How to expand home instances
being able to set a preferred home instance and then adding a home instance door in the GH as well, would be awesome way to link these two.
Make it feel like an actual home, instead of that map you visit to farm each day.
Put in a scribing station and make scribing work in there like the guild halls.
ANet may give it to you.
Good ideas, good to know I’m one of many players who fantasize about this.
Only to play the devil’s advocate: If players are placing decorations in their home instances, how does Anet safely populate these instances with NPCs? E.g. how can they ensure that Ridhais will appear without collision issues?
What, you’ve never heard of a bubble suit?

Thank you, I now have coffee sprayed onto my keyboard .
I wonder how placement works with the 5 different Home Instances? Either placement is dictated by ArenaNet, or only 1 Home Instance could be decorated.

If you mean placing decorations, it would certainly have to be done on an instance by instance basis.
At the very least I’d like to see the home instance start to turn into a trophy room. Have a bookshelf with all of the books we’ve collected. Have something that showcases how many minitatures you have, another for your titles, another for how many weapon/armor skins you have, possibly one for your PvP and WvW rank, place to show off which Raid bosses you’ve killed etc….
Inculpatus cedo has a good point. So my human characters could enjoy their new home, but my asura would never ever see it? Lame. Or, worse I’d think, I would have to decorate each race’s home instance? Double lame?
1 throw the gh decorations system in home instances
2 give us the ability to build our own jouse somewhere in the home instance for a kitten tone of gold
3 ………….
4 profit
(a step ahead would be to link various ppl together in home imstances and make it look like a neigborhood)

i mean, they seem to be able tl pump out new maps every 2 to 3 months surelt tweakimg already made instances a little so houses could be made in them wouldnt be so big of an issue ^^
Do you mean an instance within the instance? Not sure there would be room for a good-sized house in the Sylvari Home Instance. But maybe…
Still, would every ‘house’ look exactly the same, regardless of race? If not, there would be the same issue with placement of items.

yes and it would be different for each home instance themed for each race

Apparently, there’s a lot more effort involved in releasing a new map than starting with an old one and “tweaking”. (They’ve made comments to that effect a few times.)
I’ve nothing against improved home instance. Neither do I have anything to say in favor of them — I’d just as soon any efforts to improve housing go towards guild halls, not personal instances that lots of people never see.
Yeah because everyone gets to experience or build a well decorated guildhall. Because its a thing that one man can do alone and it doesnt require the capital and effort of an entire guild to build. Yes for sure that will be seen by more ppl rather than a personal instance that everyone has access to, the cost is normalised to that of 1 person and everyone has complete control over how they will make it. Oh and ppl can invite others to show them their own instances. No, way less ppl will get to see and play with it. Definitely. Because when someone is told they can condribute to build a guild hall or they can decorate their own house everyone will pick the former.
Going back to the origin of this thread, I think what the OP is really asking for is a new place out in the world to make a “home instance.” Anet needs to keep control of what we now have as Home, since story happens there.
If there was a place in each starter zone that could be instanced, that would give room for farm fields, perhaps a small lake, etc., which sounds more like what the OP is hoping for. Just like the Homes now, each could have a flavor relative to each race, but initially empty and ready for the player to mold as desired.
Then, any character on your account could use and interact with it, rather than human-in-human, charr-in-charr, etc.
To me, it still doesn’t seem worth the effort.
Well… If you think about it, many things in GW2 are cosmetic and for personal enjoyment. Things like armor or weapons can be shown off, but IMHO, the one who will derive the most pleasure out of your fancy bling will probably be yourself.
In that same vein, I think being able to pimp up your home instance with nice stuff is probably going to be a hit for most people, since you don’t even have to be in a guild to decorate it (great for antisocial gamers!) It’ll also expand the usage of Scribing.
I really like the ideas suggested above. I feel that it would be nice if we could make expansions to the map – say a pre-programmed waterfall room or a pit of lava, where the usual NPC paths won’t enter.
Of course, I also like to fantasize about the day when they’ll add a Bank inside the home instance, so I don’t have to port back to LA to drop off mats when my inventory is full. Lol.
@Heraldusluminare.2946 — You do know that you can “deposit all” materials at any time from your inventory?

Exactly. Honestly I think Anet didnt do anything to the homeinstance for Xpac one because they were too busy. It would have made sense to drop a personal costomizable area along with a guild customizable area, but that’s a lot of work. I imagine Xpac 2 will have it, but idk. We have to wait and see.

The home instances are whole areas where resources, NPCs, and stories share your space. What would be nice is if each race/character could have just one house (preferably accessed from the racial home area, or even just a separate instance like entering a guild hall), where our trophies and collections are stored (like the hall of memorial idea) (account wide or personal depending on the nature of the house you can provide) and which could be further decorated by use of a Home-Scribe-interior-decorator skill. And which would allow visitors. With chairs we could /sit @ and beds to /lie @ and a kitchen to Chef small items in or a workbench to craft a few things on, without any NPC help. And maybe in game trophies which currently are good for nothing but selling to merchants could be recycled in the house workshop to make some raw materials? This way, eventually, Guild Wars will take over all the Sims market share
