So you have free character slots and want to make money out of them? Well, good, buy bags and use them for extra storage for your TP operations.

But for those who don’t want to bother with the TP, here’s how to mine the rich oricalcum in Cove.

1. Get your main to the Bloodtide zone. Near the middle there’s a heart vendor named Crusader Something. He sells account bound picks that let lvl 1 char to mine orichalcum. Get some for your lvl 1

2. Get a couple of block/deflect/stealth/speed skills unlocked on your lvl 1

3. Head to point Lion via LA

4. Swim all west, then all south from point Lion. Best unlock the SW point just in case

5. Head up north via the cliff between the young karkas and the solo lurker

6. Continue north, passing some young karka. It’s possible to avoid all aggro circles, but in case you get aggroed keep those in mind:
- the aggro circles might be bigger vs lvl 1s
- the key is to avoid the early ranged barrage; search your keybinding for a “look back” option and bind it (you should do this anyway); this will let you to move forward while keeping an eye on the karka; dodge/block/reflect all of the barrage
- if all else fails, do not forget that hitting escape and logging out to charscreen resets all your aggro – or simply ask nearby 80 for a bit of help
- karka champion: most server will have it pulled out to a safe distance; your goal is to get to the ori once…even if you die just stay there in primetime you will be rezzed in no time. Once in position, all you do before exhausting all the picks is log, quickly mine, deposit in bank via inventory, and logout.
- the best way to replace picks is via bank express

Smart, will do this later.

Don’t forget about Ash Legion Spy Kits which can be bought for karma. Can’t remember if they are soulbound/accountbound.

It’s easy to move thousands of karma to lowbies. But I thought all ori picks require lvl 60.

This is a sloppy written “guide” that doesn’t make coherent sense. Were you drunk writing this? The instructions and directions are so poorly expressed.

Yes, I spend all my orichalcum gains on dwarven ale.

Did you actually do this on one or more lvl 1s?

I first did it on a lvl 5 I wanted a utility skill but it was an overkill.

About Ash Legion – I believe they are soulbound and Im sure they dispel when trying to move. However, the run is easy; and even if you can’t make it you only need 1-2 karkas killed by an 80.

Note guys that it costs 600 karma for 25 picks.

That’s a pretty steep price, especially when you’re saving karma.

pretty cool, expect this to get nerfed soon. Ori are meant to be mined by lvl 60+, and can thus be seen as an exploit. Obviously not a game economy breaking one, but still… not intended.

Tested. Works. The only REAL trouble is actually getting there alive. It’s incredibly difficult. One COULD say it is an exploit, but isn’t that if the risk does not outweigh the cost and omfg let me tell you, you’re going to die in 1 hit. Everything… Attacks… You…

Basically, you’re looking at 30s per new character that you make if you plan on farming this for gold. OH: EDIT: I forgot to mention the 605 Karma that each stack of 25 mining picks cost… soo keep that in mind.

It goes like this:
1.) Speed through a lv1 intro (10 minutes or less),
2.) Then go to lion’s arch,
3.) Then go to Southsun Cove,
4.) Then dodge every mother kittening monster in the map for about 10-15+ minutes (assuming you don’t get ganked by monsters near the finish line in which case you have to start ALL over.). For those less famliar with the map I’m sure it takes 20 minutes or more,
5.) Then go to the Rich Ori Ore and pray to kittening God that you don’t agro the champion by accident?

The risks taken to actually REACH the Ore completely outweigh the benefits. If you already have a level 80 character you can easily make more gold than that, within the same time frame, farming in Orr.

@scabies – thank you for your feedback

The average mining session consists of literally logging, mining, sending collectibles to the bank, and logging out…it’s less than a minute for ~15 orichalcum ores and whatever orbs you get. It takes less than a minute and equals dozens of gold per hour, a great income rate.

This excludes the time to run there, but this should be done very rarely. I avoid the risk of the champion by mining after I mine with my main, I make sure the area is safe. Nevertheless, it is safe-ish to log in and look…the champion karka has a slight aggro delay and 90% of the times will lay eggs as first action, that’s plenty of time to log out. Finally, if you die, log back in prime time you will be rezzed soon.

The picks cost karma but they also offer higher chance for orbs drops and getting two ores in one hit. Obviously they also don’t cost silver. How valuable karma is: that’s up to you to decide. I wvw a lot and I have so much karma I cannot possibly hope to spend it despite getting temple armor and keeping a legendary-worth of reserve.

In fact, Bloodtide also offers sickles like this that I always use on my main because I gather only the highly profitable herbs and such, they have a better chance for double harvest and increased chance to get you into higher category of drop, i.e. yams from root vegerables or coriander from mature herbs. I presume they have a higher chance for unidentified dye but I cannot prove it as the RNG is too miniscule to pinpoint without a sample too huge for my activities.

