I know leveling up quickly isnt the point of this game, and that you can do a lot of things at low levels that you can do at high ones but… I just hate being between the levels of 1 – 30. Leveling is always slow, I hate having to backtrack or go to other races starter zones too just to get to a decent level. I would like to save those zones for my other characters… Whenever I get out of a zone like the plains of asheford or something I’m always like 3 levels below what I need to be to enter the next zone at the minimum.

How on earth do you level up quickly? What is the best way to do this? Do you have trouble with the leveling system? Helpppp

Do you hate 1-30 in this game, or all games in general? If all games in general- I would suggest trying this one first. Normally I’m the same way, but 1-30 was most enjoyable to me. 40-80 made my eyes bleed.

If you have played this game to 80 already and just don’t want to do it again, I sympathize. In that case, the fastest way is to take your main and get some gold (OR buy gems and convert to gold), go buy all the mats you need for crafting and take a few crafts to about 250 or 260. I took a character from 38-80 in about 7 hours total doing this. Cost me ~30g.

I’ve leveled a lot of characters and I’ve always found that the fastest way to level is to do more than 1 starting zone, which is what you don’t want to do. If you don’t mind parking your character in their particular zone for a while, you can catch extra DEs and they help with leveling, but this approach is not what I consider fast.

Another possiblity is to craft early on, which will give you more levels quickly, but that involves farming resources or buying them off the TP, which is fine if you have some coin to work with. Or perhaps a few friends would be willing to run around with you so you can get things done faster and get more kills in general.

My /age on the character I’m working on now is a little over 16 hours. He’s level 38 without doing any crafting. That’s pretty fast. It’s an alt so I started him with some funds. But aside from the cost of bags I’ve been about breaking even so far. I’ve been vendoring greens, and salvaging blues/whites for crafting later – haven’t sold a single crafting material.

I guess I can kind of understand you not wanting to do other starting areas. But at the same time, except for a roleplay/immersion aspect of it, it matters little in the long run. Or are you worried about being bored redoing content on another character. Because you will eventually end up redoing content.

I doubt you’d get to 38 in the time I did doing this, but you could just repeat events in a starter area. it’s boring but effective. The norn area is great for events.

Just to give you an idea, these are the maps I’ve completed on the way to 38 thus far (in this order);

Queensdale, Caladon Forest, Plains of Ashford, Kessex Hills, Brisban Wildlands, Gendarran Fields, Snowden Drifts, Warfarer Foothills

Another reason I’ve leveled fast(ish) is because I’ve already done the content on other characters. I know what to do and where to go. Being a thief helps for movement and damage too, especially since I’ve been upgrading to masterwork gear at each interval, and just recently rare weapons at level 35. With 25 stacks of bloodlust as a glass cannon, dual pistols annihilates single targets, and shortbow makes short work of multiple targets.

You may experience things much differently on a different profession.

Since crafting is so expensive, I suggest not doing crafting prior to level 40 as getting to 40 is pretty easy compared to the 40-60 level gap. After 60, I feel it gets pretty easy again but some may argue that.

This is my 5th character I’ll get to 80 so I do have quite a bit of experience. It’s my 2nd thief. I like glass cannon ranged build for PvE and Dungeons specifically. But it’s horrible in WvW. I got sick of being squishy, or taking the time to swap gear/weapons/traits. So I said the heck with it, and made the 2nd thief.

Buying materials and leveling all crafting skills is the quickest method. Silly, imo, but fast.

Craft for great Justice!…and err speed leveling

Key thing to do here is Make your Main do all the legwork and get some ecto’s, sell them on TP and do dragon events+dungeons for the lame green/blue loot. Sell those to vendors, and after a while you should have enough gold to at least start on the crafting one. (around 4g to max crafting level IIRC)

Power-craft your wait to at least 35 so you can start running AC.

My main Guardian took ages to level to 80 because of the range>melee issue. Then I made a ranger and that took me all of 3 weeks playing on and off after work and on weekends. However, since then a few patches later and it’s taking me a bit longer that previously to level up.

just wait for the guesting to be implemented coz for sure that there will be one unoffical leveling server where lots of people from different server will congregate in and do chain dynamic events for leveling just like during the early months of the game.

Forgive me for being a huge noob. What are the real benefits of dungeons such as AC? I have one other account that is close to 80 that I never ran dungeons on so… I don’t know. Just how will they benefit me in the long run?

Crafting makes leveling very fast as has been said. But, the only way to do that is to buy mats and that gets very expensive gold-wise so you would need to invest $ to level this way. I found that DE’s are your friends for fast leveling beyond the normal hearts and gathering resources. You’ll notice in many areas there are chains of events and they can be completed many times for the xp and karma. Some areas I camp out for several quick levels just on the DE’s. On the whole I think they got leveling down in this game. I have 7 80’s and it always felt very fast to bring a character to 80. While you don’t want to grind mobs to level, you should be aware of mobs giving ‘exploration’ bonus in addition to the normal xp. The way this works is that the longer a mob remains in the world unmolested, the higher the exploration bonus. Some get high enough that killing a handful equals a dynamic event. Just be aware of mobs off the beaten path and kill one to test the xp. If the the bonus is high continue.

