EDIT: I was watching kripparrian’s video again today. because there was some talk in the comments about him. this is what he said:
If you discover an exploit while you are streaming, you are permanently banned.
(this is what happened to him)
On top of that, it wasn’t even an exploit. He made 8 gold of 20K karma when the game was out for 5 days. You can’t know how much karma is worth by day 5.
And on top of that, you get only a 72 hour ban if you botted back then. (Stated by anet themselfs)
Twitch can be misleading though, especially with old console games. You might think “WTF, Super Mario 64 has THAT many viewers?” but there’s a whole speed running community around old console games, and usually it’s 1 or 2 streams that are attracting all the viewers.
But back to the main point: GW2 isn’t interesting to watch.
What I don’t understand is why ArenaNet doesn’t wise up about how great Twitch is as an advertising platform to attract people to their game, go contact the Twitch guys, sign up for their API, and implement easy streaming built into GW2 like Call of Duty recently did. If anyone could just click a button while in game and instantly stream to Twitch, there would be a lot more streams.
Yet still. Guild Wars 2 isn’t interesting to watch.
Personalities have a lot to do with it too. Kripparrian was attracting a lot of viewers in the early weeks of GW2, but he stopped playing after his ban.
Because Anet does not keep their word and changes everything all the time .
I really feel i can not even trust theses devs anymore they make just horriable chioces in which way this game is going.
I watched 13 people leave my guild tonite to back to our old game because of broken promises and by tomm i expect to see more if that happens i will have no choice to follow.
If GW2 here you mean is Guild Wars 2… well it’s not too popular, frankly. BUT if you mean Glitch Wars 2… everyone know!

I still watch Kripparrian He plays PoE now. Sux he got banned for mistakes of the devs.
The why question is easy to answer. And the answer is essentially the same as the answer to why GW2 will be less popular on 2/26 than it was on 2/25.
Anet started with an awesome premise for the game, a truly new MMO. It launched a fantastic MMO that largely delivered on their vision—to the extent a new release could. Beginning with the 11/15 they changed their vision and trajectory. Each patch is a step away from the original compelling vision for a new and truly different MMO. Were they on the course they originally charted, you wouldn’t need to ask the question.

Thank you for the list of other games to play now that I have quit.
I was so busy grinding in this game that I didn’t have time to go have fun doing these sorts of things that actually reward with fun times.

Just to many broken promises Anet just to many.
Counting the days to Neverwinter man, know the feeling. Last patch lost the GM the founded my guild because his main is a necro, I’m an engi and even we arent suffering as much as the necros are right now sheesh.
I would not doubt it if we lost quite a few people simply because they didn’t use a PTR to properly test this patch and reset the dailies multiple times, people in my guild and on my server were all enraged. When it reset for me right before I could finish I just plain logged out I was so disgusted.
Why are those other games more popular? Somewhere along the way after launch AN lost their connection to the public, Not sure why but they did. They’ve been making decisions as if none of them have ever played an mmo before both in regards to the way the game is designed overall and with implementing things that history should tell them would fail miserably because other gaming companies have tried those very same things only to alienate their own players.

How does that list matter? Cyclocross being less popular than soccer doesn’t make cyclocross a bad sport. Quite the opposite actually given how fundamentally boring soccer is … the most popular sport in the world. Yea…

I don’t know man. Windows is the most popular OS even though it’s arguably the worst between OS X and Linux. Heineken is incredibly popular worldwide even though it’s well known as a bad beer. WoW is the most popular MMO even though everyone agrees it’s bland at best and boring at worst. Whether or not you think Lady Gaga makes good music is irrelevant, she sure is queen of Twitter. No one likes facebook yet it’s the most popular of all antisocial media. And why is that airhead the most popular girl in school?
The majority of humans are sheep. People tend to flock together, which makes things popular because they are popular. Quality is often not a relevant argument. As such, popularity coming from being a good game, is a non sequitur. More precise, it is an argumentum ad populum and a logical fallacy.
