How often you die
Well, you can type /deaths in-game and see how many times that character has died since creation.
i would love to know how often i die ALOT, (elemetalist btw)
If you want to know how often you die type /deaths in chat. Then you can type /age and figure out how many times you have died per hour sort of. An average of sorts I suppose. Hard to tell for sure because of time you spent in cities and what not.

You say that like you can’t die in cities

Sure I do it all the time from being dumb and falling. Sometimes I jump to my death on purpose during RP. My Mesmer doesn’t really like himself so he is a bit self-destructive at times.
My Ranger is fast approaching 10,000 deaths.
Not bad in a year…that’s like 27’ish deaths per day…
Anyone beat that or do I win?
I don’t die as much now, as I used to on my ele. I’m much better at dodging (surprised I haven’t broken that button yet, putting my finger through my keyboard smashing it haha), using my defensive skills (rolls, pushes, blinds, etc), and simply not over aggroing (Leeeeeeroy!). Still a little miffed about the 5 foe aoe limit (really Anet, wtf), but I manage.
I tend to die more on my Ranger right now, but I haven’t learned how to best utilize and synergise my skills as yet, and well…dodging is limited. sigh Sometimes I feel like I should change my guild name to ‘Bodies R Us’ XD
lightning reflexes (edit) is a wonderful thing.

/deaths is funny to look at sometimes…
2451hrs played for 6597 deaths and counting
Now the fun part how many of those are following Commanders off cliffs // from jps? ;D
Kaiji Ruko – 80 Ranger, Revanat Shadowdeath – 80 Necromancer
Ranger (only character).
1277 hours and 990 deaths. (.77 deaths per hour).
1 death every 77 minutes.

I’d say I was doing good until these recent events. Those kitten Aetherblade strikers! Stun stun – 4 beams of lightning – bzzt dead.

Those are actually pretty funny, I like them. Get a group of 2-3 or solo an aetherblade event and you can get those and not shake them off.
Ranger(lv80) 466 deaths in 568 hours | 0.82 deaths/hour
Warrior(lv80) 288 deaths 166 hours | 1.73 deaths/hour
Elemental(lv32) 74 deaths in 45 hours | 1.64 deaths/hour
lightning reflexes (edit) is a wonderful thing.
I just re-added that to my bar (skill 9 in fact lol) last night. Forgot all about it.
I was doing great on my new level 78 Guardian with only 5 Deaths…..
Then came Kuratii the Cruel, I have over 200 deaths from him alone
Does the /deaths take into account deaths from falling? I love me some cliffs and jumping puzzles and often die from jumping just to experience the fall. Afraid my results might be skewed lol…
but 291 deaths in 401 Hours, 7 Minutes.
I’d have to check again, but the last time I checked I didn’t have any characters who had reached 100 deaths. This is mainly because I prefer to flee over dying and I avoid WvW outside of map completion.
Side trivia: Using the following rates of..
1s 10c per repair
and
$0.55US per gold (via gw2spidy as of today)
According to the number given by the GW2 article, Risen Thralls have been responsible for 1.24million dollars (US) worth of gold being removed from the GW2 economy over the past year.
3,328h over 368 days
911 deaths
0.27 ratio
My guardian: Level 67, played 86h and 21m. Died…. 158 times. I’m bad at this game and I feel bad lol

You really shouldn’t. It’s very easy to die early in the game. (And Guardians have arguably the worst downed skills of any class.)
As you progress and learn the game mechanics well, you’ll die less. And then you’ll meet Lupi and Alpha the first time… :P
My main, a thief.
566 hours, 368 days (hurray, happy birthday!)
1,263 deaths
Most of my character die lots, particularly my thief.
However I always liked Diablo hardcore and the Ironman challenge that went on in WoW for a while so I set myself the challenge to see how far I could level a character without dieing, no crafting and only using equipment I pick up. Needless to say I haven’t got out of single figures yet, but it is fun and when you know that if you die you delete the character you learn to play a whole lot more carefully
As much as i can in wvw. If your not dieing your doing something wrong in wvw like playing like a coward 1v zerg only!
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
I die a little more inside with each new LS patch.
But for real… not too often. Sometimes I fall off a cliff or something or graciously slide down some rocks to my death.
Hours played is not representative of how much you actually play IMO. Lots of people idle in cities/HOM lobby much more compared to the amount of time spent in combat so seeing 1 death per hour played(simple deaths/age) is more like 3-5 deaths from time in actual combat.
“Death is just a part of life.” (Mama Gump…I think)
Actually, I die a lot but not as much as I used to. I have learned a lot about the game mechanics, specific encounters and types of mobs, and about my characters. I die more at lower levels than higher levels. My ele died the most…my ranger the least. At level 80, my necro and my mesmer die the least.
Will have to check out the /deaths thing…would be interesting.
29d/159h necromancer 0.182
49d/223h second ele 0.220
76d/306h guardian 0.250
166d/470h thief 0.353
364d/707h engineer 0.373
410d/677h first ele 0.606
493d/1178h warrior 0.720
609/1247 gw1 warrior 0.488
143/261 gw1 ele 0.548
Unfortunately all these numbers are very misleading. On the one hand there are many afk deaths. On the other hand there are many more afk hours + not really afk but there isn’t really anyway to die from standing around and chatting in LA.
It also implies GW1 was easier but that isn’t really true either.

