Does anyone have this information anywhere? I was curious what the requirements will be to unlock these new elite specs.

Major questions that come to mind.

Will the previous elite specizalations be required to unlock the newer ones? The same way you must have everything else unlocked before getting current ones

Will they be cheaper to unlock if we have the other one unlocked? Getting the new elite specizalation will be extremely easy between hot hero points plus the new ones that are being added if you don’t have a current elite specizalation while people who currently have a specizalation will need to work harder now to get these.

What about wvw tomes? Will these be the same ones to unlock the new elites or when the expansion comes out will we be getting an entire new set of tomes?

I ask these questions because I like to enjoy new content with the new elite specizalation and like hot didn’t unlock it till I finished the expansion almost. I want to be prepared to try to do the new content from start with a new elite specizalation.

I don’t know about the rest but I believe since HOT is sold separately and not required for the new expac you shouldn’t need to unlock it before the new one.

I was really hoping for some good class specific story quests through which you were able to unlock the elite spec. ANet spent so much time in creating all this great content. It would be very much of a shame should we again need to grind points..

No. They designed their Elite spec system such that you could skip HoT entirely and still make the most of PoF and later expansions. You will still have to max out your non elite spec stuff though.

Probably not, although if you felt like skipping that spec then yeah, it probably would be easier to grab the low-hanging HoT points and spend them on the new spec.

I expect the new specs to unlock just like HoT, they don’t seem to intend to reinvent the wheel on these, although I really wish they would change it, because the one major issue with HoT’s was that you had to unlock everything in order, which I feel is a far inferior player experience than if you could pick and choose traits and abilities at will.

With the HoT method, you couldn’t get ANY GM traits until you had ALL the Master ones, couldn’t get the Utilities the devs chose to be last until you’d gotten the earlier ones. That meant that most of the time spent leveling the class, you were either in your vanilla specs, or playing half a class.

If you could pick things ala carte (with varying costs), then you could prioritize your favorite skills and traits, and have a single “complete” build in only 1/3 of the time or so, and then you could spend the rest of the time expanding your options and filling out the class.

In the meantime, I suppose I could be taking my existing characters around to pick up the spare HPs that I ignored after maxing out my classes.

Well I hope it will be some lore to spec, not just -“Oh I have some points I will just unlock something I do not know anything about, click click, poof! Elite spec unlocked”
One streamer said there are some npcs where you can unlock elite spec… I hope there’s lots of quests to do, and I hope you CAN’T use hero points from Tyria/Maguma/WvW because that would suck (aka instaunlock)

I sincerely hope one can unlock the new specialization through questing instead of just hero point hunting, hated that in Hot so much that i only fully unlocked 2 specializations. I actually prefered grinding Eotm than going to HoT maps.

The new thing about unlocking these Elite Specs was shown/hinted by WP in post stream tho, there was an Mirage NPC that teached us about Mirage lore – hence we get Lore about the New Elite Spez. Makes it abit more flushed out I guess and I assume this is also linked with unlocking them.

Presumably any existing unspent HP’s will be “carried over” right? And HP’s not yet gathered from HoT can still spent as such in the new expac?

There’s anothere thread asking about a respec which I think us quite an interesting option. Still, there’s a lot of speculation niw so I suppose this still needs bottoming out.

Wait till it releases and worry about it then.

If we DO need to grind out HP, there may be a small note in our favor. From the sounds of it, mounts from PoF will be usable in HoT zones. That may make it easier to take a character around and hit the solo HP spots in HoT, if they haven’t already.

Of course, you’ll have to get those masteries first, and the HoT zones are going to be a lot more empty than they are now.

They will definitely cost a lot more points to unlock than the HoT ones,but the HP gain from completing the relevant content will also be increased.
I expect it would take about one to two new maps worth of HPs to unlock a full trait line.

Why shouldn’t you be able to use Hero Points from WvW? The main reason I was able to get many of the elite specs I have from HOT are because they added the proof of heroics that let me get them while playing the game mode I wanted to. I greatly support the lore and love reading it, and I was very excited to see how much of the new specs are tied to it, but I don’t think you should revert the system of WvW tokens letting people unlock it as many WvW players are not big fans of pve and shouldn’t be forced into it just to unlock their new spec in my opinion.

Any update from the devs on how to unlock the new specs? Shouldn’t be too hard to answer…