There are also logging axes. They look like mining picks and are bugged, won’t log any ancient wood from both ancient and orian saplings. You’ve been warned.

On getting there: the key is to swim west and south and unlock the point on the island. You can safely climb up on a shipwreck. Then the real attempt begins: first get up the cliff between the young karkas and the sole skelk lurker. The karkas patrol and often leave enough distance to go up. Then pass near the traders and the two lionguards. There are a couple of young karkas on the way, and they are obviously very dangerous but if you manage to avoid the barrage they will fall back quickly. Then go to the NE lime wall and proceed along it (not from the west!). There’s one karka that will aggro you. After that, you are in the clear. If at any point you are approaching the steam curtain-barrier-thing you are doing it wrong. It took me two attempts. Again, if you find an 80 to kill those couple of young karkas in the way it’s a walk in the park. On my server at least the area is teeming at prime time, and there’s also the obsolete pre-Information Revolution concept of “friend”.

PS. About Ash Legion Spy Kits: Tried them, it’s safe to mine under them. However, they are soulbound, and while in a newbie zone, probably too expensive in karma for low lvl character, after all you will consume tons of them.

How do I unlock block/deflect/stealth/speed skills on a level 1 character? I though that took skill points which would require at least a few levels to obtain. Aside from that, it could be considered an exploit to have a character that logged on, mined a particular resource, and then logged off. It reminds me of the behaviour of a mining bot that seems to teleport.

Couldn’t you just take those picks the the eternal battleground jumper for the two ori nodes? Probably easier to do.

I think they just fixed it as after the daily reset time (which resets rich nodes and normal ori) I only was allowed two strikes on my lv 6 asura and not all 10 hits. I got 2 ori from the rich vein and not 20 unless its 23 hours independent of daily achievement resets and I get only a normal node and everyone else gets their rich vein?

Do the community a favor and DONT do this. I am the sort who always tries to be helpful in that zone, stopping to resurrect players, waiting around until there are five or six of us and taking down the champ. I will be the bait and run around so that others around can mine.

Here’s what happened one day last week: There were 12 others around and the champ was sitting right on the node. I shouted to the area, let’s take him down. Two others joined in, and ten others simply mined the ore and logged out.

My guard is pretty tough, spec’d for survival. I held the thing off for a long time, long after the other two were down. Eventually however I died. I sat there for like two hours, just testing to see how many in the community would risk a rez. Eventually another guard used a scepter to lure the champ away from me while a guildie of his rez’d me.

My point is really simple, you low level ori farmers don’t contribute anything to the situation. In fact, you detract from the rest of us being able to mine our ori and move on.

I recognize not everyone is going to be a team player here, but low levels don’t even have the option of being a team player. It’s pure selfishness.

My original post was infracted for being a bit harsh, I guess, hence I going to reformulate it in a kinder manner.

While your original assumption that players who would do this “trick” aren’t interested in clearing the room, AKA partaking into the fight might seem legitimate at first BUT it couldn’t be further from the truth.

As you can imagine, it can be rather impractical to take low level characters ( let alone one) all the way in a lvl80+ zone, avoiding/dodging mobs along the path and eventually gravivate all the way up the karka lair and to finally place oneself undetected right under the karka champion’s nose.

Also do not forget that you can only farm nodes once a day ( or 23 hours more precisely, if I am not mistaken), given the hardship of this task and how incredibly TEDIOUS it would be to risk having to do it all over again…just to login without knowing if the champion isn’t actually standing right on top of the node. Which is pretty frequent in most servers, due to “selfish” players like you pointed out whom simply run past, mine and then disappear.

Trust me on this, I completely understand where you are coming from with the “other” players who leave you to fight alone, or drop the boss’s aggro on you…or don’t even bother to help OR SIMPLY REPLY ! I really, really do understand your point.

You’ll find that players who have done this will probably come in, have their main go check it out and probably try to arrange the boss to be taken down…JUST so they may safely use their other characters to farm some extra orichalcum. So who is more of a team player in the end ?

So 23 hours per 1 extra character along with a fairly big risk, just to gain a dozen of orichalcums and maybe a gem or two. That mounts up to 50silver on the TP, IF you were the selling type.
Seems to me like a rather benign farming trick. Let’s say you managed to do it with two characters…then you’d be coming home with just 1 extra gold a day. That in my mind does not constitute an exploit.

This trick is harmless and all it does is generate a comfortable extra 1 g per day for those who give it a go.

To sum my point up, the issue isn’t who farms the node, but how you farm it :p
