This is reaaaaaaaaaaalllyyyy bugging me because Im usually the type that can just instantly pick a class, and pick a race with no problems but this is getting under my skin. I like the idea of a human guard but making a big tank that looks awesome in heavy armor like a Norn is pretty cool too.

Any thoughts on this?

I have a human guardian and a norn warrior. I can just tell that the same armor/weapons look much better on the bigger norn.

P.S. – When you create the norn make sure you choose the tallest and the most muscular/wide body.

I have to agree on the Norn. Having a human guardian standing next to a Norn, the Norn just looks like more of what you’d expect a toe-to-toe fighter to be.

Norn look awesome…the female norn are the best looking..:)

Norns are pretty awesome and have great cultural armors, but have so-so racial skills(summons owls and transforms into different animals). Human on the other hand have good cultural armor, great racial skills but has smaller weapons and armors. It all depends whether in the long run if you want a specific cultural armor and if you don’t care maybe choose based on what racial skill you’d want on your Guardian.

Personally I chose Norn for my Guardian because of oversized weapons(weapons are the same size for short and tall characters of the same race) and because of tattoos.

Oh and Norn has tattoos.

Norns win for character visualization and humans win for character navigation. You can pick which is most important to you—looking at your character or actually playing your character.

Since you are going for the tanky look norn would be an obvious choice. My guard is actually a Sylvari

… I have two Norn Guardians AND two Human ones.

I prefer human guardian. The T3 human cultural armor fits more the guardian style, and the humans have a racial healing skill that is a good alternative for guardians.

on the downside: norn are radical environmentalists… “someone’s bothering the wolf spirit!” “ATTACK!”

I would go for Human. Guardian isn’t known for being fast runner. Even tho the speed of all races is same, while rolling Norn, I get visual effect i run slowly then I would with Human.

On the other hand, rolling a Warrior Norn with Warrior’s Sprint seems fairly OK.

Norn is objectively a better option, due to racial elites being a possible asset (Leopard/Bear form for WvW and allowing Arah P3 solo)

That said, the difference is so minor just pick whichever you enjoy playing behind.

The good thing with human is the human heal is actually useful. Which make you more flexible. I can put my trait points else where without getting the trait which reduce signet healing time.

Norn get a super running which is good for bugging out and do good damage for a while(is it fixed). Or running faster for harvesting.

My guard is a female norn, the smallest physical size the sliders would allow.
Not a fan the big and bulky look …

If I had to do it again, I would go human for a guard and norn for a ranger.

It’s a shame Shelter is so OP so renders other heals useless, eh?

Prayer to Dwayna as the heal, and Bear/Leopard form for the running.

human have a skill prayer of dwayna. I’m not saying big deal. I’m saying it is a different skill compare to the other guardian healing. I remember one of the old pve players use prayer of dwayna so he don’t have to spend 10 traits to get signet of resolve to 32 second.

Norn have a charge skill I think if you charge in to a wall it’ll do massive damage so some people like to use the bug. You can also run faster while harvesting. One of the animal skill can make you run very fast for a short period of time.

Beside the traits, the rest is up to you. You can decide on your own. I dont’ think the trait skill is that big a deal though. Just saying it is something people can consider.