I wonder if the game keeps track of the time of each deaths for every character and who/what killed them. That would be interesting info to pull once they add in the authenticated API access.
Also …
20244620 deaths
/ 8 deaths per repair canister
* 70 gems per canister
* 0.0125 USD/gem
2.2m
20244620 deaths
/ 8 deaths per repair
* 1148 per 7 broken/damaged items
/ 1 00 00 convert to gold
* $0.55 dollars / gold
“only” $159k :P
Repair canisters look like a very crappy deal but I guess they are more convenient.

Died 0 times in 607 hours on my Elementalist.
Died 2,421 times on my Ranger in 214 hours- too little dps of course.
Just once. Has happened yet though.
I’ve died a LOT.
The funniest was a portal that somebody put in LA as a joke…it ported you high above the city, where you promptly fell to your death. Sadly, (or hilariously, depending on your PoV…) there were like 20 dead bodies at the splat point
Most of the time, tho, its’ my own fault for aggroing too many mobs, dodging off the nearest cliff, missing the diving goggles jump off point, or simply walking into situations that are way out of my league. Note to self: Don’t try to get a level 15 area skill point when you’re level 5…
Hmm, i have 9 chars, all races and 1 of each class but 2 of rangers. here’s my /deaths summary and related hours payed (all have 100% world except my latest ranger. She’s at 98% atm)
Mesmer, human (my first char and most played)
Deaths: 638 – hrs played: 927
Thief, human
Deaths: 278 – hrs played: 348
Engineer, Asura
Deaths: 231 – hrs played: 388
Elementalist, human
Deaths: 218 – hrs played: 371
Ranger, Charr
Deaths: 209 – hrs Played: 457
Necromancer, Sylvari
Deaths: 256 – hrs played: 424
Guardian, Norn
Deaths: 380 – hrs played: 453
Warrior, Sylvari
Deaths: 149 – hrs played: 347
Ranger, Norn
Deaths: 14 – hrs played: 247
These figures were taken just today prior to posting this.
Only 672 times on Ele for the 1400~ hrs played. O.o
I definitely have moved to barely dying at all in my daily routine and otherwise. I have learned well when to retreat or use my “oh kitten” buttons. :P lol
Now really though, there should be a /downed. Then we’ll really see. :P
I only checked with my oldest character. Ranger for 197 deaths at 274 hours.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
i would love to know how often everyone dies, i die ALOT, (elemetalist btw)
I Chucked my elementalist in the Bin after two weeks , she seemed to have a death wish,
(it was nothing to do with the fact that I didn’t know how to use it ;-) )
My Ranger is fast approaching 10,000 deaths.
Not bad in a year…that’s like 27’ish deaths per day…
Anyone beat that or do I win?
I may have you beat. I’ll have top check. I suck at this game, plus I can’t resist a good leap to my death.

LOL I sometimes go on the walkway above the bank in Lions arch and try to splat on a player standing below.
Ranger is a funny class. It can easily be one of the most survivable classes, but it’s also easy to screw up especially while learning.
^ So true, i don’t die much in pve unless i get zerged down by running by everything in sight or fail to pay attention to x boss/pve mechanics. Though i still LOVE falling to my death off cliffs / in jps cause platforming -.-". But yea i usually only die a lot via pvp/WvW now.
Kaiji Ruko – 80 Ranger, Revanat Shadowdeath – 80 Necromancer
Hmm I’ll need to look at it when I get home. But I it depends on what I’m doing. I don’t usually die until I’m trying to hurry and end up getting overwhelmed wherever I am.
On my Guardian which is the main character I play I have:
Deaths: 54
Hours played: 400
Deaths per hour: 0.14
This would seem much less than many posting here. I have all the professions at 80 and others have not fared as well. I honestly don’t like to die and take pains to avoid it. That said, I think Anet is fine with death. Watching livestreams I’ve seen Anet people dying left and right and they don’t seem concerned at all. Perhaps that’s why they can consider one-shot instagibs from the particle blur to be a proper scale of difficulty or a fun element of gameplay.

Not many if any PvE events (gauntlet maybe?) can compare to the amounts of death that you will have in WvW especially as a roamer.
Don’t know if my /death will beat that but I bet I’m close.
“How often you die?”
Every time I see the latest patch notes.

Rocking Wizard Wars until this mess of a game is fixed…
Died 0 times in 607 hours on my Elementalist.
Screenshot? If it was your first character I refuse to believe you’ve never died once on an ele. But, I may be wrong, so.

Yes, 90-95% of those deaths were in sPvP or WvW.
Also, if I had to guess which other class killed me the most…I would say thief without a shadow of a doubt. But that’s okay cause I kill loads with my thief too and my thief very, very rarely dies…
My first character I created and played was a Necromancer. He has 3,223 deaths and counting in 1,113 hours played.
That’s about 1 death every 15 minutes?
He tends to die a lot due to the lack of stability, when he goes to collect orichalcum at the node where the champion karka sits. My guardian doesn’t seem to have that problem though.
I just passed 60k kills in WvW today and I have 3,591 deaths. That’s 162.2 kills per day since headstart access and 9.7 deaths per day. I’d say it’s a fantastic ratio, since it doesn’t sound bad at all when broken down like that >_>
I have 3,223 hours and 1 minute played. Fanceh! I’ve played an hour for each death the person above me has xD
If you ain’t die’n, you ain’t try’n.
…spelling and grammatical errors for effect only….
I haven’t died for like 3 days….
…mostly because I’ve done nothing but sit in LA because I’m too discouraged to play.
Died 0 times in 607 hours on my Elementalist.

I guess depends what u been doing in those hours. You could just park in LA the whole time lol. Coz there’s no way you would have survived that long if u played in WvW, or even completed some of the dungeons, like Arah!
