How will mount clutter work?
Like the glider clutter works.
I imagine it will be like when White Wings were first introduced. They were everywhere, but as time passed, the fad kind of wore off.
Thus, do expect to see Mounts everywhere at first.
Mounts won’t be out in combat, so if you’re fighting there’s no mount clutter. It’s entirely possible you won’t be able to use mounts in cities
You know, I can’t see the Merchants/Bank NPCs in high-population areas now. It doesn’t bother me, I know what they look like, and the Interact button comes up, regardless.
You’ll be able to see the NPC merchant icon on the map so even if it’s covered up by other players you’ll still be able to locate it. Even if there are mounts standing on top of an NPC you can still go up to it and press the interact key to get what you need.
ANet may give it to you.
It’s a bit late to be worried about clutter.
But to offer a suggestion, a straight up ban on mounts in limited accessed areas such as that granted by the airship pass. Everything is so consolidated, there’s absolutely no reason a mount would be needed.
Tie up your mount at the entrance to the city. No one wants to step in a huge pile of digital mount dung. I almost attached a GIF of a rhino doing its business, but if you want to see it … google it yourself.
Although that could be a new salvage item.

If what I’ve been told is true interacting with NPCs, gathering and pretty much anything else pulls you off your mount. And you definitely can’t fight on a mount because they covered that in the article.
So even if they don’t out-right ban mounts in cities people blocking things like the TP and the bank will have to be doing nothing else – just standing there. I know people do go afk there, but I doubt it will be a case of everyone on the mounts crowded together.
But I’d be very surprised if Anet don’t implement at least small no-mount zones. Even single-player games where you can summon your mount from thin air (like Dragon Age Inquisition) do that.

When I watched some videos about mounts right after the announcement, I saw characters dismounting to combat mobs and their mounts still being there – not disappearing.

You obviously haven’t played, or don’t remember, WoW…

One can hope, but I am willing to bet they haven’t implemented them yet. Look at the situation with summonable bank / TP on top of NPCs / chests which nothing has been done about all these years.
Has anet announced anything about this?
Truth is in zergs it’s already hard to see. But with tons of mounts out everything is just going to be one massive massive blur. Knowing anet as well we will get flashy mounts in the gem store. The game will become extremely unplayable as you will not be able to see.
Even going to a banker or merchant in busy areas you will not be able to see anything.
I am personally a big mount fan but the crazy amount on screen is going to be insane.
Should of just giving us capes that give us special abilities
Zergs currently already have so much clutter going on that it’s hard to tell what’s happening. Adding mounts won’t really change anything about that. Plus I highly doubt any of the can be used while in combat so you’ll only have to worry about the 10,000 skill effects that are cluttering your screen.
As for blocking NPCs I don’t really understand this issue. Maybe if this was wow where I need to actually click the NPC to interact with them it could be an issue but all you have to do is get near them and hit the interact key. Doesn’t matter if you can’t see them because you can still interact with them.

My question is will I be able to bring my new mount home with me? I don’t want my mount to be available in some far off rumored land that that only expansion 2 players will ever see, How can I make them envy my having a mount just as they will wish for gliding when they see me jump at the cliff edge. Mount summoning and dismissal seem to be a partial solution for clutter, still showing off your mount’s paint set or skins needs probably should be done in Lions Arch outside of a stable area where they can be seen. so maybe no mounts inside a building except if in the drive thru lane of a bank or trading post.
