Since the patch Im seeing everyones titles, it also seems I’m seeing more players names from a distance, even though the players aren’t being rendered.

Short of turning off all player names, is there a way to turn off the titles? When there are a lot of people around, all the titles etc limit visibility

Sadly, that doesn’t work as it removes not only the title but the name. The title is useless screen clutter, the name is important.

Pretty sure they don’t want you to be able to turn off titles. Otherwise, why even put them in the game in the first place?

Its screen clutter I can do without. Option to hide titles would be nice.

I think at least having an option would be a good thing.

For me, I think the issue is exaggerated due to the removal of culling too. Not only is EVERY player showing up, but they are also showing up with more text than before. After some consideration, I think it is something I could get used to and perhaps even prefer in time.

As for clutter, imho, we have so much particle effects going on in things like combat that I dont notice the name tags much more than before.

That might be acceptable for pve (I don’t think it is, however), but it is not acceptable at all for wvw. Showing names is a must in wvw.

Yes, titles are way too intrusive now. We need an option to disable titles without having to remove names altogether.

Quite frankly, I don’t see how giving a few minor options to let players customize this aspect of their play experience can be a bad thing.

not necessary to have an option to disable titles but why not make it like in GW1
the titles are shown like now but only when you move your cursor over the player…
so you dont have to click every person and read the tiny title but its still not annoying to see so much text everywhere…

Options are almost always a better solution. (Including suggestion to display on mouse-over.)

This is the kind of thing Arenanet does wrong all the time that I find really frustrating. We’ve had titles since launch, but you could only see them in the target frame and that annoyed people who hoped their titles would be more visible. Fair enough.

So, now the titles display above the avatar’s head, but without adding a new UI option to allow viewers to toggle the titles off if they prefer to have less text clutter on their screen (you know, like the way it’s been since launch).

HOW do things like this not occur to the development team? I know they’re aware that players are not fond of having text all over the screen, and yet in one poorly thought out move they managed to find a way to literally double it. Note how text is never displayed in ANET screenshots and videos.. because the marketing team finds it ugly and distracting and they make sure it’s hidden. Guess what.. the players think so too!

I don’t want to turn off player names because they’re useful and I am willing to put up with the text clutter they add to the UI. But titles are not useful, and I don’t want them cluttering up my screen. Why is there no option to turn them off? You guys have got to start thinking these decisions through.

I agree there should be an option to turn off titles as if I did turn names of completely I could not see my guild mates. And its just redundant reading anyway as I will usually click on a toon if I need more info.

I agree with what everyone has said so far. The titles are just annoying to look at especially in WvW. And what is up with seeing the title of enemy invaders? So Anet doesn’t want us to see their names but titles are OK? I don’t get the logic there; they should implement a quick patch to add an option that disables the visibility of titles.

Render MUST be more simple with that nameplates and titles.
Sometimes It’s just all the screen of that, we don’t see any players, we just see an massive zerg of Red Letters coming at us.

I really like how titles actually show up without clicking on someone now, but I’m not against those that want an option to turn off as long as the rest of us can continue to see them like this.

How to turn off titles?

look at the back of your computer, you will see a cord ( usually black) extending from the computer to the wall.

Remove the cable, no more titles.

I would imagine it has something to do with the new WvW culling sttings… showing guild tabs as well as names so that when players turn their settings right down they will see guild names as well… but unless ANET suddenly make an appearance and answer it … who really knows.

In GW, titles only showed when you hovered over a character or selected them.

The latter already has been in GW2 since forever. I, personally, would like it if the former was an option. I like that folks can display their titles and am in fact quite happy to see them showing in game, but it would be nice to toggle that off at times.

Make it like GW1, Title on mouse over only.

Because not everyone cares if you spent hours upon hours working for your GWAMM title… It’s annoying to see all that clutter.

Would love the option to turn off everyone’s titles. Those who say, “turn off player names then,” aren’t thinking, a lot of us do that already, we just hold alt when we want to see names.

Don’t even go there. I can already choose to make you just an invisible body and a nameplate if it improves my performance in WvW. This is no different. Your right to obscure the game with your clutter ends where my right to see the game clearly begins.

By the way, in an effort to help the community, my guild has turned off all of our titles on all of our characters. (We will no longer be showing our “achievements”.)

I’d like to add the suggestion that if possible, I’d like to keep my friends and guildmates titles visible but toggle off random peoples titles. I love the new title display system, titles were pointless before because you couldn’t show them off. But I think it really only matters to show it off to the people you play the game with.

Must be horrible on 800×600 resolution.

EDIT: I’m on 1920×1080 so I don’t have this issue and like this new feature.

I think you can also hold Alt and it will show all name’s as well

No need to get so mad, it would be a simple solution for arena net to add a hide option for titles. Why should we have to suffer at the cost of their bad mistake.

So people get all kitten y when anyone suggests being able to toggle the blue Dorito commander icon on our minimap but having to look at a title below a person’s name, a title that could have taken far, far longer to earn than 100g is just too much?

now how many people are there on average on the map? 100-150?
so whats more anoying 100-150 titles on the BIG screen or 4-5 dorito’s on your mini map? ye thats right this what the outrage is about

Its crazy that they didn’t realize the static this would cause and include an option to turn it off. They are forcing us to see it because some babies didn’t think enough people were mousing over them and seeing their titles, that they shoved them down our throats.

Because they made it an ugly gray color. Because it’s not in a place that makes it part of the name, it just doesn’t flow right. If it did, you wouldn’t have people screaming about it. When an addition is placed right, it just flows together.
Example: Lunarminx(ROM)> Neon green
Relentless> Ugly gray
That doesn’t seem as one

Example: Relentless> Neon Green
Lunarminx(ROM)> Neon Green
Closer but still too much for some people.

The shorter abbreviation of the guild tag underneath would be the less obtrusive, as long as the font colors still match.

If you are going to add something to the title make sure you keep everything the same color.

but its fluff that i dont want to see all bunched up into one jumbled mess

id like an option to turn titles off without losing the name ive noticed on my server myself included we have turned them off

I really don’t see the point of making fun of or belittling people because they want their title to show. I do think that there should be an option to turn it off though.

when I logged in last night I honestly thought this was a bug.
And the titles are huge- I want to see player names but I really don’t want to see titles- I don’t get why they changed the way it has been since launch.

This just clutters up the landscape- so what if you are a combat medic- so am I, I just don’t want it shoved in my face.
At least give me an option to turn this off.

That or make it the same color as the rest of the name if you include it as your name/title tag. The fact that it is different is why you notice it so much. Someone was clearly sleeping on the job to have let this incomplete concept slip by.

I did this as well and have convinced a few others to do so.

To anyone reading this: Please turn off your titles out of respect to other players. Less clutter is a good thing.

I laughed when I saw the words “screen clutter”. This is hardly a big deal and I am glad they added it. I like them because it lets you get to know a little about someone just in passing. Oh they have this title they must like to WvW, They played GW1, They must like pve content.

For people that really find this “screen clutter” to be a problem press and hold Ctrl + Shift then tap “H” You will never have that bothersome screen clutter again.
