to them, via the orbs. Death orb, fire orb, plant orb, etc. when we killed an elder dragon, no dragon held that orb, so other dragons could snatch up the magic. The bloofsgones worked similar. Locking the magic away where the dragons can’t touch it. When there’s no more magic in the world to eat, they sleep until magic is replenished. The magic deeps from the dragon’s and back into the world, they wake up, gobble it back, sleep, seeps out, gobbles up, etc. now that the magic in the bloodstone was exploded and released, the dragons, now used to the shorter cycle, could be awake for longer, as there’s more magic to gobble up! So we need to trap the magic again, to force them to sleep sooner, or keep killing them until we have one super dragon to fight…… remember the dragons are as strong as the gods were if my lore holds true

There are 4 domains in the form of bloodstone runeslabs and a fifth keystone slab. What you see as red crystal already existed back in gw1. It is undefined. But probably it’s leaking magic that crystallises. And due to its chaotic nature might still have life essence in it
