Hows the population doing?
Seems ok in general. My friends list still has tons of people on, my various guilds are nearly empty though.
Pretty sure it was a rhetorical question because the OP is still dissatisfied with the direction/decisions of the game :P
I’ll still answer. Population seems decent enough for me, of course that will be tested in the months to come.
You will get a variety of anecdotal info about this. The fact remains we simply have no idea and some servers are quiet and some are bustling. From my perspective, it is as busy as it ever was (post honeymoon launch period) – the population is just more split between content right now or taking a break until the first of 4 big patches hit on the 21st Jan.
The first quarter of 2014 looks to be a biggie for the game in the way it is being hyped. Only time will tell if it will pan out that way and that it meets the content update needs of many posting on the forums.

I know it was, decided to answer all the same.

Didn’t mean it to be and the general way I feel about the game over rides any opinion I have about how they develop it. I love GW2 and played from first beta. I suppose I’m really just waiting for the next elder dragon and content on that sort of a scale. I just cant stand mini games and festivals popping up all the time pulling players from the real content for a week at a time.
Another reply mentions 4 major updates, I havnt been following as I said earlier but is it dragon type content? lol

We don’t know. Speculation is rife, but all we can do is guess.
They will keep cards close to their chests on this one – you will have to watch the GW2 announcements/releases for further news.
Population is great if you are on
BG
SOR
JQ
I don’t play either, I visit the forums when I’m considering loading it back up. But by the time I’ve left the forums, I’ve usually given up on that idea.
The population is doing fine but it tends to be heavily concentrated in a few areas. you’re not going to find an active world outside of the farmable areas or where there’s some activity taking place (LS, World bosses etc). But there’s always some chit chat going on in the map channel in LA, the Queensdale champ farm is going strong, and I find dungeon groups relatively easily well after 2 am on weekdays.
The population on my server, Tarnished Coast, is high. Too high sometimes as I end up on overflow servers when trying to do stuff.
But I’m confused how someone can say they love this game and not like what’s become the game’s main features. I mean, the OP is waiting for serious content, where as some people, including me, like this content better than the so-called serious content the OP seems to be asking for.
This content is drawing a lot of people, possibly because people like it.
Harder, challenging more serious content has always drawn less people.
My very large friends
Too much fast food?
I took a two-month-long voluntary break from the game around autumn. I took a break mainly because it was hurting my performance in school since I’d become a bit obsessed with getting my daily and laurels and getting the Living Story achievements and rewards done within the deadline. During that time my guild kinda died out for reasons I don’t quite understand. I’m still a member but I’m kinda wandering between other guilds that take me on as a temp for guild missions. However, as a proud original Blackgate launch player and WvW militia member, I can say my world population seems to have risen due to our popularity in WvW so it still feels somewhat crowded if you visit here. Then again, most of the crowd in LA are TP flippers, people standing around like pretty statues, and guildmates ERPing (ok maybe not quite, but close), so you’re not missing much.

You can love a game and lose interest when it go’s in a direction you don’t like quiet easily but oh ye Ps’ Good to see you the most well known GW2 forum poster since launch saying something positive for a change, I lost count about 3 million posts ago of the things you complained about. Keep up the good work lol

Are you sure you’re talking about the right player? I have general respect for Vayne’s posts, but he and I are usually on the opposite side of most topics and he’s the one who typically defends ANet.

A good game needs multiple difficulty levels, especially MMOs in order to have a large playerbase.
GW2 certainly needs more challenging content both for smaller and larger groups.
If you are on TC, JQ, BG, or SoR then the game is doing great.
There are 2-3 mid tier servers where the game is doing ok.
The game is dead and empty on pretty much all the other servers.
So take that however you want. Personally I think the game is doing ok, but will not fare well once new MMO’s launch without something big to hold players.

Just how much of an impact the new titles will have on GW is anyone’s guess, as they are all going to have a monthly sub. They are more in direct competition with WoW as well as with each other.
Personally, I’d see my self playing GW2 and some other game with a monthly sub, instead of playing two games with a monthly sub.
Obviously, the amount of free time is a factor, some people might just want to focus on a single game, especially if that one happens to have a sub fee, just to “get their moneys worth”.
