Q:
How much does it cost now to craft to lv80?
A whole heck of a lot.
According to gw2crafts.net, it would cost you about 78g to craft all profesions to 400. Some things to note, though… it won’t take you all the way to 80 because crafting to 400 gives you roughly 7 levels instead of 10 now (they adjusted it so that it’d give you 10 levels crafting to 500, but not all profesions can go to 500 yet), but since it’s your 9th character you probably have experience scrolls from character birthdays that can take you to level 20 before you start crafting. Just by crafting, as it is right now, you can get up to level 65 (3*10 + 5*7)
Another thing to take into account, again since this is your 9th character you most likely have been playing for a while, so you’ll probably have most materials needed making it significantly cheaper (I leveled leatherworking, weaponcrafting, artificing, huntsman and cooking not too long ago and barely had to spend money since I already had most materials). Check the guides on that site, it gives you a list of materials you should have before starting, just see that you have everything before you start (and buy what you don’t have).
However, if you really want to level up just by crafting, it’ll take you a big of money… leveling up artificing, weaponcrafting and huntsman from 400 to 500 would cost you about 531g (again, according to gw2crafts.net)
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.

The cheapest way wouldn’t discover most of the recipes.

I guess it depends on when you start it? 2 of my characters I got them to 400 crafting in Tailoring on one and Armorsmith on the other. Both of the characters started at level 2, and by the time I was done with getting them to 400 in crafting, they were More than 3/4s the way to level 13.
I just noticed that they changed the XP too, few months ago I levelled a couple of characters to 80 with crafting and it was a lot cheaper and easier than it will be now. Just tried it and spent around 80g getting them all to 400, including the lvl 20 scroll I was only about 75. Not worth going above 400 for levelling purposes, unless you have plenty of spare gold.
Best thing to do is to get some gold together level up to lvl 24 and then craft to 80. leveling when you’re a low level is really easy.

Its much easier to level in starterzones if your already higher level and have 3-stats gear
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Seriously, they didn’t have to change the exp gain from 10 to 7. I just realize that yesterday after I used my exp scroll to lvl20, I craft chef to 400 and only ended up level 27. I’ve already max leveled 6 characters thru crafting and this one just makes it more expensive that it already is.
Crafting was to easy .. they wanted it to be more “challenging” so now we have the crafting hardmode :p

Can you provide a link to where anyone from ArenaNet said they wanted crafting "…to be more “challenging” so now we have the crafting hardmode"?
I would like to read about why they wanted this change.

given the :p emote in his post, I would say there is much sarcasm in his post.
I think you are correct.
This was how I did it. With a mix of mats on-hand that I had in the bank, as I recall, it was around ~60g to craft 1-80.
