As a player I could care less about your titles.

There needs to be a toggle option to turn on/off player titles and it needs to be off by default.

A player should have to deliberately choose to show them, not the other way around.

I think he was implying you were being a bit daft for not being able to understand basic concepts like necessary information vs unnecessary information, actually.

Anyway, other games have had titles and nobody noticed…I think it’s the fact they are both new, and a different color(Why?) that makes them so jarring here….not to mention the fact the mostly novelty info was already provided when you target a person in the current target element….

I kinda like them makes me feel like im back in Guildwars 1, but yes a toggle would help the other players.

Yeah, really want an option to hide this. Hiding names isn’t an option in WvW.

Was not being daft at all about the subject matter I was being as silly as everyone complaining about something so small. Special questions get special answers and I did answer the question it just may not be how people would want it to be. I really hope they keep it just like it currently is now. Why have titles if you can’t show them off.

Clicking on people is ridiculous just to see that info, I’m glad its out in the open now. I don’t know about everyone else but if someone is proud of something that they done in the game I’m happy for them and I also very happy then can show it off now.

And yet again, fan boys will defend even the dumbest anet decision. Please give us the option of turning off titles while keeping names visible.

I think titles should be toggable, but if you do, it should remove the title above your own name as well (would only show up if someone selects you).

I have to agree. I’d like the option to turn them off…though I probably won’t because I like reading the titles.

Turn off player names, press down ALT key to display them on command when you want to see them. I’ve been doing this since the game released.

Titles might as well not be in the game if there was an option to turn them off without turning names off. I’m glad I get to see people’s achievements when I want to (by pressing ALT).

You are being rather obtuse. The reasonable option is a choice. No display and always display are equally ridiculous and irritating. The screen clutter issue is a bigger one than no titles at all, too, as it has impact on play, rather than being a vanity issue, so you cannot say “something so small” and yet insist this is good.

I’ve done the same. I have a LOT of titles to show too, but this is just too gauche.

Have been asking for titles to be openly visible since the launch of the game, so I’m glad it’s finally happened. But I don’t get why it’s been made *mandatory" rather than an option. Why do I get the sinking feeling that now people will just complain about it, and titles will go back to being invisible for everyone?

That said, I can understand why an MMO would want titles viewable all the time — people start to see them, and then people start to want them. And then they play more, and do achievements to earn them. The only real question that remains is why it wasn’t this way since the beginning.

They have been able to show it off since release. If I care enough about you to give a kitten about your title, I’ll target you and see what it is. If you’re some random dude passing by me in LA or an invader I’m trying to kill, I don’t care how many dead bodies you’ve fondled back to life.

Here’s my first counter against: “We shouldn’t have to completely remove/toggle names. We should be able to see names without title.”

→ A title is an extension of a character just as their name is. In fact, it’s part of the name just as a formal “Sir”, “Ma’am” or “Mr.” is . So, when someone like me comes running up as “Siphaed, Apprentice Toymaker” that’s who my character is based on what I’ve done in Tyria. It’s a defined part of the player. In essence, if you don’t want to see a title than you don’t really care about that player and shouldn’t care to see their name either.

If you’re playing on a low-res screen, this may be clutter…but that’s your problem. You shouldn’t be asking for the game to be changed to accommodate you. If you like the game so much, change yourself to accommodate the game (i.e. get a better screen with higher resolution and a bit better graphics card).

P.S. In world vs world, we (my guild) find it much easier to target people based on their title. We say stuff like “target the Slayer” and the only guy with a grey slayer title is easily targeted and hit, instead of “target the Norn” in the big pile of some 3-9 Norns there.

I still find it funny how many people care about this and are upset with my posts. There are way more pressing issues with this game other than making a title toggle. There are things I dislike about the GUI but there is no reason to change them because its just my preference. Its obvious titles mean something to anet. A title is no different than a skin you want or a hue you wish to have its just another layer to the cake. I may be wrong but people may not like this because they have what they consider a list of weak ones to choose from.

One way to still show a title and remove the clutter at the same time is to simply add an icon in its place. This will work just like the map completion icon next to the names. This solution is probably simple to implement considering they have done already with completing the map.

I like the titles, it can describe the player better than their name can. Just uncheck show all player names in options.

i can name 4 maps all 3 bl’s + EB
now those 4 maps all have a max of 300 people . the titles are a reall anoyance in wvw idc about general pve its wvw where the problem of title is at.
now that you might have figured out where there are 100-150 in a map can jou just be quiet in a corner

This is just the front end of the zerg. I’m not sure how many are in this group, but there are a lot more around the corner that were in view shortly after this was taken. My screen is cluttered enough with all the red names, I don’t need white titles adding even more to that.

Turning off titles would make exactly zero difference in cluttering your screen in zerg on your picture. As was already said, option to turn off titles would make titles completly pointless. Seriously, you dont even see real names in wsw so actualy that red text is even more pointless than those titles …

Actually, that red text is the nameplates of every character in range being shown because it is very important to know how many enemies you are facing. I don’t care what their names actually are, but I do care how many of them there are. Without the red nameplates there would be no way of knowing how many players were there beyond the models actually being rendered. Would you really want those nameplates gone, and your PC trying to render an entire 100 player enemy zerg, plus your allied forces?

The white title text takes an already cluttered sceen (cluttered for a good reason, however) and adds up to double (even more with long titles) the clutter on top of that.

I support a toggle, it clutters the screen with useless information and makes the game look so tacky.

I think the real problem is that almost none of the titles are skill based or hard to get, so they aren’t really achievements worth bragging about.

The titles in Guild Wars 2 are clearly separated from names. Honestly. I have no problem with the titles.

Good points. I’d add the fact that titles now have more value which in turn gives more reason to obtain them. It’s pretty obvious stuff. Ultimately, it’s giving players more goals to aim for – more reasons to play the game.

They need to stay as is. People will get over it.

PS I also find the titles a bit jarring and do not much care if anyone knows I’ve explored the whole map or not.

What makes it worse, is with the same patch I now see no players but loads of the names AND titles floating Around. In LA all I see are all the names and no toons, it wasn’t like that before. Of course after awhile the toons load, but I don’t think before you’d see the names floating in air, names showed after character were visible.

While I like seeing another player’s titles, even better that it eases my paranoia that my clones have it as well, there aught to be an option to have them displayed. It’s not like one guy will turn it off and we all won’t see them, and not every player cares about the titles they’ve or others have obtained. Considering I’m running around with the SAB title (a display of my favorite activity in GW2 and sounding very a sura) it is rather long, plus three clones with it as well is just extra clutter.

If someone asks for me to turn it off, I’ve no problem doing so, but an option would be nice for everyone.