The benefits of dungeons are:

- Your 80 gets ~lvl80 gear in AC explore mode. In your case, at least you can sell that to vendors, or break them down for mats for your alt to craft when it gets to the right crafting level.

- Playing Exploration mode, gets you dungeon tokens after successfully completing it, which can be traded in, once you have enough, to get some rare gears. Some can be broken down for ecto’s which you can sell. (Helping further increase gold for speed-crafting with your alt)

- Playing with your lvl 35 will get them leveled up relatively fast. you’ll fill up near 70% of your bar alone from the final exp reward when you complete the dungeon.

Hope that helped

My leveling scheme…

All 5 beginner areas map complete takes you to around level 28-30.
If not 30 then Craft to 30. (Lots of guides on reddit for crafting to max with very little investment.)
Run AC story mode once every 2 hours while doing map completions until you hit level 35. Once at 35 run all 3 paths, use gw2lfg.com for grping. Space out your runs so that each path is 2 hours apart, can even run them under 2 hour mark for just 20 tokens but still decent exps.

Once you get this pattern down and are familiar with gw2lfg.com then wash and repeat with all the dungeons that become available at level 40, 50, 60, 70.

Following this way with a few maps complete can get you to 80 very fast in comparison to map completion only. I use this method for my alts i am leveling.

The key to all of this is gw2lfg.com, since Anet has dragged there feet making a dungeon finder you will waste loads of time trying to get a grp spamming in the dungeon map area or Lions Arch.

One thing, this will get very dull and make the game seem boring, i do it because it is the most lucrative way to level an alt, and for me the quickest.

Soooo many tokens . . ..

Run AC story mode once every 2 hours while doing map completions until you hit level 35.

Doing AC Story I’d avoid….I Rarely find a group for this, unless you’re looking out for the dungeon master title people. They are few and far-between otherwise. No-one really does story-modes anymore.

-Here is how i leveled up my necro really quickly.
-Do all the starting zones.
-Don’t miss any story quest, even if 2-3 levels higher (optional if the story is higher level).
-Level profession as you level, i leveled tailor till i could use the gear i made. Example, if you are level 10, keep leveling up your profession till you can make and use level 10 gear. I had bonus crafting exp from WvW since my server was in control of all battlegrounds.

Around level 40-50, i started leveling a second profession to 300, i took cooking. After leveling up with personal stories, few quests, and two professions, i gained around 10 levels in a day. In the end, i kept on doing personal story and leveling up my two professions. I hit level 80 without doing Orr apart from the areas around Fort Trinity.

Leveled from 40 to 80 in 3 days.
<Casual player who spent less time on leveling.

the easiest way i got to 80 was to get to 15 in starting area on my thief…after that saved up enough coin to craft to 30 – then AFTER that – had a lvl 80 friends plow me through my own story which returned most if not ALL of my cash AND got me crap tons of exp.

you could also do the grind thing =
explore ALL the maps and leave 1 little thing undone- do the next area same thing. go BACK and get ALL those "little last things " get map completion for THAT area (xp u gain is a percentage of what lvl u are anyway and how much you have). AND THEN finish off from lvl 75-80 in wvw/craft the rest with a booster (remember u get a percentage of what u have as xp ALREADY.

I agree pacing is a bit off, but not too bad.

Levelling is certainally not slow, and after level 30 i tend to treat the entire game as endgame as you have the majority of your abilities, with elite skill unlocked, just getting traits from the on.

My guardian hit 80 never having set foot south of lions arch. Just did the other zones to the north, a bit of wvwvw, and moderate crafting.

If you want to level fast, do everything, a range of activites will level you fastest, do pve for a zone, completion rewards are quite large, gather as it adds a fair amount of xp, craft as its quick easy xp using those mats you gathered. Jump into wvwvw, if you can get in a decent capping group its great xp, capping SM will almost cretainally give you a level right there, and you can flip camps and low level towers really quickly in a decent group.

i accept the crafting leveling but for that you need one or more characters at level 80
but another reasonable way is after you are level 20 the maps are staging whit 5 levels each and if you don’t care for the events every level is there about two times and the maps of lower levels are there about 5 times if you just do the waypoint the point and the hearts you are able to level quite fast

That said, there’s plenty of good information here, which is part of the reason why it’s so highly ranked, and why people keep returning to it and adding more current information!

I’m using it to rank up a Warrior past the starting zones (which I’ve done repeatedly on every other character so far).

Fastest way is to craft + zerg/karma train in wvw. Buying tombs of knowledge in spvp could easily and cheapily get you to 80 in a day but they took away glory.

After april 15th getting tombs of knowledge in spvp will still be a good way to level but no where near as good as before.

Also zerging in LS content like queens jubilee or watchwork invasions was a good way to level fast while making gold.

Ive gotten two characters to 80 with living story
2 to 80 in wvw
1 in spvp

No, 1 lvl/2 hrs is totally realistic – 1 level per hour is about par for a brand new character (since they dunno what DE’s are where).

The advice for crafting 40-60 is also legit. For me, it’s 50-60 that are so slow, but I can see the 40’s.

Mesmer has been my slowest leveler thus far because I went shatter and you just have to wait on the illusions to do their thing.
