Let’s say you have 0 gold, 0 armor, 0 weapons, 0 materials, and 100% map completion. How would you even start over? You couldn’t harvest cause you don’t have the gold to buy tools. You couldn’t complete hearts that don’t require combat for karma or gold. You couldn’t sell materials for gold since you had none. You literally cannot do anything.

You could still use utility skills to gain participation in combat.

Sell the rewards of your Daily log-in(s)? Sell the rewards from Jumping Puzzle chests? Open the scattered common chests and sell the rewards?

Lots of stuff, I guess.

Weapon bundles could work.

you start a new character. get free weapon & starter armor. do hearts as normal until high enough level for free set of copper tools or enough cash for them. continue as normal. easy.

In Core Tyria, which is where I’m guessing this hypothetical situation occurs, you can’t ‘do hearts’ with 100% map completion.

Ahh, but I get what you are saying… You are supposing in this situation, the account has access to another character slot. Well, yes, there is that.

if you start over with a new character you can. if not in a spare slot, then delete the one you got 100% on.

that’s what I’d do.

either that or pick up random bones/planks off the ground and get participation for events.

Use Heart of the Mists to get to Lion’s Arch, then complete one of the jumping puzzles there.

You can buy harvesting tools and salvage kits with karma. You can sell gathered mats to vendors and later refine gathered ore, cloth and lumber to more valuable ingots, planks and bolts to sell to buy gear. As said above you can get gear from chests that are scattered around the game. There are even environmental weapons lying around that can be used.

Edit: you can also buy gear with karma, all the way up to level 80 exotics armor.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Ask your friendly neighborhood Elementalist to drop some elemental weapons.

Ranger with pets and traps, engies with turrets, necros with minions, etc… could kill low level mobs with pets/minions/summons/utility skills and get gear to use or to salvage and sell as well as get credit for events with the rewards of silvers and karma.

This. Also, I’m pretty sure that being dead broke doesn’t prevent you from coming back to life at a waypoint, though it will consume every penny you have on you.

Imagine that you have no friends and no gear and yet you’ve managed to max out all your characters to L80 and deleted all your gear and yet have no karma or any other currencies — how could you play the game?

ANet Support would be sad that you didn’t try to contact them for help and you’d be sad that you didn’t have any friends to loan you a sword that you could swing.

editor’s note: the author of this response borrowed heavily from the Philosopher Siri’s koan on dividing zero by zero: “see? it doesn’t make any sense”

John Smith: “you should kill monsters, because killing monsters is awesome.”

In the chat window, type “/bonus” to get your free weapons. Opps, scratch that – wrong game. :-)

1. Go into wvw, join a squad, and either afk in a tower or follow the leader to cap stuff and get participation rewards.

2. Go into hotjoin in pvp and join the winning team to get easy pvp dailies.
