How not to Glide?
Hit space bar again to undeploy it, then just before you hit the ground deploy it again, that’s the quickest way to move directly down.

Just tap the space bar quickly and take your hand off it. That’s how you don’t glide. If you hold the space bar down too long you’ll end up gliding.
It’s worth noting that, whatever years of other games has taught you, in GW2 you jump the same height whether you hold the button or tap it lightly. It’s a hard habit to break, but you don’t have to worry about getting the most out of your jump while also fighting the glider.

Depending on your Gliding mastery, you can accelerate (hold forward movement button while gliding) and decelerate (hold backward movement button while gliding, or tap backward movement once to activate constant deceleration).
These can improve your gliding precision.

It’s really the jumping puzzle type jumping from rock to rock that gets me (puzzles/fractals/vistas.) I overjump because I’m using the L/R mouse to move forward and I can’t resist pressing rather than tapping the space bar. It really is unlearning about 15 years of doing it differently.
