How to alleviate silk scrap prices
Has been mentioned many times before and is not needed.
Silk supply and demand will find its equilibrium way faster than you think.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Silk drops A LOT, it is very common, that is why before the ascended armor update NPC would pay more for silk scrap than on TP.
As Wanze said, supply and demand equilibrium will be reach soon enough.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Yep, it’s actually better to sell your silk now and wait a while if you aren’t in a hurry to get your ascended armor. Wait for the price to drop back down and then buy back silk you need and keep the profit.
Fairly simple really, remove it from loot and make it a gathered resource like wood + metal, same for leather too, just have them as animal based nodes (sheep for wool). then people can get the resources require in a specific manner. The supply is then as a result of folk actually harvesting it not a byproduct of mob killing (’cept salvage).
I had actually mentioned something sort of along these lines in the CDI thread, since they were talking about fabrics. Let me go grab it, then I’ll paste it here as food for thought.
Edit:
There is a discrepency in the game in the options of acquisition between wood, ore, cloth, and leather. For all 4 we can get them from bags and from salvaging; however, ore and wood can also be gathered directly. Honestly, to be consistent, cloth and leather should also have these options.
For cloth:
Jute – Is made from a vegetable fiber. Add some plant nodes to the world, which can be harvested with the existing scythes, which give us jute scraps when harvested.
Wool – Comes from various animals. Technically ‘wool’ is from sheep, but goats and rabbits would suffice too. This might require an additional harvesting tool (sheers), although the scythe might work, but sheep and rabbits exist in the game already. Maybe make some of them into harvest-able ‘nodes’ and let us sheer some wool scraps from them.
Cotton – Also a plant. Would work similarly to jute.
Linen – Again, also a plant. Comes from the flax plant, so again could work like jute.
Silk – Comes from insect cocoons, typically the best known comes from a moth, but fro game purposes there are any number of furflies, and such which could potentially offer ‘cocoons’ for collecting.
Gossamer – The definition of this is ‘a spider’s web’ or ‘a very light, delicate material,’ so let us harvest it from certain spider’s webs.
I’m not sure which gathering tool would work best for silk and gossamer, but other than that and wool, everything else would work with existing game tools. This would help increase the quantities of cloth in the game, and give us a guaranteed means of acquisition.
It has been mentioned that the sickle would work for silk and gossamer, though perhaps with a slight change to gathering animation.

Or they could just adjust it back down to 2 scraps = 1 bolt…

As a guy not trying to craft ascended armor, I say no.
Im making 2 gold a day from this every day and I sure prefer that than having to sell a full stack 250 to a vendor for a mere 17.5 silver just because the darn bank couldnt take it anymore and it was bothering me not being able to deposit on collectibles.

Assuming there is a problem with silk to begin with…
I don’t know how long this Ascended craze will last but I made over 4g from a full stack last night. From my non-Ascended crafting perspective I’m not too unhappy by it all.

go the shears
Dolyaks!
I wonder why they didn’t put this sort of collection in at the start. It seems pretty obvious now that you’ve come up with it. They must have thought of it as well.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Assuming there is a problem with silk to begin with…
It was mentioned by one of the devs, recently, that cloth seems to be out of balance with the other materials. Thus part of the reason why damask is so much more expensive than other ascended materials to purchase. It was said that they were looking into ways to ‘fix’ that. Which prompted the discussion I had with my husband on the matter…
The recipe silks needed in requires 100 while the leather equivalent only requires 50. Step one would be to drop the silk requirement down to 50 or 25 since damask is still going to have a higher demand.
if things don’t change, the price of silk (and other cloth materials) will not drop for a loooonnnnggg time, and will never get anywhere close to the price of mats of the same tier i.e. mithril, thick leather
silk is not gatherable (can only be salvaged or bought off tp); you need 3 silk scraps per bolt (but only 2 mithril ore per ingot), 100 bolts per spool/damask (50 for others)
3 damask per insignia, variable damask per armor piece, 6 armor pieces, and some characters might need more than 1 armor set
and the total numbers: 10800 silk scraps for a set of ascended light armor, 7200 for medium armor (note medium armor only needs 2700 thick leather for a set), 7500 for heavy armor (only 1600 mithril ore per set)
like, seriously, how could you not expect a “discrepancy”?
I don’t see the problem. Silk will fall in price as people complete their ascended armor sets. it has just barely been a month since ascended armor was released. I think they need to wait at least 3 months before making any additional changes.
My bet is that silk will be back down to ~1s by next month.
Has been mentioned many times before and is not needed.

ep hearing that since silk started skyrocketing. So far, it looks that the equilibrium, when found, will be ridiculously high.

^ this.
I remember selling stacks to NPCs simply because in the TP I’d lose money with the listing fee.
I have some 3k now staked away hoping the price raises even more for legendary armor but I have a feeling I’ll regret not selling it now.
